L.A. Times: Tex Winter paused to gather his thoughts before offering his analysis of how the Lakers are playing.

Winter, the Lakers’ basketball consultant, had come to watch them play the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night, to see for himself in what direction they were headed.

The Lakers came in with the best record in the NBA, 50-12, but Winter still saw troubling signs. And that was before the Trail Blazers routed them, 111-94.

“I feel like our record is a whole lot better than how we’ve played,” Winter, who lives in Portland with his wife, Nancy, said before the game. “I don’t think we’re playing nearly as good as our record indicates.”

The Lakers won their first seven games and 14 of their first 15. They have yet to lose more than two consecutive games. But they are in the midst of playing 10 of 13 games on the road, including at Houston on Wednesday and San Antonio on Thursday.

You know what I agree with him.

I think the West is getting much tougher recently. Utah, Houston, New Orleans, Portland and Denver are all playing really well lately. My friend summed it up best:

There may have not been that much of a disparity between East and West earlier in the season, but there definitely is now. Getting a 1st round matchup against a team like Chicago, Milwaukee, New Jersey or Charlotte, and a 2nd round matchup against Atlanta, Miami or Detroit is a complete joke.

I am still hurt by last night’s loss. To overcome the grief, I decided to write a poem. Just wanted to share it with The Lakers Nation..

Oh My Lakers – By LakerLoverCelticsHater

    Oh My Lakers,

    If Dodgers Are The Prince,

You Are “THE KING” Of LA Nation…

    Oh My Lakers,

    Stronger Than Ever,

From George Mikan To Kobe “Jelly Bean” Bryant…

    Oh My Lakers,

You Gave Us The Joy With 3-Peat,

But How Can We Forget When You Didn’t Make The Post-Season…

    Oh My Lakers,

    Loyal Celebrities At The Games,

From Leo DiCaprio To Jack Nicholson…

    Oh My Lakers,

    Some Fans Might Dislike You,

But How Can They Ignore Your Presence…

    Oh My Lakers,

We Have Purple & Gold In Our Vein,

But Can’t Stand The Green Playing At The Garden…

    Oh My Lakers,

The Loss Against The Blazers Was Brutal,

But I Know You Will Step It Up Against Houston…

    Oh My Lakers,

    What The Fans Would Do,

    Without “THE LAKERS NATION…”

  • kobe-wankenobi

    forget homecourt

He has a good reason to be concerned. Lakers lost the hunger and cohesiveness shown in Feb.
