We came across this image of what seems to be the album cover of Chick’s album… more specifically, a rap album. A little history on this album. This ‘album’ (if you want to call it that) was released in 2004, along with the book of his memoirs. This isn’t an album where he would take the mic and sing or rap, but instead would take the mic and call the Laker games.

This CD is full of the phrases he would use when he called the games, labeled “Chickisms”. For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, take this as an example “This game’s in the refrigerator: the door is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter’s getting hard, and the Jell-O’s jigglin’!” which means the game’s outcome is set (for those that don’t understand the lingo).

However, there is a song on the CD, titled ‘Chick Hearn Rap-Around’. It featured the Chickisms mixed together to make a rap song, which (if you listened to Chick broadcast Laker games) isn’t such a bad song even though it doesn’t have him say any words directly for the song.

I hope somebody is putting this on iTunes or at least making it available at the Lakers on-line store! I want a copy!!!

    i have this.
i’m surprised this is a secret to the lakers nation.
it wasn’t published that long ago.
    and it’s CHICK!!

i bought it primarily for the cd, actually. so i could hear his classic calls. i think it’s narrated by Al Michaels and goes through his classic calls.

don’t know how to put it up or nothing though.

Well, six years ago, I wasn’t so jacked in to the Laker Nation and I don’t know if that was released or publicized very widely outside the LA area.
      I live in The Bahamas.
So from my perspective, not so much of a surprise.
Glad I’ve heard about it now, though. I really miss that voice!
