Atlanta Hawks restricted free agent Josh Smith has signed a five-year, $58 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday.

-------------------

The Hawks made the decision for him late Friday night by matching the five-year, $58 million offer the Grizzlies made to Smith, a restricted free agent, earlier in the day.

Hawks are matching. It's a VERY reasonable price, as well.

Smith got less than both Deng and Okafor. The irony is that I'd pick him for my team over both any day of the week -- and this is coming from a huge Deng fan. If for some odd reason, Atlanta doesn't match -- Memphis fans get to tune in see the most athletic, high-flying 2-3-4 combo (OJ, Rudy, Josh) in the Association. That's a ridiculous trio.

Yeah the Grizzlies would be an exciting team with Smith and the other youngsters they have but Atlanta will match. Can't afford to lose him.

They matched right away... i dont know why u guys are making this out to be more then it is... they matched like the first day they put up the offer.... SO THERE IS ZERO... i repeat ZERO chance of Josh going to the grizzles...

Memphis> Portland? (talent wise?)

Even if they had landed Smith, probably not.

Portland has a tougher, superior 4/5 tandem that's unmatched by Memphis. They're upgrading their backcourt as well this off-season with the addition of Fernandez and Bayless, who very easily could've gone in the top 5. Yes, top 5. Insane. In terms of potential and talent, I see no team that's on the level Portland is.

Anyway, smart, but pretty simple decision from the Atlanta brass. You can't lose Smith at a very reasonable price like that.
