Great blogging/article on Jerry Buss and the state of the team:

Lakers Blog (K. Ding): There were only eight people in that meeting room on Oct. 8 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel: three reporters, two public-relations reps, Jerry Buss, some hot chick who came along with Buss (predictable) and some non-hot non-chick who came along with Buss (inexplicable!). As one of those reporters, I feel obligated – especially in light of the Lakers’ arresting victories over Phoenix and Utah since you left the office Friday evening – to remind that being open to trading Kobe Bryant wasn’t the only thing Buss said in that room.

He also said he believed this Lakers team was better than the one that started last season 26-13. He predicted at least 50 regular-season victories.

And with that level of achievement, Buss opined that the Lakers would then be “definitely a contender” for the NBA championship this season.

The upshot of becoming “definitely a contender” is that perhaps Bryant would then want to stay.

“I would hope so,” Buss said. “I would hope that he feels more comfortable if we get a few playoff victories under our belt.”

All this is worth bringing up not just because there’s so much mass-devoured misinformation being transmitted at countless megabits per second when it comes to the topic of trading Bryant. It’s also because the Lakers are playing so well right now that there is reason to believe that Buss’ aforementioned dream could even come true.

After watching the past 3 games… I quickly thought in my mind with all the distractions surrounding the Lakers … that “WINNING CHANGES EVERYTHING”… Let me tell you guys that if we start to become a threat in the West this year… KOBE IS GONNA BE A LAKER FOR LIFE!!! .. “WINNING CHANGES EVERYTHING” !!!!

So this means we’re not going to do anything anymore before the trade deadline? No J.O. or whatever? I’m still not 100% sure that this team is a championship caliber team. Sure we’re looking promising, but not there yet. Next season, with an add of the vets in free agency, then we’ll be ballin.

Leave it to Buss to bring a hooker to a meeting with reporters!!! Classic Buss…

Now remember, this is the smart one. This is the classy Buss. Just imagine what Jr. is up to. How do you get rid of the Logo for these cast of characters? I’ll never know.

I really hope that degenerate gambler sells the team.

if this season is progressive enough to the point where the lakers can potentially become a playoff threat and win some playoff games, i wouldnt worry about trading kobe. i think if the lakers keep on pace with what they have done thus far, even though its still early, it will give the lakers more hope of the future with bryant as the focal point and not with another team. perhaps, if the lakers show dramatic improvement since the previous 3 years, the lakers may be able to entice the veterans and potential all-star players who become free agents next offseason to join with the lakers.

Keep24 – Lest you forget that Jerry Buss Sr. (the degernate gambler as call him) is responsible for 8 World Championships since he purchase the team back in 1979. Let me also remind you that the Logo did not want Phil Jackson as coach back in the 1999-2000 season. It was Jerry Buss’ decision to hire him.

Let me also remind you that Jerry Buss was the man that instructed the Logo to bring L.A. Shaquille O’Neal at any cost when Shaq was a free agent in 1996. Yes, the logo did great things like recruiting Kobe and ultimately getting credit for having traded him, of course Kobe and his agent, back in 1996 told the New Jersey Nets, who at that time had the 8th selection in the draft, that if they drafted Kobe, he would go play in Italy, so Kobe fell to the 13th pick (maybe the logo was lucky).

Don’t also forget Jerry Buss was the man that stuck by Kobe during his Colorado ordeal (of course Kobe would have liked a nicer private jet, he even said so). Don’t also forget Jerry Buss was the man that choose Kobe over Shaq – I guess that may have been his biggest gamble considering Shaq has gone on to win another championship without Kobe.

…And if the Lakers do go on to win 50+ games and make a dent in the playoffs, well the “degenrate gambler” might have pulled off his greatest gamble – Making this Laker team a contender.

Dr. Buss (whats his Ph.D. in anyways? Chemistry or soemthing I think) has gotten very lucky since he bought the Lakers. The stupid Owner of the cavs (they made a rule about trading draft choices because he was such an incompetent moron) traded the lakes a #1 draft choice that became Worthy (some people forget just how good he was), they already had the draft pick that became magic and Kareem forced his way to LA. He did a good job in getting the Logo as GM, but it was West that made cap space for Shaq, it was West that recruited Kobe and got him for Vlade (that has got to be one of the dumbest trades ever). Yes it was Buss who payed the bills but I think most of it was Jerry West standing up to Buss and making him do what West wanted to do.

Now I think Jackson is doing the same thing. I think it was Jackson who prompted Kobe to say “do something and do it now”. It almost blew up in his face but, I think he was trying to get some of the choices to run through him and not just Buss Jr. According to Lazenby Jackson has a lot of control with the Lakers while maintaing Little Jimmy Buss’s ego. I could be wrong about this but Lazenby insights tend to be correct.

If you have noticed JO still hasnt played a game this year and his team has started out 3-0. I think Indiana will be more and more open to trading him as the season goes on. I think he ends up in NJ making them an instant title contender. I like what he brings but he is way too overpaid and injury prone for the lakers to give up too much for him. At this point i would not give up Bynum for him. A deal with Lamar Odom and another role player i suppose would work for us, but why would Indiana do that, they want Bynum which is a dealbreaker.

This is a great post from Ding. Everybody chirped and chirped about what Buss said this summer and called him and old fool who had lost it. Well if we go back and read it now (which Ding is pointing out) we see that Buss knew exactly what he was talking about. I see this team starting out with a reasonably good record (given their tough schedule early) and finishing the year strong. I predict a number 4 seed in the west making them the Utah of this season going further than everyone expected. It is early but this team is going to be a heck of alot better than last years if they stay healthy. Props to Ding for showing us exactly what Buss was talking about that day in October.

I think its time for you to get your nose out of the crap that Kobe’s been serving and wake up to reality (whahhh Jerry Buss is liar, WHAHHH). Do you think Jerry Buss likes to lose??? If you do, not only have been smelling the crap that Kobe is serving, you’re also eating it too.

Jerry Buss is the boss. He approves and disapproves of ALL player transactions, not Jerry West, or any GM for that matter. Jerry Buss did have a championship team but becuase of Kobe’s selfish a**, and his statement of “I don’t want to be a sidekick anymore” (read Phil’s book), he basically ran off Phil and Shaq. It was his first year alone that he then realized he needed a quality coach. In the second year, Kobe’s team had a 3-1 on the Suns and in Game 7, Kobe just laid down.

Last year, the Lakers were 26-13 and to quote Hubie Brown after Friday’s victory over the Suns “injuries destroyed their season”. If the Lakers had not had injuries last year, would they have been seeded higher? No one will be able to answer this.

Now, the Lakers are off to a decent start (its still too early to tell), but if the Lakers are a 50+ team that does damage in the playoffs, then Buss, the greatest sports owner of all time, will have the last laugh and tell you, Kobe and all Kobe followers (not real Laker fans might I add), “I told you we had a team that could compete”.

By the way, I never said the Logo left because of Phil, however, it is well known that West and Phil never got along and it is also well known that West DID NOT want Phil as a coach, (the late great Chick Hearn even said so). Also, you give a little too much credit to the Logo. Yes he cleared cap space in order to get Shaq, but it was at the DEMAND OF THE LAKERS OWNER – JERRY BUSS who again ordered West to bring Shaq.

Foxxy…I can hear kobe calling you..he needs his shoes cleaned..off you go..did he just say you missed a spot….your a joke..what team do you run

Cut it out guy’s, the Lakers are gona show the world that they mean bussines. This means Kobe is going to stay! and LO is gona get healthy and boost up an already 1 billion% more healthy team then last year. It’s realy too early to tell, but i dont think we need a trade anymore. So far everybody has responded to Kobe’s challenge of working harder and the high level of work ethic that Kobe is used to.Umm maybe not Cook but, hopefully he’ll get there.SO EVERYONE PLEASE BE OPTIMISTIC, NEXT YEAR’S FREE AGENT MARKET IS REALLY BIG WE JUST NEED TO BE PATIENT AND MITCH NEED’S TO BE VERY AGGRESSIVE…GO LAKERS!!!
