Chris Paul to the Lakers? I’m all for it!

UPDATE: Sources told Chris Broussard on Thursday that the Knicks and Magic are on Paul’s list of preferred destinations, but the Lakers are not.

CBS Report: According to a source with knowledge of his plan, Chris Paul has requested that the Hornets trade him to the Knicks, Magic or Lakers before the season begins.”He wants out,” the source told Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

“He wants to play with another superstar. He wants to follow LeBron’s model of teaming up with other great players.”

  • larry

who would the hornets take from us for this trade…..

    • tyler

OKAY!! im alll for it. This will be the trade odom, walton, sasha, plus picks if needed for paul and posey. We dont draft picks when the roster will be set for years with this trade plus we drafted two young studs this year. Starting would be bynum gasol artest kobe and paul. I also say bring in tmac for vet minimum. We would have posey, blake, fisher, tmac, plus young rookies for backups. Phil is gonna retire after this season so more in likely one more year of the triangle offense and it gone, all the more reasons to bring in paul.

      • http://yahoo jaydubb415

Slow down tyler i was feeling everything you were saying until you got 2 that ”t-mac crap”let that ”drama queen’go about his buisiness. All t-mac would do will piss kobe n gasol off while there ”tuffing” it out thru ”injuries’t-mac is at the end of ”the bench”n street clothes bcuzz he has a ”hang-nail”.

    • http://rivalmedia.tv Chris Ekstedt

odom, which i think i am okay with. but wouldn’t that be kind of crappy/funny if the lakers traded fish?

      • http://www.Hehatemealotbiatch.com hehatemealot

Chris Paul is not coming to the Lakers. U morons. Get your heads out of ur azzes.

  • sohail

we better give NOH sasha…sasha will kill him if he comes to LA. http://thelakersnation.com/blog/2009/01/07/vujacic-says-chris-paul-used-b-word/

    • http://butthegameison.com/blog/ Mark

Obviously, Sasha can’t kill a fly so that wouldn’t be a problem.

      • sohail

        good point

  • Str8 Ballin

Let see? How about we trade Steve Blake, Sasha vujacic, and a Future First Round Draft Pick..

    Is this make sense??

    • drewdeluxe

You can’t trade Steve Blake.. We just signed him..

      • NYs biggest lakers fan

Are we not allowed to trade Blake, is that a rule

        • http://yahoo jaydubb415

give up sasha ,walton, are 2011 first rd picks maybe throw in mbenga as a cherry on top

    • http://butthegameison.com/blog/ Mark

No, the cap would be in the $95 million range. Can’t do it. Have to trade Sasha + Bynum and maybe even Odom to accommodate cap wise.

      • Str8 Ballin

How about Sasha, L.O and Bynum for Chris Paul and Okafor???

        • tHE ONE!

lo and sasha is about 14 mill off the books! that will be more than enough!

YEA MAN CHRIS PAUL WILL BE THE TRUTH WITH US MAN WE WERE ALREADY GOING TO BEAT MIAMI BUT WITH CHRIS PAUL ON THE ROSTER WE ARE DEFINETELY DOING DAMAGE AND KEEP SHANNON AND KOBE U ARE THE BEST PLAYER EVER IN HISTORY

      • http://yahoo jaydubb415

So you would give odom up?Wouldn’t that be giving up some of are size n wouldn’t that put us at a ”level”like everybody else?

  • Sean All Ivy

This would be amazing but I doubt there would be a situation where they don’t demmand Bynum in return. I feel if we give up Andrew we take away what differentiates us from the league.

    • PRLaker

i agree, we can’t lose our bigs, they are the reason no one can outrebound us

  • drewdeluxe

    Chris Paul and Emeka Okafor

    for

    Bynum/Walton/Sasha

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2538lnk

We’d still have a decent defensive center.. Paul would take care of Okafor’s lack at the offensive end.. Maybe grab Shaq or Kwame as a backup..

    • BigplayDA10

I think Odom/Walton/Sasha for Chris Paul and James Posey would be better for us. We get rid of Walton and Sasha, get CP3, get a good defender/knock down shooter in Posey, and get to keep Bynum which makes us stand out from other teams with two 7 footers. Odom is a hard player to replace, but I think we would come out better with this deal overall.

    • LAallday

Never mention Kwame’s name in a lakernation blog. NEVER!

HAHAHAHA this kinda made my day. FCUK KWAME BROWN!

Right now ”shaq”would be a ”distraction”his comments he made about ”kobe n phil”not just the ”wack-ass free-style he did”but the other digs like when he said he’s playing with the best ”2 guard”(d-wade)that he’s ever ”played with, nah ”FUCK SHAQ”with capital letters!!!

  • SamV

guys if we give up LO or Bynum in a trade, our team is worst. It takes away from depth and size…we already have depth and experience at the PG position. The triangle just needs pg’s that can knock down shots. The lakers are the best team in the league because of our size and defense.

    • http://yahoo jaydubb415

Thats what people need 2 understand we won because of are ”length n size”if i’m am the lakers i’m not giving up odom or bynum everybody else we can talk

      • KRILL

agree but CP3 is hall of famer caliber.. and can steal the ball.. now what u say abt that

  • Mike

I’d love for the Lakers to acquire CP3 after this season… when Phil is gone and they can play a different style of basketball. I love him as a player but he just doesn’t fit into the triangle.

Orlando with CP3 would be VERY scary. Orlando could give up Gortat and take on Okafor’s terrible contract in return, and also give up Nelson and Vince Carter. NO then gets a much cheaper version of Okafor in Gortat, a young point guard who plays more like a shooting guard in Nelson, and some star power in Carter. Orlando ends up with a starting 5 lead by CP3 making plays, Howard finishing down low, and guys like Redick Pietrus, and Lewis raining 3’s. With Okafor ready to step in when Howard is in foul trouble, or they can both play against bigger teams.

If NO keeps him for another year, maybe they’d take Bynum, Odom’s expiring contract, and Blake for CP3 and Okafor, giving the Lakers a starting 5 of CP3, Kobe, Artest, Pau, and Okafor to run a more up-tempo offense. (Do you think Byron Scott would be asking Lebron for tips on how to piss of Dan Gilbert so he can get fired and take over that team?)

    • http://yahoo jaydubb415

mike do you work 4 orlando cuzz me as a ”die-hard laker fan”i don’t wanna hear shit about how chris paul would look on another team but us

  • http://www.thewestwoodblog.com/ Agent Scott

I agree with comment above, leave the 2 time NBA Champion Lakers alone. We are not a Chris Paul type of team. Paul is good with an athletic run and gun type of team. That is not the Lakers forte. We need halfcourt b ball with the ball in Kobe’s hand about 75% of the time. If we trade and get rid of Bynum, we loose the one piece that most don’t have an answer for when healthy. If the Hornets stupidely take sign and trade brown with sasha and or walton …and maybe 1 of our rookies, plus a draft pick… then do it. Otherwise, sign Barnes or someone else and lets tri-peat.

    • SHOWTIME4EVA

my thoughts exactly.he is a great point guard.but we are suppose to be filling the voids not trading guys.we just signed two pg’s.now let’s stay on track.and keep looking for a back up center and a sg/sf. besides where was he when we were obviously looking for a point guard.

  • Patrick Bateman

Send him East, Less competition in the West means more WCF for the Lakers. And the East will have to battle it out to meet the Lakers.

I see CP3 going to NYK by the trade deadline.
Amare and Cp3 with Mike D’Antoni could spell trouble for East teams.

  • LC09

WHY DA FU K WUD YALL TRADE BYNUM???? anyone who is sayin bynum for paul is a str8 up retard..WOW do yall not get how we win n wats our adv?? lmao please stop wit bynum trades..BUT if we can get paul witout givin up out core players than yes do it but thats highly unlikey

  • Patrick Bateman

Then Again, Orlando have more pieces N.O. may want
    such as Nelson.

  • LakersShowtime 80s

We are the reigning Champions. Let’s not get desperate and break up our squad as a knee jerk reaction to what Miami has done. I’d much rather try to beat them with the team that we have…it’d make the win much more sweeter. We can start discussing adding new superstars after couple more years.

  • Patrick Bateman

If a trade were to happen, I woulnt trade Bynum.
Bynum and Paul will definitely become the foundation of the post kobe era.

ya no way will the hornets trade in the same conference or even to the lakers. we absolutely have nothing they want. unless they think collins as their future pg of the hornets and just want an expiring contracts or if they feel like they can contend, then they’ll want bynum for sure as their big man center piece with a young collins. other than that, its not gonna happen.

  • JAY

i’d love to have paul but theres no way we should try and trade Bynum or Odom or any key pieces for him..Our length and chemistry is what makes this team special..i see him goin to the Magic for Nelson, and whoever else besides Carter and Howard

  • james

I have an idea, lakers should trade shanon brown and sasha vujacic to chris paul. instead of lamar odom.

    • SHOWTIME4EVA

throw luke ass in there too.

      • Lakers=beast

who cares if we are the most hated? if we have a good team, they must hate us

  • dereick

as much as i would love cp3, it might risk time learning the triangle if it ain’t broke, dont fix.

  • inverse

First of all people, without even looking at the possible core pieces were gonna need to trade in order to land paul, lets just see how he’d fit in with the lakers. Cp3 thrives in a system that gets out in transition, thats definitely not the triangle. Hes gonna demand the ball, but obviously the ball goes through kobe and pau first. That means hes gonna need to learn how to play off the ball, something he doesnt do very much. Don’t get me wrong Cp3 is top 3 pg in the league, but his game doesnt fit in LA. And for those that are saying, “lets trade luke and sasha, and hey we’ll be generous and throw in shannon!”, what kinda kush u guys smoking cause i want some of that too. NOH arent trading cp3 to the best team in the west w/o taking key pieces back. If it happens, expect bynum and LO to be moved, as well as absorbing okafor’s toxic contract. KEEP IT SIMPLE LAKERS! Few key role players away from being unstoppable, thats it. Matt Barnes&Kurt thomas and were set

  • Sir

People stop listing players other than Bynum in your dream trade scenarios. If this trade were to go down the negotiations would start with Bynum. I wouldn’t really want that though since it takes away from our depth down low. At the same time CP3 is one of the top players in the league and chances like this don’t come around too often…

  • keepon_keepinon18

While the possibility of getting CP3 (possibly straight up for Lamar and Sasha/Luke) is stunning, depth-wise it would not help…

    CP3/Blake/Fish
    Kobe/Shannon(?)/Sasha
    Ron/Sasha/Ebanks(?)
    Pau/Caracter(?)
    Drew/Caracter(?)

Don’t forget guys that one of the main priorities for the Lakers this off-season was to shore up the PG position. Since they did that, one of the next priorities was Pau’s back-up. If Lamar Odom leaves, his roles (on a good day, he is indispensable) could only be filled by multiple PF/C players. Also, the Lakers already have a bevy of guards and wingmen. Personally, I would really like Pau (and Kobe) to not play 40 minutes in a regular season game…

  • Nemesis

I’d trade L/O, Luke, & Sasha (+future pics) for Paul & Posey faster than Odom can commit a charge.

Fact is, Posey compensates handsomely for Odom’s inconsistency & by virtue of his defensive prowess. With Sasha out, you could easily go Blake/Fisher at the PG/SG spots in backup with some Shannon Brown sprinkled in.

Paul would be juuuuust fine in the triangle & would just be stone cold in the P&R with Pau/Kobe/Artest. Not to mention his passing ability & his penchant for thievery. I say…why is this even a discussion?

    • PRLaker

we can’t give away our lenght damit,. its what makes us so dificult to beat, drew gets on foul trouble here comes odom another 7 footer, our lenght combined with the play of kobe is what makes the lakers so damn good!!!

  • alex

    people are forgetting that

-HIS offensive skills (albiet good) are not NEEDED in the triangle
-DEFENSE is needed and although he might get steals we would be giving up a lot of SIZE at that position.

We have a good enough offense already, I’d rather keep D-Fish cause of overall needs of the team and price.

  • Gino

as much as i think cp3 has enough basketball IQ to learn and adjust to the triangle, all the trades that we’re talking about here don’t seem the slightest bit possible. the only small chance for a trade to happen would be sasha’s expiring contract and luke retiring to clear the books of his contract.
    .
We better pray we can sign another veteran big if we do trade include Odom or Bynum as a trade chip. b/c our team will become seriously undersized. perhaps a multi-team trade would probably help, esp if we can involve a team desperate to clear cap space before the CBA expires.

  • JeremyLA24

If we’re going to aquire CP3 here’s how it’s gonna go: 3 way trade anyone?

Lakers: aquire CP3 from the Honets and Bargnani from the Raptors to replace Bynum (the dude’s 7ft and scores 17 ppg)

Hornets: aquire Bynum from the Lakers and the expiring contracts of Barbosa and Banks from the raptors (both are quality guys but if N.O don’t want the long term their deals are up after next season anyways)

Rapters: aquire Okafer from the Hornets (they lack a true Center and have alot of of outside shooters so they don’t need a big that can shoot) and Sasha’s expiring contract to replace one of there guards (in three months you could replace this with Steve Blake but the Raps’ may prefer Sasha’s less talent for his expiring contract)

Why this Works: The Knicks and Magic Can’t provide a better player to trade for CP3 than Andrew. The Raptors always get pumlled by the big Centers in the league and this may just be the answer for them. The Lakers need to look at the future without giving up their title chances while Kobe is still a top player. Last but not least, All the supplementary contracts are expiring and it leaves the Hornets and Raptors with rebuilding room for the next season.

Yes, it works in trade machine so plug in the teams and players I listed and you’ll see noone is getting bummed. (minus New Orleans who seem to be losing CP3 with or without Bynum)

    • KRILL

Best trade scenario I have heard, and it’s not even close.. everybody here benefits.. only the teams who take chances WIN, talk to Jerry West when he homered it with Kobe & Shaq.

      • LEADERFISH

Bargnani is not a post player like Bynum. Bad trade.

    • PRLaker

with bynum is not about how many points he scores, its his presence behind pau, you dream

  • jase21

Would be nice, but not going to happen. We would have to give up to much size to get him. N.O. ain’t going to let him walk anyways, he’s still locked in for 2 more years.

  • jase21

The lakers are not going to trade Drew. If you got the touches per game that Dwight gets in ORL, he would be an ALL STAR hands down.

  • Richard

i don’t think Lakers is his top list, he would probably prefer Knicks, but they got no one is worth except Amare. And Heat won’t gave up 1 of the 3 kings. CP has become free agent if he wanna go to championship contented team. lakers got 2 guard with minimum of 2 + years contract, what we need is good back up bigman.

    • http://yahoo jaydubb415

Its a rumor ”today”that portland may grab hif n they got ”pieces”2 NO,if that happens that will be a problem we already have problems with portland as it is so if we don’t get him i hope he goes east.

  • 09-10-11champs!

HEY GUYS! YOU´RE ONLY SEEING IT THE LAKERS WAY!!
I THINK NEW ORLEANS WOULD ALSO HAVE TO AGREE TO A ODOM/LUKE/SASHA TRADE, AND I DOUBT THEY WOULD. THEIR ASKING PRICE WOULD BE TOO HIGH, LETS KEEP IT REAL THOUGH!!!

THEY´LL PROBABLY ASK FOR BYNUM AND LAMAR, NOT WORTH IT!!!

    • JeremyLA24

see 3 way trade I posted 1215. Sounds a little nicer for New Orleans than Lamar Luke and Sasha.

  • KING

good point guards are a dime a dozen… look at the last couple of drafts… Westbrook, Rondo, Wall, Flynn, Curry, Lawson, Collison… how many truly good big men have come out in that time span? brook lopez? who else?… thought so… Bynum’s potential is still too great to be traded just like that… i mean we commited to developing him already… why jump ship now? especially after we won 2 chips, with minimal contributions from him… now he’s perhaps even more important to us… with the Celts re-upping at center, the rockets getting stronger at the Center positions… and with the lack of good big men Miami has that might be our one true advantage over them… (well besides the experience, and championship pedigree, better city, and not being lil Bitches… not to mention Kobe Bryant)

  • showtime

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2bk6yjn

Get out of 4 more years with Ron Artest! As much as I love his antics and helping win that game 7…he has 4 years left on his contract and he’s not getting younger. Plus he didn’t pick up the triangle at all.

    Lakers:

CP3/Steve Blake (can play SG too)/D. Fish
    Kobe/Sasha
    Posey/Walton/Ebanks
    Odom/Powell/Caracter
    Gasol/??

  • harmony_smurf

Almost everybody on this site is smoking Crack! Anytime you have an opportunity to get someone of Cris Paul’s talent you do it in heartbeat! The guy can flat out ball! Don’t forget he was neck and neck with Kobe for the MVP. The Bonus is that we get rid of an overpriced player with potentially permanent bum knees, that has yet to show up in the play-offs! We won the Chips without any contribution from that overpriced bum! Chris, is so good that he would adapt to any style of play and add his as well. Also, you guys need to look into the future as Phil will leave giving us lots of different scenarios and directions to go. At the very least we get a player with incredibly high stock, for a player whose stock has high risk of crashing! I Trust Mitch has allot more basketball sense than most of you who are in love with Bynum’s potential (which is all that is going for him so far), and will do whatever takes to get this deal done!

  • tHE ONE!

Luke Walton Sasha and LO! should get it done! we’ll see though! magic have some players they can offer too! Knicks are out of the question!

  • TheKloser

We can’t trade for CP3. We already have Fish and Blake. A solid PG starter/backup combo. Both players know the triangle, they bring more to our style of play. Giving up players like Bynum, Artest, or Odom will kill our chemistry. As much as we all want CP3 in a Laker uniform, its not happening.

HOWEVER, what about the idea of buying out Fluke Walton. Seriously, he’s worse than the oil spill in the Gulf…a giant waste of money/resources!

    • KRILL

I think chemistry goes hand in hand with Fisher and Kobe and Gasol.. possibly Odom and down the line, cp3 would become cp3.1 if he joined, and i don’t foresee any problem chemistry wise if anything, success breeds chemistry.. everybody’s happy when you’re winning titles.

  • Robert.

Not sure how this would play out financially. I’m not thinking about now – thinking about the future. Kobe/Pau/Bynum already take a big chunk of the ‘future’ 58 million CAP. CP3 would clearly want ‘as much’ (20 million?). Then we would have a situation close to Miami, except it’s clear Buss would be over the cap (and, well over luxury).
    .
We won’t be able to re-sign Kobe / Pau / Bynum / CP3 – too little $ available (again, talking about future).
    .
Also, we need the ‘bigs’ NOW to defeat the Cell-blocks, and the Heat (who will never have the length the Lakers have, while Bynum / Odom / Pau are around). Let’s say we have a good 5 years with the current core. Then CP3 makes sense ‘mostly’ if he signs with another team now, and then 5 years from now decides to come to Lakers.
    .
He’s still young, and even after 5 years will still have plenty of years left (PGs can last longer, since they tend to be ball distributors – look at Steve Nash – 2 MVPs over 30). So, I can see CP3 being a star for us in the future.
    .
Where he would ‘thrive’ is Knicks (D’Antoni’s offense + Amare is there), or Magic (DH). CP3 works ‘best’ with a good big – he worked well with Chandler. Watching the alley-oop passes was part of the excitement of the Hornets.
    .
BUT, if he goes to Magic, that will be a problem for the Lakers – however, it will also be a problem for the Heat, who would probably then meet up with them in the Eastern Conference Finals. I would then go with the Magic to beat the Heat, actually! The Heat will NOT be able to stop CP3, and DH. I’m actually for this move!

    • LbC Ya562

Im sorry, did you mistake this for the Magic Nation site? Cuz in my window up above it says Laker Nation…. Just makin sure my computer isn’t tripping. No one CARES about the Magic and THEM gettin better.

Its a dream but I don’t think that will happen for us to give up 3 players for one. Our team is good enough for now if somehow fisher wasn’t play then maybe they would have gone to that option to get him.

I would not include Bynum and/or Odom in trades. Additionally, Kobe, Pau, Fisher are untouchables as well. We can’t trade Blake if I’m correct. There’s a policy that you have to wait a number of months after signing a contract before the team can trade him. Which means … this trade doesn’t make any sense unless we overload on the point guard position.

  • stucktrader

hmm shocking… so, this is how the “3-me’s” affect the NBA……

The only way this works is Bynum, Blake, Sasha, and maybe one of the rooks………………….. for Okafor and CP3…. I dont think N.O. would take on Waltons contract

If it went that way…. then
    1. Fish/CP3 2. Kobe/Brown 3. Artest/Walton/(T-Mac if lose Ebanks) 4. LO/Pau/Caracter 5. Okafor/DJ with 2 more spots max to fill……………. I don’t think CP3 is LA bound.

Wish he would have made this known before we signed Steve Blake, smh. I see no way how this happens. Unless we trade Blake, Sasha, and Luke lol. I’m not sure the money even works out on that trade.
    .
Anyway, if he goes to any of those teams listed.. I think the Knicks is the most likely destination. We’ll see.

    • http://www.twitter.com/TLN24 Marwan Marzina

If we had left Blake and pursued CP3, the Hornets would still want a piece in return, which is most likely Bynum. Signing Blake is a security blanket for the PG position as we don’t have to worry about other teams signing Blake, incase the Hornets didn’t accept the offer we gave them.
Our chances of getting CP3 now and before signing Blake are the same, we have the same pieces then and now. If we don’t trade any of our core members, then the Hornets won’t give us CP3, which I’m fine with. Our core members proved they can win a championship together, giving one of them up for CP3 means we gave up a working piece.
But as you said, this trade won’t work out financially, and yes, the Knicks is the most likely destination, even though he pitched the idea to Melo at his wedding.

      • http://thetruthrenaissance.wordpress.com/ BE_A_LakerFan

That’s true my friend. After I wrote my comment I kind of figured the same thing. Didn’t give it much thought b/c I was so excited lol. We’ll see how things turn out though. Next season will be very interesting.. a lot of movement in the leauge.

        • KRILL

I have talked about this, but it seems less and less likely.. but I would loooooooove for this to happen. if the Lakers traded Bynum they would still be alive and run set pieces more of a run and gun type of offense that phil can do sometimes just get a pick at the midcourt and roll. But if the trade happens it will be the Knicks, even though they don’t have a hell of a lot of pieces.. but they love to take on big contracts so they would welcome Okafer and amare.. would they win a title? No, but they would be a top 5-7 seed in the east.

  • rondo

I see why none of you clowns are not general managers. You clowns would fuck the world champs up with your bonehead trades. The Lakers are not going to make themselves small because of a few uninformed fans who hate Bynum wants to get rid of him. The Lakers will run you clown out of their office with this crazy nonesense.

This Kid averages 10+APG in NEW ORLEANS!!!
Imagine how many apg he will average as a LAKERS!!
I’m not even going to even mention his points. Its too obvious…
Can you imagine the impact this kid can do if he joins the Lakers?
he is what 25? years old…
He will be the future with pau and will be the core to the lakers the moment he puts on the Lakers jersey w/o a doubt. This kid is a monster.

  • 242LakerFan

About the only guy who supported Fish at the beginning of his career (outside the Laker organization) was Jim Rome. And me, but I don’t have a national TV show.
Why do I bring this up? Because for 14 years everybody else has been moaning about the Lakers not having a prototype point guard, bringing up all Fisher’s deficiencies, how he’s not quick enough, or fast enough or athletic enough or whatever. Yet who ran this offense to the tune of five Chips? And how have other, faster, more athletic PG’s fared on this team?
For all his flaws and shortcomings, Fish just fits this team and this system like…pardon the reference, but it helps make my point…like a glove.
Chris Paul, with all his talents, with all his accolades, simply would not.
Chris Paul is awesome, but this system works and it works with the players that are in it.
And that’s all I have to say about that.

    • LC09

well fu kin said dude…really tho these kids on here wana trade bynum for paul come on thats jus a retarded a$$ move…no need to fu k up da team

      • KRILL

tru, but you still shouldn’t pass cp3 like he was a nobody.. he’s a top 3 pg in this league and an all star for years to come.. and its intriguing.

        • 242LakerFan

Very, and I have to admit I sat down and thought long and hard about it, but to me, it’s not worth essentially breaking a system that has worked to the tune of 7 Finals in the last 11 years.

          • KRILL

I agree but you wouldn’t be killing the system, matter fact you’d be amending it, but not changing it.. and great players know how to adapt, plain and simple.. and is a smart player and for okafer and you still get cp3, greatest trade ever. I dont think having bynum or not really affects, as long as you get a rebounder and reset the offense so cp3 can git it inside.. I don’t see the problem here, okafer is still a great young center, smart 1 too.. not lengthy like bynum but cp3 would add another dimension that won’t require twin towers to pound pound pound, it’d be a lil bit more kobe cp3 oriented which isn’t bad yo, phil would love the challenge

          • 242LakerFan

Call me conservative, but there’s just too many “ifs” in there.

          • LEADERFISH

way too many if’s there Krill. lol

        • KRILL

I respect your opinion. Cp3 would be hungry, bynum was never really hungry and barely helped only did get us the no.1 seed, but what team with a legit C and kobe can’t do that? Cob been doing it well since the late 90s anyway.. so he couldn’t make Okafer a better player? went 2 3 straight finals with an injure plagued bynum .. shiid.. Im not hating the guy im breaking it down tho.. Colby did it with Shaq and got us 3 titles.. Okafer wont learn da systum? Doubt it highly call MR O reilly

          • 242LakerFan

I bet this conversation is happening right now in the Lakers FO. LOL

          • LEADERFISH

Lakers FO is on vacation now.

  • Lakers_The_Truth

CP3 would be great but we just can’t afford. Nobody wants Luke or Sasha and I hardly see Bynum leaving or Odom.

  • lakerfan_4ever

trade Bynum?…trade D-Fish? …are you guys serious? if it wasn’t for these 2 guys we’ll be seen green all over the place right now…..if a trade it’s possible,I will trade Odom ,Sasha’s expiring contract and a future first round for CP3…that’s the only way I can see it working…then we can play:

    PG D-Fish/Paul
    G/SG Kobe/Blake/Brown
    SF Artest/Ebanks/Walton
    PF Gasol/Character
    C Bynum/MBenga

yeah our bench will be undersized but we are talking about a young ALL STAR PG here…but Bynum, believe it or not, is the difference between a championship caliber team and just a good solid team…you think I’m lying? so why the Heat was so desperate to sign Ilgauskas? ’cause they know that championships are won in the paint and that was the missing piece of the puzzle to match up against us….

CP3 is a smart player that can run any system,I don’t have any doubt that he will be a perfect fit in the triangle offense…he makes average players look like All Stars.Remember 2 years ago when the Hornets almost made it to the Finals? That season,Tyson Chandler and David West had career numbers…so I definitely see CP3 having a positive impact if he plays for the Lakers…..

    • LbC Ya562

I dont think the Heat were “Desperate” to sign Ilgauskas… I think he wanted to be there more then the WANTED him…. Yea they WANTED him but he took a pay cut from a team that has been pretty good to him to take less money….. To be with Lebron “Ringless” James

  • iiTzDanny
    • Schism

F.Y.I… No team is going to take Luke Walton in any trade scenario, unless he promises to retire for a salary dump, and why would Walton walk away from $17M?
This isn’t Fantasy Basketball. You can’t dump unwanted players, and expect the trade partner to accept Laker leftovers. For CP3, say goodbye to two of combinations from Gasol / Bynum / Odom/ Artest / and/or maybe Sasha. Then the Lakers will have too many guards, and no Frontcourt, plus what type of chemistry would the team have?

      • KRILL

3 way trade: Blazers get Okafer, and Posey, Lakers get Christopher to the 3 + 1st round draft picks, Horns get Bynum, Sasha, and Rudy Fernandez. WIN WIN WIN.

        • Schism

          So the starting 5 are….
          C.Paul / Kobe (G’s)
          Artest / Odom (F’S)
          Gasol (C)

          That leaves a 2nd team of…
          Fish / Blake (G’s)
          Ebanks / Walton (F’s)
          Caracter (C)

Sounds like a good bench to me!!!!!

Besides, The Horns are gonna give away both CP3 AND Okafer plus draft picks? for Bynum/ Sasha/ and RUDY FERNANDEZ????

          I’m sorry for the sarcasm!

          • KRILL

they still have cap relief rite.. oh and I meant not draft picks, they get draft picks we give em out, sorry for not clearing it up before.. but yeah Orleans does get cap relief and draft pick considerations and possibly an ebanks or caracter, you still got odom off the bench with okafer startin hows that bad.. apparently people think bynum was needed so much that gasol didnt need to tip in in the 6th game vs the thunder.. you could make the case the lakers coulda lost that series, if gas man didnt tip that in, thunder woulda crushed laker land and everybody woulda broken the team down.. add in the fact that heat will continue to add pieces and get younger.. so yeah and NYK could both get mello and cp3 still yo.. why not upgrade rite now, phil never had a pg like cp3, what better way to show pj some love by adding a smart defending pg (top pg defender in the league no question).

  • Althelakerfanyoushouldmeet

CP3 removed the Lakeshow from the teams he would consider.

    • KRILL

I wanna hear from Stephen A Smith yo.. Toby Broussard etc.. who cares, then his inner circle was double talkin, like turkey talk bisnutz. But I dont know it’s still an option and they can get stuff for cp3. Bynum 3rd best american center, legit.. only knock on him his injury proneness. CP3 with Gasol+Kobe+Artest is still a great team, with Ebanks’ length and Odom, Fisher’s expo- and the Mamba Samba Zen Jackson.. still good with Okafer c’mon yo, you can’t tell me effing Bynum will make that hell of a difference in the finals, playoffs yo.. Gasol tipped it in, and Artest tipped one in in games 6 and 5, straight up yo.. seriously I think some of yyall are overplaying this length thang.. size etc.. which is true, but you still got cp3 who can knock em out cold.. you got CP3 going interior to Pau, then back to Cob or Artie, or Fisher f0 da flush.. keep it real man.

  • KRILL

If the Lakers get Okafer SHIIIID. I’d do it.. for CP3 and luke walton, and bynum (you get rid of lukes bloated ass contract) sasha, The good outweighs the bad in that case future prospects still in place you dont give em up, and you get cp3, the lakers don’t need to make any trades for years.. Okafer is -2mill less than Bynum. SHIIDDD I’d do it. Right Fellas?

    • KRILL

I mean damn, Bynum, is like a great young prospect pitcher rite.. but cp3 is the clutch manny ramirez in his prime.. so bynum would be like a doc holilday.. basically lakers could turn into the boston redsox before they went 2 4 2. Lakers rite now are like 1 player away from winning it all again, rite, like Texas made that splash with Cliff lee

  • harmony_smurf

This is easy, you give up Bynum ( Great potential and finally the man on a team ), Sasha (expiring contract, money off the books which the Hornets are looking for ) for Paul. Lakers are a better team when Odom and Pau are on the floor together anyways. Remember they were shopping Bynum pre-injury, mid-season because he and Pau weren’t effective together on the floor. You guys just don’t get it! When the Lakers got another all-star (Gasol) with Kobe we have been to 3 straight finals, mostly with-out the services of Bynum who has really just been a role player on this team. By adding an unbelievable player like Paul, it would send the Lake show into the next stratosphere!

  • http://thelakersnation.com alex

alright this is how its gonna go. Odom,Sasha,Walton to and a couple of 2011 draft picks for CP3.

    • KRILL

Hope, but I think Bynum is a go go.. Besides CP3 *only* averages lke 10 Assists per game in his crappy ass team.. I mean he would only add weapons to the team.. isn’t the triangle systum predicated on moving the fricken ball anyway? I think I just nailed this whole argument but IDK.. I still contend this is a better move for us down the road.. Like I said, I will repeat it again, Colby and artest in the team and Gasol .. you still have 2 big guys.. people keep going back to 08 about the celtics.. keep riding that pipedream, the lakers wouldn’t have won that series if Bynum was at 1,000% probly they just had 0 heart how else do lose by 38 points in a finals game? And b’sides, that was THEN, teams are further equipped to attack the length the Lakers posses.. if the L akers think 30 steps ahead, they can nail this, Okafer is a damn beast inside anyway shidd idk what this “salary” is really.. $50 mil bucks for 5 and you still win 3 titles.. then u got 2 years with okafer developing with Colby and cp3.. You still got Gasol inside best big man ever

      • KRILL

Am I not getting something.. CP3 is a smart player, how does he not adapt yo.. just run a high pick and roll triangle set for him like rajon did, and hit it to colby for the flush.

  • http://www.myspace.com/guszo gus26

chris bursaurd is saying the lakers are not one of the teams paul wnats to go to…
an orlando pinstiped post is reporting the magic are ” post to lose their first player to free agency, as it looks like Matt Barnes is headed to the L.A. Lakers on a one-year deal worth $1.7 million”

    • KRILL

So Lakesh0w get the BGIZZLE which is gewd, so u still got D side off the bench.. Okafer D mean inside, CP3 compesnates height with his quicker than quick-sand hand movement ball stealin lookin A. Get cp3 yo seroiusly it’s not that hard.. Okafer is still a big, could get playas in quick foul trouble and be intimidating inside, he’d stop lebron from just rolling by him.. And if it’s a dunn deal, decizuhn, then welcome to EL-EY BARNEY.

    • http://www.myspace.com/guszo gus26

ok now the chris paul story of not wanting lakers is on hoopshype and the barnes story is on yahoo..

  • AestheticFlavor

It would be a DREAM come true, if he came to LA! Please, CP3, come play at the Staples Center with Kobe and the rest of the gang!

  • NBAmazkingKB24

As much as I love CP3
Point guard can be easily drafted. A very talented point guard. Maybe not like CP3, a franchise player… but we can draft a good point guard or sign a good/great point guard next season if we have to.

But to draft a good/decent center is almost impossible. I don’t want to say impossible… but what i am trying to say is …it is much more difficult to draft a center then a point guard in the NBA
I can only think about a handfull of great big mens out there in NBA. We got 3 out of the handfull Bigs. Bynum, Pau, and L.O.

Bynum will be a franchise center for Lakers.

(But if there is a way to put cp3 in lakers uniform w/o giving our bigs… damn…. yep im a greedy Lakers Fan. If Mitch can find a way to bring CP3 like we brought Gasol, lol do it Mitch! I can dream right?)

But anyways for me its Definately:
    CENTER > POINT GUARD
Great teams with great big mens wins championship.
Thats how the Lakers franchise won so many titles.
    So don’t start changing things.

  • http://thelakersnation.com alex

if cp3 does come to l.a that would be awesome but we cant give up Bynum. In 2008 when Bynum was not there did they win, NO. IN 2009 THEY WON WITH HIM SAME THING IN 2010. YEA HE WUZ INJURED AND ALL BUT IT STILL MAKES A DIFFERENCE IF HE IS IN THE PAINT OR NOT. BYNUM IS A RISING STAR, HE IS ONE OF FEW YOUNG LAKER PLAYERS. HE THE ONE WHO MAKES THE DIFFERENCE. IF LAKERS ARE GONNA MAKE A DEAL IT SHOULD BE CP3 AND OKAFOR FOR BYNUM,ODOM,SASHA,WALTON AND A COUPLE OF DRAFT PICK FOR NEXT YEAR. THAT WAY THE DONT PUT TO MUCH PRESSURE ON PAU GASOL.IT WILL TAKE OKAFOR TIME TO GET TO KNOW THE LAKER SYSTEM BUT HE WILL GET IT. BUT THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM, IF LAKERS GET CP3 I DONT THINK FISHER WILL BE A LEADER ANYMORE AND CP3 IS YOUNG FOR THAT RESPONSIBILITY, MABEY KOBE IS A LEADER, AND CP3 IS ALSO A GUY WHO NEEDS TO HAVE THE BALL AT ALL TIMES, KOBE USSUALLY IS THE GUY WHO HAVES THE BALL. BUT LAKERS CAN SOLVE THOSE PROBLEMS SOMEHOW. WHAT ABOUT SHANNON. HE HASENT SIGHNED A CONTRACT. HE MAKES THE LAKERS YOUNG, IT WOULD BE COOL IS CHRIS COMES TO L.A BUT WHAT ABOUT T-MAC. IF T-MAC COME TO LA, AND GIVES U 15 PPG AND 4 AST THATS ALL LAKERS NEED. I THINK T-MAC IS A BETTER OPTION CUZ HE AND L.O CAN COME OF THE BENCH FOR BYNUM AND FISHER. KOBE PLAYS SF AND TRACY PLAYS SG AND L.O CAN PLAY POINT GUARD CUZ HE CAND PLAY 4 POSITIONS, PF,SF,SG,PG. THAT WOULD BE THE BEST FOR THE CHAMPS.

  • http://www.kevinsmoore.com Moorepower310

I wonder why CP3 didn’t put OKC on his list.

  • Celtics Suck Salty Nuts

I understand that the team could be worse off by giving up either Bynum or Odom, but the upside of receiving Paul may compensate for that loss as well.

Sure, you lose size and low post scoring, but you gain one of the greatest PGs of all time that can steal and blow by any other guard in the league. Paul’s defense and slashing ability mean that Kobe will have to handle the ball and play less defense, thus saving his energy for scoring and 4th quarters.

The last point that I have is perhaps the most important one that not many people have thought of. If you let an already existing title contender win him over, what would this mean for LA? Can this city really withstand an onslaught by DHoward, VC, Lewis, Paul, and their 3 pt shooters all at once? Really, with all that drive and kick when Paul sucks in the whole defense and disorients it?

  • LAKERBOY55

I think if the Laker FO wants it they can make it happen. My question is if Paul actually mentioned the Lakers as one of his choices.

ESPN and these punk analysts like Chris Broussard mentions Knicks, Magic, Blazers, and Mavericks… but not L.A.

It’s already known (in my mind) that ESPN are a bunch of LAKER haters and only give credit when they have no choice but to give credit. It’s not surprising that ESPN would hide facts in order to sell their biases (A LA SKIP BAYLESS).

Anyway, someone here please clarify that CP3 actually said Lakers as one of his choices. I do know he wanted to go to a contender (FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP). So I have no clue why Broussard says Knicks, Portland, or Dallas (WTF?)

But if not the Lakers, I would root for him to join Amare at NY but only if Carmelo joins them.

  • Clues

    Luke, Sasha & ????? LOL

  • Yong

I’m no Lakers fan but shouldn’t you guys stick with the squad you have right now? Being diehard Lakers fans, you guys should have more confidence in your players and hope that they will keep improving especially with the 3 of them in Miami. Team chemistry is there already. CP3 is good but I don’t think your team needs a superstar scoring point guard.

  • http://thelakersnation.com alex

i think its unlikely that cp3 iz coming 2 lakers

  • KMizzale

Well CP3 is a 6’0 Magic Johnson in the making.. Ill give the Lakers and CP3 the benefit of the doubt if they pulled this thing off. Mitch would be dumb to not even call up and at least sell the idea of: Odom+Sasha picks, and possibly Andrew.. OFC they would not sign on the trade but they’d have fun just talking about it. When Kobe tried to get traded those other teams, namely, the Bulls were giving us some, at the time, decent players (now just role players) and not in any way were GREAT players for Kobe. So anything can happen in the heat of the action. But to just dismiss the trade, and not talk about it? Get all arrogant? pretty dumb .. a CP3 like player only comes into the league every few years, and a situation like this, almost NEVER. that’s right.. N-E-V-E-R, yet. Low chance of happening so..

  • mexican mamba

look just trade andrew sasha and walton for cp3 and emeka okafor because lamar is a vercitle big man that can run the floor and he still has enough size and we also have theo ratliff as a back up center who is 7 feet plus emeka okafor.
