Kobe shows how strong his friendship with Derek is. Thanks Kobe!

ESPN: Bryant has seen all that for the past 14 years. Seen it and nodded his head in assent.

There is no real way to value that, except to never let it get away once you’ve found it.

So when it came time for the Lakers to put a value on his longtime friend and teammate, Bryant thought little about lending his support to the cause.

According to sources close to the situation, Bryant didn’t just voice his support for Fisher’s return; he made sure it happened.

“Kobe really proved his allegiance in all of this,” one source said. “Kobe is a loyal, true friend to Derek, and he proved that this week.”

Fisher is no sycophant to Bryant, though. Far from it.

He is, for lack of a better word, Bryant’s counterweight.

Gravitas personified. The force that keeps Bryant and the Lakers grounded and in balance.

did i miss something? what exactly did kobe do?

    • 09-10-11champs!

never mind, i had to read the whole article to understand it, not only the part that was posted here.

check this out, something we had never heard about!

“Still, during their 11 seasons together as teammates, Bryant probably has had more arguments with Fisher than almost any other player.

Face to face, voices raised, in front of the entire team, but behind closed doors on the practice court.

You never heard about any of these clashes, because they were always about basketball and never personal.

No one ever had to step between them as they argued. Actually, no one would dare. ” WOW

Fisher had earned the right to talk to Bryant that way. Bryant respected him enough to listen.

I got a question for everyone on TLN, if the Lakers would of kept Fisher after the 04′ season and they had him in those 3 seasons where the Lakers were horse sh!!!t, do you guys think the Lakers could’ve gotten to the WCF?

    • Kamakazi

The way you put it yes because one of those times the lakers were ahead by 1 game so to answer your question, with fish in the lineup yes, I think they would most likely. The team still would have lost in the finals probably though because they just did not have enough in the interior to win it all vs the spurs . It all lead to kobe going on a rant and waking up the front office to make the right changes– you need a good bunch of players to win and they have this now

Certainly, the ’06 team with Fish instead of Smush Parker could have maintained their composure to the point where they could have beaten the Suns. They would certainly have handled the Clippers in the next round and there they are in the WCF.
On a totally unrelated note, I find it interesting that you correctly use the contraction “could’ve” at the end of your post, after using the nonsensical “would of” at the beginning. I wonder which one you used intentionally.

yah 242LAkerfan i was thinkin if we would of beat the suns we would of handle the clippers.! but thats the past now n we have learn now we gotta focused on this year.! its a gonna be so different wit teams making so many changes.!

U can’t replace D.Fish, ask Kobe how those 3 seasons were without him. Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!

Great job and decision Kobe, in helping to bring back your counterweight! Now, go make another great move in helping the Lakers sign Raja!

    GO LAKERS!!!!!!!

Thank you Kobe, and thanks for talking with Raja Bell too.
Now we know… NOW … it IS Kobe’s team. Thank you LeChoke and Dwade, for making it OK for ALL of us to know that YOU GUYS run the show.
The media can now STFU, because they previously were riding Kobe for causing a ruckus in his interests in having a Championship team built around him. They ACCUSED him of being a GM. Whereas Kup, Buss, & West are in charge of the team, we do know that they listened to Kobe, and (even though it cost $$$), it paid off.
Now, Kobe can talk FREELY to anyone. If the media complains, then they are self admitted hypocrites – with the current accusations of collusion by players (which is unfounded), and the media’s admitting that it’s OK for players to talk with each other, NOW – they cannot say ANYTHING about Kobe.
The media built up LeJerk, and they got completely slapped in the face. He is no longer King, and can NO LONGER be compared with Kobe.
The Miami Coup d’etat has been the BEST THING for Kobe, AND the Lakers.
For Kobe – media has to eat their Nikes, and SHUT UP.
For the Lakers – now that the Miami GM has pulled a Steinbrenner (thanks to George for this! RIP), Buss HAS to put up more $$ to compete with the Heat. Now we will DEFINITELY have at least 2 or 3 more Championships to celebrate.
Next year, I’m bringing my vuvuzela to the Figueroa parade.
