This just released from the NBA league office.

In response to inquiries, NBA Commissioner David Stern released the following statement:

Since the NBA purchased the New Orleans Hornets, final responsibility for significant management decisions lies with the Commissioner’s Office in consultation with team chairman Jac Sperling.

All decisions are made on the basis of what is in the best interests of the Hornets. In the case of the trade proposal that was made to the Hornets for Chris Paul, we decided, free from the influence of other NBA owners, that the team was better served with Chris in a Hornets uniform than by the outcome of the terms of that trade.”

This is a conflict of interest!

  • what in the name of john wayne

HORNETS are going to lose Paul and end up with nothing. Good job Stern

  • Rela_dt_third

    Hypocrit morons, Especially Stern.

  • Cltrader337

Thats BS…..If anything, the Hornets best interest is to do the trade.  I’m not saying this because I would like to see CP3 in purple and gold.  I am saying this because they get Odom, Scola, Martin, Dragic, and 2 first round draft picks that they took from the Knicks……Of course it benefits the team, “basketball ” wise, but not if you look at it in a marketing sense.  CP3 has been making them all this money since he was drafted, and they figure that they can make more money this season with him on still on the team then off the team.  Little do they know, the damage is already done.  What fan would buy things in regards to a player that they know is going to leave?  @Stern….Just do the trade and get something for your superstar instead of getting nothing next season. DOOSH!

  • Brazilian Laker

NBA is a joke and Stern is the face of that! Give the ting to other little franchises… Ridiculous. Chris Paul have to rebel himself and create a huge problem.

  • EJ

so He’s better off in a hornets uniform for 5 months only to leave the team and they get nothing in return..makes a lot of sense commish!

  • Eid_sami93

u dumb dude!!! best interest? he gon’ leave u guys next season for nothin’

  • Artcampa

Fuck the NBA! You know how many fans your gonna loose over this? What about Cleveland? Or Toronto? Now you care about teams and the fans. FUCK YOU , just retire already!!

  • Williach2001

BS!!!  Stern sealed the demise of the hornets with that decision!

  • Bigemax

if it was CP for shannon Brown and Odom..yes…this trade…ummm no NBA@2k12 would not let you make that trade

Ok, but they lebron leave Cleveland?!
It’s funny, Chris Paul doesn’t wanna be there….so he isn’t gonna work hard…Hell probably not even half of his full potential for a team be doesn’t want to play with.

    • bye bye brown

The only good thing about this is Dan Gilbert keeps making things worst for himself I’m sure free agents are lining up to play in Cleveland now after this fiasco. Oh and I sure the Lakers Rockets New Orleans & the Heat are just dying to make a fair trade with your team. yeah right they probably would rather give player away then help your sorry ass. So when your team still suck 10 years from now and you can’t get any free agents to come help your #1 draft picks and they all bolt after 4 yeras just go look in the mirror not at the big market teams as to why this is happening.

I CALL BULLSHIT!!!  SO THEY ARE BETTER OFF WHEN HE LEAVES AND THE HORNETS GET NOTHING IN RETURN.  WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT!!!

  • Karma74146

screw the nba, i dont even care about the season now. this whole fiasco is bs, you have screwed all three of the teams involved in the trade, as they now are stuck with players that they would trading, one. second, if you gonna stop the cp3 trade, why dont you reserve the trades of carmelo and lebron,  so that the rest of the teams can compete? you talk about fair but seems like your just trying to sell tickets , and at this rate i think you have lost sales, and i personally have lost respect for Dan Gilbert and all the other owners in the league. This is a business and your out to make money, i think that your stupid if you dont see the business upside to this.. the Rockets are in a rebuilding phase, they get one of the most versatile bigs in the game right now, with them losing Yao to retirement, they are in need of the rebuilding, for the Hornets they are getting 3 solid players to go with Ariza, which allows them to still be competive in the east. As a laker fan, lets be realistic about this, we acquire our pg of the future, we lose two excellent bigs, that have be vital parts to our core, so in essence we are taking the same big risk that every other team in the league is.. If anything we are opening up the west as we would have the same dominant force in the post that we have had over recent years. not to mention we have a new coach and probably at least one year of adjusting and teaking to do..So get your head out of your ass STERN…AND CORRECT YOUR ERROR, THIS ISNT ABOUT THE WHAT THE OWNERS WANT.. WE COME TO SEE THE PLAYERS, NOT THE OWNERS..IF YOUR LEAGUE IS ALL ABOUT THE OWNERS LET ME KNOW NOW, SO I CAN FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO THIS SEASON…cause you veto that trade like that has screwed my team this year, thanks for ruining my favorite sport

  • DavidSternsMom

Fuck you Stern, self serving prick

  • Mia Manantan

when will Dictator Stern be anything but vague?  probably never.

mmhmm..nice try commish, you just ruined basketball for all fans.  Dwight WANTS to go to New Jersey.  you gonna try to stop him?  yeah. thought so.  what a JOKE

  • D. N.

booolshiddd.  i will never believe Mark Cuban didn’t pull the strings.  And Stern’s statement makes no sense in light of Gilbert’s letter.

  • Russell Grant

At least three owners are involved in that decision which was “free from the influence of other NBA owners”.  Next time you tell a lie, kill the damn email trail!

  • Mo

    Bullsh*t!

  • Sakimoto

David Stern + NBA owners + Wussies!! Idiots!!!!

  • Russell Grant

Mark Cuban and Dan Gilbert are still owners who were very vocal about the trade going down.  Gilbert most upset that he wasn’t going to get his piece of the $21,000,000 the Lakers would shed in luxury tax.  He said so in his email to you David before you  “decided, free from the influence of other NBA owners”.  This isn’t even a good lie.

  • NBullsH_t

NBA = No Brains At All!!!

  • Audie5thg

What the Lakers gave up on the trade was more than genorous, with CP3 in LA they went small, as compared to thier roster now they are huge. Maybe cancelling off the trade was a blessing in disquist.  Lakers will just to find a PG,  with out giving any significant amount of talent.

  • David2831g

Then why did he tell Demps he was tradable? Why would the GM be shopping someone around without the owners consent. I can smell the BS from here!

  • Abcshocker

    David Stern is a CockS*cker

  • Aaron

From Louisiana and Hornets fan. While I’m glad to know I can still go watch CP play it does sadden me he could not get the trade. Don’t get me wrong I hate the Lakers but CP has always been a class act and deserves a shot to play with more talent. When the NBA bought the Hornets I knew nothing good was going to come out of it. Hindsight for the players sake I wish they would have stayed in Oklahoma after Hurricaine Katrina.

  • Rypenilla

david stern can suck a fat dick and having cp3 be misserable in a hornets jersey is not in there best interest fuck him

  • David2831g

Wow. I know 2 owners and 3 GM’s that wanted the trade to happen. I’m SHOCKED that the other owners would not want to see these 3 teams improve. SHOCKED I tell you.
Cuban expects us to beleive he now cares about small market teams. His comments and those of the other owners serve THIER OWN best interest. Not the Hornets or the NBA in general. Come on man, THese guys think we are idiots or something. Screw you Stern Cuban Gilbert and the entire fracking debacle! This was the straw that broke this fan!

This man deserves to rott in hell.

As a big Laker fan I do know that we are in need of a younger point guard ( no offense Derek ) but I think this trade would have hurt the Lakers more than helped.  I think the Hornets were making out with who they would have gotten.  How could they decide to not do it, I think they were getting the better end of the deal.    If we can’t acquire Dwight ( looks like he is going to the Nets now ) than I think we need to find a true point guard who is available and hold onto Bynum, Gasol, & Lamar for now.   I think we should have kept Farmar.
