I’m guessing that was Doc’s twin brother at the 2008 Finals when the Lakers didn’t have Bynum for the entire Finals and it was his twin brother at this year’s Finals. Boston just won’t shut up already.

Yahoo! Sports: “They still have not beaten our starting five. Our starting five against the Lakers starting five has a ring. Tell him don’t forget that. We will be back strong and Perk (Kendrick Perkins(notes)) will be there next year if there’s a game seven.”

  • What up Doc

Doc’s right. The Lakers would of have lost if Perk was healthy. There wont be a game seven this year, because the Lakers will fall off this season.

    • LakerNationCitizen

Doc MIGHT be right – but in 08, we didn’t have Drew either. PJ didn’t make any excuses then.

And if he’s just motivating his lil’ green minions – what a loser way to motivate them. Why don’t you just tell them they LOST to the greatest team, and they better work HARDER if they wanna win!

Too bad he ain’t no PJ!

We’ll see about that (Lakers falling off this season).

Woo-hoo, can’t wait for the season to start!! THREE-PEAT, i can feel it!!! =D

      • PRLaker

in 08, when we lost, i remember kobe saying, that we were not though enough, that we got outhusseled, and it was true, no one made excuses because they beat us because they were the better team back then. I’m not getting into the what if drew was there or what if ariza was there, injuries are a part of sport and the fact is our finals record since gasol joined the lakers is 2-1, that’s better than 1-1 and that is a fact you fucking losers

    • 242LakerFan

And we WOULD HAVE won in 08 IF Bynum were healthy. And we WOULD HAVE won in ’04 IF Malone were healthy.
And we WOULD HAVE won in 89 IF Magic and Scott were healthy.
And we WOULD HAVE won in 86 if that shot hadn’t gone down.
      And we WOULD HAVE won…
This is fun. I could do this all day!

      • TOUCHING_MYSELF

EXACTLY 242! And hey, why just stop at basketball? Why not bring all our sports teams into this? What about MMA? Chael Sonnin WOULD HAVE beaten Anderson Silva IF he didn’t get choked out, etc…

Funny thing is that everyone kept talkin about what a class act COCK RIVERS was, I guess the reason for that was that he just hadn’t been in the limelight enough to show his TRUE COLORS! He’s green alright… through and through! He’s GREEN with JEALOUSY!

I still see the Celd!cks being the team to come out of the East! But those COCKSTON LEPRECHAUNS will go down to our Lakers in 5 this time!

CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SEASON TO START!

        GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!

        • 242LakerFan

Yeah, I know what you mean. I watched him as a player maximize what was frankly limited talent and make himself a really good player. I thought he was smart and would make a good coach. And up till now, I had a lot of respect for him, but this is plain delusional.

      • ted

        loved the post.

i especially dig people who say

        hell yeah ! good shit

      • ilikebasketball

Dont forget trevor ariza was hurt in ’08 as well.
a very integral part of the 09 championship

    • HATER

Doc quit your crying your team lost plus the Lakers really didnt have Bynum in the finals so WAH WAH!

    • FucktheHaters

What Up Doc is another sad hater who needs to shut the fuck up!

    • R T

there is 0% chance that the celdicks make it to the finals anymore. there are young 5 power houses out there, and once melo leaves the west we have very little compilation (portland, okc, dallas)

    • MLB

Doc’s a sore loser just like you. The celtics haven’t beat the lakers starting five. No Bynum, no Artest. Ge over it!!!

    • NBAmazkingKB24

i personally think having Wallace starting was a better
      choice for the Celtics.
Perkins Who? LOL WTF>.> lost the finals because of
who? lol PERKINS? you have got to be shitting me.

    • DAZE EFX

Wow DOC…way to shit on your whole team..his bench cant be feeling to good about that statement…what a great coach to not realize that without his bench it would have been a clean sweep… Thats the way to get a Coach of the Year award..

      LAKER NATION !! 3 PEAT!!!

  • Terry Davis

He must not realize that our starting 5 includes Andrew Bynum.

    • El Presidente

Must not, you know how those Celtics are though…

  • rick_pnoi

Well i guess Boston never beat Lakers either because we didnt have starting five 3 yrs ago. We only had starting 3 back then.

  • rawnoyz

oh it must hurt so bad, huh doc?? blame your boy ray allen, doc!! perk was barely a factor in the series!! you probably wouldve gotten killed again like game 6 with that ugly mug perk! next time, bring that magic wheelchair to LA!

  • rondo

Doc Rivers! Shut the fuck up.

  • keepon_keepinon18

    Yeah…

and no team in the Playoffs has ever beaten a healthy Laker team. Boo hoo Doc Rivers! What ACTUALLY happened is what ACTUALLY matters. Ten to twenty years from now, what will be remembered is what team won a title in 2008, 2009, and 2010, not what team lost!

The amateur sports fan will usually number in the “most”. This means that looking back, they won’t see a difference between a losing team that lost in 7 games versus a losing team that lost in 4 games…

  • 242LakerFan

Is this what Obama really meant by “bitterly clinging”?

  • http://TheVerveNerve.com Billy Kupchak

    YES!

  • UTCPLA24

He should be ashamed he made that statement because with a 50% Bynum we have not lost a finals match. So what will they do this season, start Shaquille then use that as an excuse? Smh

  • LkrFn4Lf

He’s going to take credit for beating our “starting five” which didn’t even include Bynum for the ENTIRE series, yet the worst player on his starting five is out for one game and all of a sudden it doesn’t count? Pathetic.

  • LakersGal

Doc Rivers after winning 1 ring, had started to think himself in class of great coaches such as Phil Jax, Greg Pop, Pat Riley, but the truth is that he isn’t close. Great coaches never make excuses, especially injury for an excuse, for their loss. Hate to say it, but as we all know, Injuries are part of game and it can happen to anybody on any team. Doc Rivers is just another coach who won one ring because he had the best team that year. Thats it.

  • http://www.jackyang.info Jack Y. Web Designs

lol. This is pathetic. Doc Rivers needs to shut it.

  • DRE84

Hey ya’ll Laffs atu Got ethered by 6’9 that shit was hilarious when he told him he must wanna fuck Kobe or something.
I swear he blog everyday about How much he hates kobe but offline he wears a pink LA jersey customized and on the back it says Mrs.Bryant

  • Doc Who?

People forget Ariza wasn’t really 100% healthy but whatever makes those LOSERS sleep better at night. YOU CAN TELL BY HIS COMMENTS LOSING TO THE LAKERS STILL HURTS!!!!!!!

  • Slammin’ Brown

When people get old. They become senile.

  • Sonny

Oh Doc….. FU…. Please stop crying you freaking little baby.

  • lilkobe24

im sorry marwan, but you seriously need to quote what doc really said. stop putting words in people mouth..

    • 242LakerFan

Sorry, Lil, I’ve taken Marwan to task before for doing that, but this time he actually has it right. In saying what he is quoted as saying on Yahoo! Sports, Doc is denying that we really beat them. He didn’t say the exact words in the headline, but that was the gist. At most, Marwan might want to lose the quotation marks, but he’s not putting words in Doc’s mouth. Doc’s just making excuses like a whiny little child.

      • lilkobe24

quoting something that he didn’t say is putting words in people mouth.

      • 242LakerFan

So you’d feel better if the quotation marks were removed from the headline, which is exactly what I said.

        • lilkobe24

yet you still say he has it right this time. contradiction myfriend…

        • 242LakerFan

Not at all. Technically, the headline shouldn’t be in quotation marks but that is, in effect, what he said in the paragraph below. So this time, as opposed to previous times, which was my original statement, Marwan has not misrepresented what was said.

          • lilkobe24

where in the article did doc say ” the lakers haven’t beat us yet” ? when you quote something, you copy word for word. once again, contradiction.

          • 242LakerFan

Can you understand the words that are coming out of my keyboard? Are you even reading my posts? I said (3 times now) that the headline shouldn’t have been in quotes, but that it was a true summation of what Doc said. I never contradicted myself. Don’t get into an argument over semantics with me. You’re being really anal retentive about this.

          • lilkobe24

LOOL really? you are CONTRADICTING yourself AGAIN. do you not get it? when you quote something, it means that the person said it. it wasn’t even a true summation if you’re quoting something that a person didn’t even say. yeah you said there shouldn’t be quotation marks, but you continue to say he has it right. also, you’re arguing back, so like you said, “You’re being really anal retentive about this.” See what i did there???

  • El Presidente

I’m glad Doc did a thorough job scouting the Lakers. I distinctly remember Bynum not being in the line up all through the playoffs.

  • OaklandLakers

    Trey Kirby layed it down.

“On the other hand, if Boston can petition the league to only count games in which the expected Celtics starting five takes the court, we might be looking at the first undefeated team in NBA history. It might only be for six games, but still.”

Why not mention of 2008 Rivers? The fans invest their money, loyalty, and trust into the franchise and you…; Give them their proper diagnosis Doc.

Then tell them shit happens and the side affects of of dedicating your attention and eyes upward to the rebound of the ball, especially pertaining to 4 & 5′s, are the following…

Landing awkwardly on teammates &/ or opponents legs or feet resulting in a dislocated knee cap. http://tinyurl.com/Bynums1stinjury

200+ Ibs. teammates &/ or opponents falling into your legs knees or legs in general. http://tinyurl.com/Bynums2ndinjury

Simply unfortunate landings in which nothing but 360 degrees of air surround the knee of one of the more consistent future Hall of Famers.
    http://tinyurl.com/Garnettskneeinjury

And then of course you got the scenario where 2/3 most prototypical heavy weight centers go at it aggressively like they should and it results in a sprained knee with sprained MCL and PCL ligaments.
    http://tinyurl.com/Perkinskneeinjury

I’m mean come on Doc if we’re talking history here than lets speak on 08 where we didn’t have our starting 3 & 5. Radmonivich & Walton on Perice. I’ve seen Finals MVP’s won in better fashions.

Shit, you can throw 09 out the door if you please.

You couldn’t get away from C’s fans talkin about the Bynum – Perkins match-up building up during the playoffs on Redsarmy. Neither could you get away from a dip shit LA fan talkin a gang of shit. Some of the best material came from many of the frequent readers regarding the Center match-up and as we saw, it didn’t bode well for them considering in their eyes; they had a comfortable advantage.

The stats were somewhat similar with the advantage going to Drew, yet this on a bunk knee since OKC at about. 60%- 70% and now this talk Rivers?

I like Doc to much for him to be talkin like this. And now the front offices response to Perkins being out is Shaq & Jermaine?

  • OaklandLakers

What the hell is wrong with the log in. Whats up with this Yardbarker stuff. How do I get my avatar back?

  • Brown Hater

This is almost to stupid to comment on. Every year teams have injuries, even this year Bynum wasn’t 100 % but I guess it doesn’t count untl it happens to the Celtics. In 08 I didn’t hear him saying it was a good win but it to bad Bynum & Ariza weren’t fully healthy. Your whole team was there except for 1 game not a whole series like in the Lakers case so if you wanna start talking about titles that don’t count start with the ONE title that you have in 08.

  • http://thelakersnation GivemeKobeorgivemeDeath

Doc just need 2 shut his bean hole. I think we are going 2 have another Lakers/Celtics finals so we gonna see who’s the better team even tho its clear when bynums healthy we are a whole different animal. This is a classless act 2 try and get under our skin. But I love it,Kobe love it,and the whole laker nation should love it. They are fueling kobe’s fire u would think they would know better by now but oh well all I can say is thanks Doc!

  • http://www.vidaguerrasbutt.com/vida-guerra-playboy-picture-a_17.html#pic daboss1849

Doc’s a little bitch. When I see him at the game this year I will Tea bag the little bitch that he is.

  • LakerFanIam

    Seriously Doc….?
    You’re making yourself look stupid…..

    • ted

i used to have respect for doc as a player, but as a coach he is really getting goofy in the old bean :( sad

and, btw, paul pierce needs a walker so he doesn’t fall on his face on every ‘drive’ (aka OFFENSIVE FOUL) to the basket

the refs kept it close in the 2010 finals, but the lakers’ talent, desire, & effort won out — sweet after 2008

      -ted

  • Robert.

Hm, let’s look at some statistics:
    .
Lakers starting 5 played the Celtics starting 5 in only 6 games in the Finals (this year, and I’m including 2008). We split those games (this year, we won 3, they won 3), so technically we tied with the Celtics if we consider ‘game per game’. So in that sense, we’re tied.
    .
So let’s add in regular season games. We lost both games in 2007-2008 to Celtics, but had Bynum in the first, and Pau in the 2nd, and so technically our starting 5 did NOT play against their starting 5 that year.
    .
And of course, our starting 5 did not play against their starting 5 in the Finals.
    .
Then, 2008-2009, we beat them both times, but I think Drew was out for one of those games, so technically our starting 5 beat their starting 5 only once that year. So we’re one game up with that.
    .
Now in 2009-2010, we split. I think one of our starters was out in the game we lost, right? So, our starting 5 beat their starting 5 once in regular season.
    .
So we’re a total of ’2 games’ up with that.
    .
So, adding in all games in which our starting 5 played their starting 5, we’re up 2 games.
    .
Now, let’s look at THIS YEAR’s Finals. In this series, we have to take into account the fact that our starting 5 played MANY MINUTES most of the playoffs, remember? Our bench was hardly used throughout the entire playoffs AND the Finals.
    .
So technically, our STARTING 5 beat their ENTIRE team. And I believe they had a full roster.
    .
In summary, our STARTING 5 beat their ENTIRE 15. Pretty good, eh?
    .
I wonder what will happen when our bench kicks in this upcoming year …….

    • ted

cannot wait to see the fresh new lakers crew in 2010-11
      :)
THEO!!!! (ok so he’s old; but new to us)

    • PRLaker

dude you are so right robert, we played the entire playoffs without a bench our starting 5 beat 4 teams to win the title, good fucking point

  • Wilt

If their starting five is so good how come they didnt beat us in 5 or 6 games? Face it doc and all other celtic fans your starting five lost a series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • willmo

Doc did a hell of a job getting those old a-holes to the finals but he is just trying to ignore the truth… One can argue that if Bynum was healthy maybe this series would not have gone 7 games especially with his play against Perkins in the regular season when he destroyed both he and KG. Doc face the truth and move on, you never say Phil beating this drum in ’08. Go Lakers and go team USA with Lamar kicking ass and Rondo being a little bitch and punking out before the final cut.

  • Murray

Yeah Doc that’s if you and your so called “starting five” even make it to the championship next year.

  • Murray

AND ANOTHER THING IT WASN’T THE STARTING FIVE THAT WON GAMES FOR THEM IF IT WASN’T FOR RONDO OR PERKINS THEY PROBABLY WOULDN’T EVEN MADE IT TO THE FINALS!!! COME ON DOC LET’S BE REAL HERE!!

  • pat oslon

Doc & the entire Boston bandwagon must be smoking METH!

I MEAN THE LAKERS PLAYED WITH AN INJURED ARIZA AND NO BYNUM COMMON ARE YOU SERIOUS
HEY DOC UR STARTIN FIVE HASNT BEAT OUR STARTIN 5 HEALTHY

  • lakers2000

This is hilarious!!!! Keep it up, Doc. I will enjoy watching you and the Heat kill each other and then the Lakers will destroy the victor.

  • Robert.

The Celtics are older and heavier this year (avg. age & weight are probably highest in NBA).
    .
The Lakers are meaner and leaner (& healthier! Kobe & Pau are resting up this summer. Drew is getting healed up too).
    .
The Celtics will be huffing and puffing by the time playoffs roll around. And chances are, the Heat will run them ragged.
    .
Meantime, the Lakers will have less trouble with the West, and so they’ll be even more rested/ ready for the playoffs.

  • BASEK23

IF……… THAT IS ALL I HEAR IF, IF, IF. A WIN IS A WIN NO MATTER WHAT THATS!!! EXCUSES ARE FOR BITCHES!!!!!

  • laker warrior

Would have could have. Grandma had balls she would be grandpa.
What do you stand to gain bye this bullhshit talk Doc.
The fucking guy was hurt and live with it . Move on worry about beating Miami .

  • 242LakerFan

You know, I don’t recall the NY Knicks whining about Willis Reed’s injury in 1970.

    • PRLaker

if kennedy was’nt shoot, then he would had finished his presidency but that did’nt happen, fucking celtics

  • Robert.

Injuries are actually ‘part’ of basketball. Everything else is hypothetical. Athletes in pro sports push their athleticism to the limit (either by the nature of the sport, 82 games in basketball, 162 in baseball, roughness in football, etc.).
    .
The human body can take only so much punishment, and due to the nature of sport, it can break down in a number of ways.
    .
So, when someone gets injured, it is ‘auto integrated’ into the nature of the game. E.g., Chris Paul played lights out for so long – and the Hornets were rolling, then he got injured, and their percentage went down. Part of the game. Same for DWade who also injured himself almost out of a season, because he carried the team on his back.
    .
The Celtics are a ‘heavy’ team. I’m surprised they even made it to the finals last year without more serious injuries. They are pounding 200+lb down the court 82 times a year. It’s just a matter of time before someone breaks down. Perk happened to break down in the Finals, but it wasn’t just a freak injury, it was a ‘buildup’ of many months (albeit, years) of playing hard (they all played REAL hard in 2008, remember?).
    .
    But ..
    .
part of the game. Kobe was injured w/ankle and out for a month or two several years ago. part of the game.
    .
If all athletes could play at top level without ever getting injured, then it would be a whole different game. There would be high flying – jumping – dashing, landing on the court, etc. etc. Heck, if everyone on earth could get around without ever getting injured or sick, the world would be totally different. But it ain’t.
    .
It’s part of the game. I actually did respect Doc Rivers until that statement. You can’t segregate out parts of the team in a team sport. It’s all or nothing. Their TEAM lost this year. Our team lost in 2008, and we didn’t whine about the absence of Bynum AND Ariza. (although, I didn’t like how the games were officiated, but that’s another story).
    .
Anyway, just repeating what everyone else already knows. It won’t make a scrap of difference what Doc says, come game time.

    • coltGYM

      Very good comment rob.

  • Alex

    ’08 Bynum?

  • Lakers=beast

…..and Drew wasn’t healthy through this series so we had 4 starting players! 4 against 5? doesn’t sound so fair to me and just goes to show, the Celdicks can’t beat a 4 on 4 team match

  • http://TheLakerNation DOC IS A SORE LOSER

We did not have Bynum or Ariza healthy in 08 and we had Bynum on one leg this year. This guy is just pathetic, how come he cant give credit where its due. A bunch of sore losers in shitville!

  • drive-for-17th

HES A FUKKIN` IDIOT. THEIR STARTING LINEUP HAS NEVER BEATEN OUR STARTING LINEUP, SOO HELL WIT HIM. Game seven was just the closer to your sad Smeltics demise. And I’f anything else, your five hasn’t beat our healthy starting five. When Bynums health is back, we’ll see who’s the best in the league! Ohhh that’s if you’re guys make it back to the Finals! Bum!

In English we capitalize proper nouns and words that begin sentences. “break down” is two separate words and there is no such word as “sadely”.

  • Showtime4eva

Hows it taste DOC??? sure sucked in ’08 when we didnt have bynum for the entire series, plus a hobbled ariza who hadnt seen much time on the court all season. and i could be wrong, but im pretty sure we had rodmonivich starting at the 3 and odom at the 4. The fact that we even made it to the finals in pau’s first few months with the team is a testament to this organization and P.J.’s greatness, and just how well we meshed as a unit in such a short period of time, albiet not enough to take the crown. So remember doc, you lost the finals in ’10, only 1 GAME without perkins in the starting line up, and with a 13 point lead with a quarter and a half to go in game 7… tell yourself whatever chases away the demons at night, but all the holes in your arguement arent holding much water.
You lost! That’s all. Go lakers!!!

Get his ugly leprechauns ready to play and win the east.

  • Anna

Doc – your team was ahead by 13 points. You were, in fact, leading for 2-1/2 quarters. Don’t blame your flameout in the last 1-1/2 quarters of Game 7 in the NBA finals to the fact that you were missing your starting center. You seemed to be doing fine without him. It’s not Kendrick Perkins’ fault you stopped playing defense in the most crucial time. That’s YOUR fault.

  • Faker-Nation

lakers starting 5< celtics starting 5
