The Grizzlies fired head coach Marc Iavaroni on Thursday night, according to an Associated Press report.

Team spokesman Dustin Krugel confirmed Iavaroni’s dismissal, but would not say who would coach the team on Friday night against the Knicks. GM Chris Wallace was traveling to New York.

Iavaroni’s firing was first reported by TNT and The Commercial Appeal.

i wondered how a team so talented kept losing

lowry/ conley
mayo/ jaric
gay/ ross
aurthur/ warrick
gasol/ darko

i'm sorry but with that talent they should be hovering .500 ball they have no real significant injuries and are just too talented

i think with avery johnson declining their offer they should keep pursuing him avery would bring leadership, stability, and defense to that team

not to mention they have a ridiculous core in mayo, gay, gasol, lowry and are going to draft high again this year next season we could be looking at

gasol
griffin
gay
mayo
lowry

which is awesome by the way or possibly

gasol
monroe
gay
mayo
lowry

which is not as awesome but pretty good nonetheless

they need to get a good defensive coach in there and they may be competing for playoff spots as soon as next season

Gay has to be controlled, he is no Kobe, and he should pass the ball when his shots are not going in, and not trying to shoot 20 times.

Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo are chucking way too much (although Gay is much worse), there is no floor general, no good rebounders, bad coach, horrible defensive sets, etc...

Gasol is pretty much the only one that can rebound. And MAyo should be the general...

Young teams like the Griz need a disciplinarian to get them under control.

they need Avery johnson, and one veteran pg and trade away one superstar (gay or mayo) for a post up big man and they will be contenders, its hard to do when your money is funny
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers
