the oscars are the same movies every year

you have to have someone looking into the sky at several points in the movie contemplating his/hers existence

you have to have lots of crying and realization of life around you

and it has to be on a controversial subject like homosexuality, WW2, death sentence, gang violence so on and so on

oh and it also has to be a supreme achievement of human discovery

which is why i never watch the oscars bunch of snobby old men who only nominate movies they feel are artistically breaking new ground or touching topics of controversey i always see these movies that are oh so artistic and "achievements of human emotion"

the best picture should be the movie i most enjoyed not the movie i watch thinking wow what a portrayal of the human psyche and what an artistic portrayal of of a topic that is talked about at nausium in the media

the dark knight may not have had the best performances acting wise or may not have been the most "artistic portrayal of societies inadequacies" or whatever the hell they rate these things on but i guarantee one thing batman was the most enjoyable movie of the year and the numbers prove it and for once it was a blockbuster that actually said something about human nature

not discussing controversies discussed on CNN on a nightly basis but discussing what human beings are and who they are in crisis situation

say what you want and you can tell me oh you just don't get those "oscar" movies or i'm immature but i can guarantee about 99% of oscar buzz is controversy related if its about gays, racism, WW2, middle east you can almost count on a nod

the only movie i thought was remotely interesting was benjamin button but the other movies were snooze fests that you can tell would be voted in.

how the dark knght, gran torino didn't get nods is beyond me its the academy searching for the underdog and supposed art that they forgot that movies are entertainment not paintings

i mean seriously watch when they introduce these movies you hear things like

a movie that was a supreme achievement in emotional discovery and some other nice big words they looked up in a websters to place in the description

not once to you hear

a movie that i enjoyed personally and for 2 hours made me forget about the outside world and its issues and i was able to delve into a new world

its because the rate movies on supposed artistic achievement rather than actual entertainment which is what movies are

there are 2 things you can count on at the oscars

pixar winning the best animated film and some movie noone actually enjoyed till they read the reviews and then thought wow that movie was so artistic winning best picture

the last movie that won that i actually truly enjoyed was Return of the king. they used to nominate good enjoyable movies but now its become a lets not be consensus lets nominate something that breaks supposed boundaries

No love for Benico Del Toro in CHE. :nah:
Even Sean Penn had to give it up for him last night at the SAGs.

The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences,
and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon,
for each day to have a new and different sun."
