ESPN has finally completed the 2012 NBA Player Rankings, and Dwight Howard received top honors for the Lakers at #3 behind only LeBron and Durant. Kobe moved up one spot from last year and is ranked #6. Gasol dropped 4 spots from last year and is ranked #15, while Nash dropped 5 spots from last year and is ranked #19. [...]

Backup point guard Steve Blake will be out for approximately three weeks after stepping on a “spike strip” in a parking lot, puncturing his foot in the process. According to Kevin Ding of the OC Register, Howard visited the practice facility in El Segundo and had his first hands-on session with Lakers athletic trainer Gary Vitti and head physical therapist Judy Seto.   According to Lakers.com, the Lakers have officially hired Eddie Jordan, Steve Clifford and Bernie Bickerstaff to assist Head Coach Mike Brown this upcoming season. Eddie Jordan (pictured above) will be the face of the Lakers implementation of the Princeton offense.  He will be taking over the role of Coach Kuester, who has now been assigned as a scout on [...]

Lakers signed their second round, 60th pick from the 2012 Draft, F/C Robert Sacre.  Sacre averaged over 9 points per game at Gonzaga (11.6 as a senior), and was named 2012 WCC Defensive Player of the Year. Sacre will be a big body for “Dwight Insurance” if his back isn’t ready to start the season.

Earlier last week, Dwight Howard tweeted that he wanted to work with the NBA’s All time leading scorer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Just a couple days later, the two of them finally met. Earlier this week it was announced that HOF Center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar would have a statue erected in Star Plaza this coming season.  The unveiling is expected to occur November 16, 2012 when the Lakers host the Phoenix Suns.
