The Lakers and Nuggets meet this Sunday. Denver’s J.R. Smith tweeted this after watching on TV as Bryant hit the tying and winning 3-pointers in Memphis.

Twitter: “Dont get me wrong kobe is great but not when he play me”

Typically we here would leave it at that, but Smith, don’t have such a short memory… Sunday should be fun…

  • Leor_77

So far this season, Denver has beaten us twice, so they kinda can talk smack to us. Hopefully, we can make a statement on Sunday.

    • Anthony

Hopefully indeed. I understand that the playoffs are completely different, but time and time again I’ve seen the Lakers allow regular season losses to bother them in the playoffs.

      • LAALLDAY213

Time and time again? Against who? Aside from that 7 game series against Houston last year, no team won more than 2 games against us during the playoffs.

      • 242LakerFan

Yeah, it really ruffled us to have been swept by Orlando last reg. season.
Some of those reg. season losses bothered ME, but I don’t see how they bothered the team in the playoffs.
        I think you’re projecting.

      • Jonathan

yes, the magic’s sweep of the us in the season series last year really bothered us in the finals, I understand where you are coming from

  • http://www.ld2k.com Chris Manning

Leor, we do indeed have a rivalry with them but those two losses (1st was one 2nd night of back-2-back), and second they shot a, though respectable, ridiculous one-night-a-season type of games.

I look forward to Sunday. Nothing means anything – verbiage – ’til you beat us in the playoffs. So as always, keep talking Denver. We’re ready for you.

  • TOUCHING_MYSELF

What the hell is that jack ass smoking? “Dont get me wrong kobe is great but not when he play me”.

First of all, it’s “… but not when he PLAY(S) me”. Stupid ignorant fool!

Second of all it’s like Chris Manning said, the 1st loss was in Den off of a back to back night and Kobe had a respectable 19 points. The 2nd loss was Chauncey having all the stars aligning for him, because he shot an unbelievable 9-13 in 3s! And Kobe did shoot a 11-22 for 33 points!

So, is Smith’s idea of keeping Kobe from scoring 40 a great feat? Because Kobe only scored 33 the last time, he somehow thinks that he OWNS Kobe? JR Smith is a Jack ass and is just sore because he was posterized by Kobe in the playoffs last year with that 3 point shot by Kobe!

    GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!
    GO KOBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mr.laker19

lol, J.R. Tickles me… anybody who takes the regular season seriously is nuts. I repeat THE ONLY team to sweep us last season was who? Anybody wanna guess?
Oh yea, it was the damm team we beat in da FInals!!!! lol Catch us in may and june please

  • LAALLDAY213

He may have meant it in another way, perhaps even jokingly because the tweet prior he said “man kobe is the shit, I can’t lie”. Whatever the case, it woulda had more meaning to it from a competitive standpoint if Chauncey or Melo said it. But to have it come out of a bench player who has more tats than common sense, we can’t even take this seriously, it’s a joke.

    • mr.laker19

      Agreed!

  • 242LakerFan

Okay, looking back over a decade plus, how many people have there been who have been dubbed, either by themselves or the media, “Kobe-stoppers”?
Now go back and count how many of those teams have turned that into playoff series wins.
    Any of them named Smith?
    Didn’t think so.

    • daboss1848

posey and bell, cant think of others for now

      • Anthony

        Don’t forget Ruben Patterson.

        • daboss1848

i was only referring to the ones whose teams actually beat us.

      • 242LakerFan

Bell, yeah, but I don’t recall Posey being hyped as a “Kobe-stopper”.

  • Ruin818

What???? Why did the staff here cut out the rest of the message????? Here is the complete tweet……… “Dont get me wrong kobe is great but not when he play me, when he play me, he seem to elevate his game that much higher, I dont know how he been done it” … its great to see respect among the players..

  • Sonny

It’s gonna be a good game. Monkey JR Smith watch out for Black Mamba knukklehead

  • Kobe8/24

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I needed that laugh.

  • http://www.myspace.com/626bones Lakers 24 7

lol JR Smith is just a chucker who throws up horrible shots and prays they go in. He can definitely put up big numbers and shoot his team back into the game, but he can also do the opposite just as much.

  • lakerbunny

YOU COULDNT BEAT THE LAKERS NOW YOU GIVE THEM BULLETIN BOARD MATERIAL! GENIUS!

  • BE_A_LakerFan

J.R. Smith doesn’t know what the f he’s talking about. He will soon eat his words.

  • yash

    hahhahahahahaha….
    that was a good one.
wait another coming up ahahhahahahahhahahahahahahhahaha. k im done. hahahaha

Lebron is the second best player. and JR smith is like 100+ best player on the team. and Lebron cant guard Kobe.

  • http://nbafan24.webs.com kbfan24

This makes me truly laugh, especially coming from a guy who doesn’t play defense.

  • Robert

Agree with ‘Ruin818′. The quote was taken out of context. JR Smith was giving props to Kobe, not the reverse. Also, everybody knows Kobe was injured for the last month, so guarding someone ‘just off injury’ ain’t nothing big. In fact, it makes more sense the JR was impressed – because Kobe, right after injury, puts up 32 points AND the game winner. That’s not easy to do.
    .
    Kobe = MVP
    .
But, what I’m more concerned about is the Lakers appearing to not be ‘coming together’. What a team should do in the month of March (and there’s still time), is to ‘just begin’ to play dominant, and end up on a very UPBEAT note by the time playoffs roll around, to get that momentum. So, Denver is the place to start. We need some type of statement, to let everyone know we’re still the champs.
