Who? What? Where? When?

L.A. Times: The Lakers might be closer to signing DJ Mbenga, a 7-footer who was cut last week by Golden State. Mbenga, who attended Thursday’s game, averaged 1.2 points and 1.9 rebounds for the Warriors in 16 games.

For further enjoyment out of the possible signing, here is Mbenga saying “Taco’s”…

what? we don’t need anymore garbage, the ONLY solution is Webber

Hate it to break it to you, but all the Lakers can offer Webber is the veterans minimum (NBA cap rules), so its up to Webber if he wants to accept that or not.

  • double

Somebody get Mr. Miyagi to fix Bynum. Amazing how different the team is w/o him. Any news on potential Kwame trades?

  • acntopgun

I’d rather have D.J mbenga , and webber. Trade kwame for anything.

  • http://letsgolakers.com Mr.81

Phil doesn’t want Webber…Mbenga would bring some toughness I hope…don’t get be wrong, I’d like Webber though.

Looks like this is a lock…if he’s in LA and at the game, surely he’s gunna be signed today or something.

  • Rpoc

I’ll lmao if this guy manages to be more useful than Kwame.

Oh and check this gem out: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/arash_markazi/01/18/jackson.lakers/1.html

“That’s difficult because Kwame is a peculiar case,” Abdul-Jabbar says. “I would leave that to Phil to explain how peculiar Kwame is. He’s not a bad guy; it’s just very hard to get through to him and I haven’t done it yet.”

So what’s so peculiar about Brown?

“I call him a knucklehead once in a while,” Jackson says. “Kwame has to be led to water and then forced to drink. [Assistant coach] Brian [Shaw] and I have always said there are some peculiarities about his game. For example, when he drives left, Kwame will finish right-handed, but he’ll always pause or fake and wait for the defensive player to catch up to him. We can’t get it through his head to just take that move because you’re going to beat the guy anyway. You might get fouled, but Kwame does not enjoy foul situations and making a team pay because his free throw percentage is below 50 percent.”

    -

To put it bluntly, Kwame is retarded in basketball. They tried everything and his brain can’t grasp it.

  • gugy

Anybody is better than Kwame at this point.
    Bring Mbenga, webber, etc.

  • Ignard

I can’t stop laughing. You guys are a riot.

Hey, are you sure those aren’t Kwame’s numbers?

  • Rpoc

When I watch this I see a basketball player

    ……

is what I like to say but I see a train wreck with a Kwame/Mbenga rotation under Phil (who’s fraking still starting Luke with a bad ankle instead of Ariza)

He and Farmar can be buddies. They got the ears connection. Too bad he doesn’t have game like Farmar.

Let’s just hope and pray this guy can

    1) Catch
    2) Make a dunk
    3) Make a layup
    4) Does not duck like Curry/Kwame when someone comes over to dunk on them

That’s an upgrade in itself. Daco to the rescue!!! Pffthahaha!

  • kingkb24

    who??

  • Jen

best. clip. ever. We gotta sign this guy!

  • Phant0M

    ears connection lmfao

  • Lakerzzz

DJ Mbenga would be a good fit because Jackson said that we are not worried about our offense, it’s our defense and Mbenga can actually put a body on someone and get a few blocks he had four against us, when we played the warriors. Also we do not need Webber’s offense, a lot of people are thinking of the past Webber, but remember he faded at the end of last year and did not show up in the playoffs. But if he somehow was the Chris Webber of the past for just two months then that would change things, but no one knows, but everyone does know that anyone is better than KWAME BROWN. We do need someone soon though, and this weekend there will be another player in the Lakers Locker Room

Whenever we get free tacos, Taco Bell should play that clip on the jumbotron like 300 times in a row. It will be funny, then annoying, then funny again, then really annoying….then hilarious…then infuriating. People will be so busy getting medical attention for self-inflicted stab wounds to the ear, that they will totally forget about their free tacos.

  • Flush Odumb

The word from Joe McDonnell on KLAC is that DJ will be signed by the Lakers tomorrow night or the next day.

Well I hope Mitch knows what he’s doing. Hopefully DJ can at least catch the ball which would be an improvement.

  • Nabil

    That’s great news!

    DACO!

  • Tim

how can you call Lamar trash? hes one of the reasons why we’re winning, Fisher, Kobe, Lamar, and Bynum are the key reasons why we WERE winning

  • MILO

What about a trade for Kurt Thomas would he be of help to the Lakers what about Mihm and Vlady and a pick for him anything to get rid of Vladys contract send him back to where he was when he was still a decent player…

  • http://getgarnett Che

    oh shut up

  • Tim

yeah i want kurt thomas also

  • drake hunter

Trade Kwame, Luke, Sasha, Crittenton, Cash, and 1st round pick to Indy for Jo and Kareem Rush! They get two expiring contracts, pg of the future, playmaker, and cash.

  • Tim

horrible trade drake, Sasha is good, Crittenton is going to be REAL good, cash is good and 1st rounders are good

  • MILO

Kurt has a jumper as well so this will open up the floor for our guards that is the one thing the Lakers are lacking Turriaf is not enough! this really would have helped against Phony. There is no need to trade for JO he will opt out and come to the Lakers next season and he better take a pay cut if he doesn’t want to be another K-Malone Tim Duncan took one so i dont see why he cant, RIGHT???

  • DCLAKER

GO AFTER SAMUEL DALEMBERT,FORGET DJ!FO IS CRAZY FOR NOT LOOKING AT DALEMBERT.HE’S A LOT LIKE CAMBY BUT BETTER ATHLETICALLY.PLAYED VERY WELL VS CELTICS AND HAD 20 REBOUNDS,I THINK AGAINST HOUSTON(ALONG WITH 20 POINTS).WHAT THIS KID AVERAGES IN A GAME IT TAKE kWAME A LIFETIME TO PUT UP.I STILL SAY MITCH DID ‘OK’ BY NOT TRADING(EXCEPT M.EVANS AND AMEN HE GOT RID B.COOK).iF YOU CAN’T GET SAMMY GO AFTER JO,ARTEST,DAMN MAGGETTE,THEY’LL GET WEBBER AUTOMATICALLY,SOMEONE THAT FITS THE SYSTEM NOT PIPEDREAM PLAYER,HE WAS CUT BY DALLAS(THAT’S NOT SAYING MUCH ABOUT THE GUY IF HE’S CUT BY THEM).

  • MILO

[Comment ID #22898 Will Be Quoted Here]

yup yup, but knowing Mitch it’s as if he feels sorry for guy’s whom other teams dont want.Mihm would be a great example of that Phony turned him down and there goes Mitch to save the day. That can also be said about Coby Karl we have no use for him yet they signed him therefor taking up a spot that could have been used to sign someone who can actually play when it counts SO YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHAT MITCH IS PLOTING TO DO…

  • Rpoc

Mihm has a no trade clause because the Lakers signed him to a 1 year contract with bird rights.

Seattle didn’t want to pay Vlad so they traded him for Wilcox. We gave Vlad the maximum MLE and years to outbid the Clippers (genius). You think Seattle wants his contract now when they’re rebuilding? Hell no. We are stuck with Vlad. Just hope he gets healthy.

Dalembert issue is the contract. His contract is still on in the season of 2010/11. They have no guarantee Kobe will stay so they have to keep that year clear where there will be a crop of free agents.

Plus Jerry Buss doesn’t have the money like the owner in NY, Portland, or Dallas where he doesn’t give an ish about the luxury tax. I don’t see him wanting to pay 10-12 million for 3 seasons for a backup 5 to Bynum (who’s going to get a big extension). Dalembert is definitely not a 4.

Webber the Queen doesn’t want to come here and the Lakers don’t trust his defense or health so forget him.

Face it guys for two months unless someone’s “generous” like Orlando giving us Ariza, it’s CAKE + DACO!!!

  • bc18

the lakers should mos def trade kwame brown but only for a center with solid defense and decent post up game (could finish with both hands)…try to trade mihm also..he just gets injured season after season, picks up too many easy fouls, and he only has one move (right hand jumphook, fading away)…and crittenton because all he does is come into the game and turn it over 3 times…hes slow, his arms are too small, he doesnt have an outside shot, and he has no heart during the game. he just has a blank look on his face the whole time, whether its a close game or a blowout…also hes a bad decision maker….he tries too much to do fancy stuff and it hardly ever works for him because opponents really havent seen him do anything else…an example would be when he goes for the layup hell put it around his back and try a reverse layup…and then get blocked hahaha……oh and one more thing…kwame has some ok moves but he cant finish…he has the worst hands in the nba…and no work ethic…he deserved all the boos and the coaching staff should help him work out his hands so he could at least catch 1/2 of the passes to him lol…and he needs to be pushed around while practicing hes finishes so he could learn to finish if someone just flicks him lol

horrible trade drake, Sasha is good, Crittenton is going to be REAL good, cash is good and 1st rounders are good

No it isn’t because Kareem Rush knows the triangle and him replacing Vujacic evens that part out. Kwame and Luke are trash and I believe we can sacrifice Crittenton in this trade and still survive. To be able to get JO for Kwame, Luke and Crittentons potential, I say thats a steal!

  • DingleBerry

[Comment ID #22905 Will Be Quoted Here]

Hell ya that trade would save us this year

  • drake hunter

Thanks Dingleberry, glad to see at least someone sees eye to eye with me on this website. Here is the actual trade below, had to make an adjustment in adding Mihm to make salaries work and he’s also trash so it doesn’t matter anyways.

    <a href=”http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=981~3197~549~2421~2027~615~1725&teams=11~11~11~11~11~13~13&te=&cash

The whole point of this trade is Crittentons potential to becoming the star pg for Indiana because with all the other garbage were giving up in this trade, there needs to be at least some worth for Indiana to do it so sacrificing Crittenton in this case is a must. Indy also gets three expiring contracts totaling 13 mill for this offseason and a healthy Luke can be a playmaker for an uptempo offense in Indy. Since were gonna sign DJ Mbenga, we can give up two 7 footers who we really don’t want playing on our team anyways. JO is injured again for 2 weeks and I’m sure Indy is gonna get desperate near trade deadline to get rid of him instead of being stuck paying some guy 19 mill who never plays and may not walk away after this season with that much money left on the table. My guess is JO isn’t motivated in Indy and he prolly could play through his injury if felt it was worth it so a change of scenery to LA will actually be good for him and us. Our line-up would be

    PG – Fisher
    SG – Kobe
    SF – Odom
    PF – JO
    C – Bynum

    PG – Farmar
    SG – Kareem Rush
    SF – Ariza
    PF – Radmanovic / Turiaf
    C – Mbenga / Turiaf

Coby Karl, some veterans to fill out the roster, and don’t forget we still have Gasol’s Bro in Europe and the asian Magic Johnson in China who can come over here. Kupchak would win GM of the year with this transaction including Ariza cause we will definately win it all!

  • http://www.friendster.com lakerfan101
  • drake hunter

I think we need to keep Radman because he adds dept and versatility to our bench being that he can play both forward positions and when healthy is one of the best shooters we have. Luke on the other hand is fundamentally sound but with Lamar moving back to SF with this trade Luke becomes expendable because we have Ariza and he’s better.

This trade won’t happen for a few reasons. The FO and coach PJ are very high on Crittenton and will not trade him. Second, they are not going to be taking in another 20 million dollar contract unless it was a super star and JO is not a Super star… his star is fading, but he would be a good fit with the lakers, but not for 20 million. If the lakers did this trade the lakers would have in two years three guys totaling around 60 million(kobe, JO, Bynum). It is not happening. Finally, JO has not fully recovered from his injury and no way do you want to invest in a player for that much who is still recovering from an injury.

I would make this trade because JO can just opt out at the end of the season and resign with us for less if we need him to! JO may be a fading star but he’s also only 28 years old and teaming him with Kobe will ressurrect his career I’m sure of it. Mr. Buss advised me that building a championship is his only goal and he’ll spend whatever he has to in order to build a contender. I also think very highly of Crittenton but you know what, I’m really high on Farmar also and he’s too much a part of our success this year and I can’t let him go. I know Kwame is terrible and I’m trying my best to make something happen before the trade deadline. Please be patient, believe me it’s tearing me apart seeing him out there on the court. I understand Phil’s point by keeping him out on the floor even when he’s playing so terribly. I now realize that Kwame cannot accomplish what we’re looking for in a basketball player and by displaying his faults on the court I have a more sense of urgency than ever to make a deal happen.
