Despite Kobe’s six points, Gasol, Fisher fuel Lakers past Nets

This is the start of something VERY SPECIAL. Kobe was in complete euphoria tonight…

ESPN: Pau Gasol was a winner in his Lakers debut, without even much help from Kobe Bryant.

Gasol had 24 points and 12 rebounds, and the Lakers beat the New Jersey Nets 105-90 on Tuesday night despite a season-low six points from Bryant, his first single-digit effort in more than a year.

Derek Fisher matched a season high with 28 points to lead the Lakers, who improved to 3-1 on their nine-game road trip. Bryant shot 3-of-13 from the floor but had eight assists in his lowest-scoring effort since an eight-point game against Denver on Jan. 5, 2007.

He seemed to work well with Gasol, who was 10-of-15 and showed he may help the Lakers get by just fine until Andrew Bynum returns from his knee injury.

Vince Carter scored 27 points for the Nets, who trailed by only three points midway through the fourth quarter before Gasol keyed the decisive surge.

kobe not much help tonight? he was demanding the double team all night so fish and gasol had very easy looks. also what about that block on kidd? that was tight……

  • gugy

Gasol, the Lakers nation welcome you.

I watched this game live and Kobe did not play good offense, but his defense on carter in the 2nd half was the difference. Lamar seemed much more comfortable creating for people and just running the floor. Fisher was on target and surprisingly Radmanovic was the 2nd best player for me tonight. He took good shots, played good defense and made the right decisions. Favorite play of the game was Gasol’s no look, over the head pass to fisher.Oh and Kobe got MVP chants before exiting the game.

IF you would have told me the lakers win and kobe scores 6 I would say your crazy but after the trade this actually makes sense. Kobe had a off night. Just imagine Bynum and Kobe has a good night. WOW. Like i have said before i thought we where a good team before the trade but after the trade if gasol can produce like that we are a great team and a team to be feared. You have the best player in the world with a supporting cast of decent players and one more outstanding post player Watch out.

Great game by all the lakers!!! I’d like to see Luke Walton become a little quicker. I also hope Kobe’s hand is not any worse.
PAU! PAU! The fact that we now have a powerforward that would dare to attempt 15 shots is awesome! He can shoot from 15feets, he can post up, he can put it on tha floor, he can pass. All we need is for Bynum to just sit his behind in next to the basket. And we should also become the highest rebounding team in tha league.
I am willing to excuse this team this season if we don’t win a championship (though I think there’s no reason why we shouldn’t, I can make one up). But anything short of a championship next season is a failure!!!

    GO LAKERS!!!!

getgasol- Your a freaking genius! When did you join again? Seems you’ve been calling it for a LONG time.

And in the “when it rains it poors” category: severe storms and TORNADOES (in FEBRUARY??!?!?!) keep most Memphis fans from seeing the wonderful debut of Kwame (4 points and 3 turnovers). I think the “small hands” Burger King ad was inspired by Kwaame).

    This is freaking awesome.

I already had GetGasol.com up way back in June, before the season even started, before Garnett was even a Celtic. I was way ahead of my time :)

  • MILO

I was a little skeptical about Gasol making the Lakers contenders but now that i’ve seen them play together i can already see Kobe and Gasol keeping the Lakers in the race while Bynum gets back and when he does look out muthafukers.Phony is already in panic mode trying to get Shaq and i know that Boston San Antonio and Cleveland are also thinking of ways to counter the Lakers latest GREAT move.Timmy Garnet and Amaree eat you’re fu-cken hearts out.AND PHONY EVEN IF YOU GET SHAQ GASOL WILL OWN AMAREE AND THE LAKERS PRETY MUCH OWN YOU AS A TEAM AS WELL HA HA HA THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT SEASON IM GOING CRAZY AS WE SPEAK OR IN THIS CASE TYPE!!!

I cannot either. I didn’t even care so much about the score or that Kobe had only 6. The fact they had a big man who was doing finger rolls, doing smooth post moves, behind the head passes, and making jump shots was just a pleasure. :) :) :)

  • lakerz

WOW!!! we won with kobe only scoring 6pts!
    gasol you rule!!!
    kobe get well soon

  • ZenMaster23

I’m just excited that there is another game tomorrow night so I can watch Pau again :-)

  • kilacrosova

I’m thoroughly impressed with Gasol’s performance. I think the best part of the night was that kobe had 6 points! WOW! The other teams in the NBA will just full themseleves if the really think they got a chance against the Lakers. And when Bynum gets back, there is no way any team will have enough players to guard all of our weapons. We have to come up with a new nickname for these guys!

  • LakerPower

i know pau did a great job tonight and with kobe only having 6pts … Obviously gasol had a lot to do with it! Were gonna be sick with him!!!

But!! Do you guys not remember some other bad@ss drop 28pts? Thats right dfish did amazing tonight and Dont overlook that. Don’t get me wrong gasol couldn’t make me any happier but dfish is a big part of this win and deserves a lot of credit

Lamar really wants to be in there, but sorry Odom, “K-BOG” and “G-BOK” just don’t roll off the tongue like “KGB”, and “Fantastic Four” is totally gay.

  • aibarra03

Is it just me, or is it refreshing to see our big (besides Bynum) catch a pass and finish around the basket? I cant wait till the Lakers are completely healthy! It’s on like Donkey Kong!
