PHOENIX -- Charles Barkley is taking a leave of absence from the broadcast booth.

The announcement by Turner Sports came Friday, hours after police said the 45-year-old former NBA star was legally drunk when police arrested him Dec. 31 on suspicion of drunken driving in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Test results show Barkley had a blood-alcohol level at .149, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 in Arizona.

Barkley will be off the air for a minimum of several weeks and no return date has been set, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it...

What do you want TNT to do have him come back to the show like nothing happened?!? I can't believe you guys.

Well this was "his" decision, or so it's being known.

The dude will definitely be missed. No doubt he is fun as hell to watch on TNT. Everyone makes mistakes, but DUI's are viewed as rather harshly.

It was his decision as far as I've read...

Hope he returns soons, this sucks...

I don't see why his personal life should mix with his appearance on tv, I'd care less about what he does outside of tv, all this moralism...

It will probably be for a month, he will comeback and apologize and get back to the show.

The whole situation is disappointing, not just him taking a leave of absence. It's disappointing he continues to put himself and his family through stuff like this.

Especially when you run a stop sign. He doesn't have an immediate family as in wife and kids. I think he also has gambling debts.

T-Mobile also dropped him from endorsement deals. No more Wade and Barkley commercials? :(

I don't understand these people. They have so much money, yet don't call a cab, or even a limo to take them home, or wherever they want to go.

I don't get it either. Cab call a friend ask someone at the party to take you home. like someone won't give "Charles Barkley a ride home and maybe get tickets to a game . . .
