In our last challenge, most members were very eager to get rid of our young players without being concerned about the future of our team. Swapping our young and promising talents for older and more experienced players does not guaranty instant success.

It’s easy to showoff your knowledge with household names like Jermaine O’Neal, Ron Artest, Jason Kidd and C.Webb. It’s easy to build an All-Star team around Kobe on the paper. But how much do you know about young talents? In 1996, Jerry West brought Shaq to LA and everybody applauded him, but West also traded his starting center, Vlade Divac to the Hornets for the young Kobe Bryant (1996 13th pick.). It takes the ingenuity of “The Logo” to build a contender team.

Today, Lakers are lost somewhere between their glorious past, disorientated present and uncertain future. They have the best player on the planet and don’t know what to do with him. They have surrounded him with some experienced players like Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom, as well as young talents like Andrew Bynum and Javaris Crittenton. But is that enough to build a future and appease Kobe at the same time?

This challenge is about assembling a contender team to appease Kobe and have a chance to win now, and at the same time, you must add young talents to be contender in future as well. You must follow these rules to participate in this challenge…

1. Your proposal has to secure the future of the franchise while appeasing Kobe.
2. All trades must comply with NBA and CBA trade regulations
3. Support your ideas with facts but please keep it under 60-70 words (4-5 lines)
4. Do not spend more than $5-Mil in luxury taxes
5. The word “FINAL” must be on top of your final proposal to be reviewed.
6. Identify yourself on top of the post, for example: “This is Larry Bird at Pacers”
7. Only proposals with a link to a trade machine will be accepted and reviewed. If you’re trading for an unsigned agent, it would be difficult to use the machine, just post names of your outgoing and incoming players.
8. This challenge will end on September 8 and the winner will be announced 2 days later.
9. You can also suggest keeping the present roster. Just post a comment and tell us why.
10. Do not trade Kobe.

You may also counter those offers made by the Lakers by identifying yourself as the owner or GM of the other team on top of your posts.

Competent owners build a team to be contender now while embedding young talents in the roster to be contender in future as well. Thus, we will award the winner with the Certificate of General Manager of the Month, issued by the TheLakersNation, for the month of September.

Many people participated in our last challenge because it was easy just to drop some household names like JO, Artest, J.Kidd and C. Webb into trade machine and post a link with the results.

Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful for your overwhelming response to our last challenge, and we received some very impressive trade proposals. The winner deserves every bit of the credit received.

But we will always ask for more and we will keep raising the bar; this is a very difficult task and even the most experienced GM’s and owners have difficulties with this mission. It will cost you many trips to references. It takes knowledge, high basketball IQ and ingenuity. And that is the reason we are giving you until September 8th to get the job done.

You have nothing to lose, its’ free and a lot fun, and most importantly it’s educating. Have Fun

We will judge your offers and roster lineup by the following criteria:
1-Securing the future of the team: 3 points
2-Having a contender team on the floor now: 3 points
3-Practicality, is your offer attractive to other team: 2 points
4-Simplicity, number of teams and players involved: 2 Points
Total points available points for each offer: 10 points

ok

here is my scenario

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=&teams=&te=&cash=30:13~13:30

ok, our lineup would look like this

DFish/jordan farmar/javaris crittenton
kobe bryant/mo evans/sasha
luke walton/vladimir radmonivic/ mo evans
lamar odom/ronny turiaf/ brian cook
kwame brown/ andrew bynum/ chris mihm

this means we have two sides
now: we have the best player in the world in kobe bryant, enough to get any team into the playoffs, dfish, and point guard who can make the open shot, and can shut down a point guard on defense, lamar odom, a person who when hot can make a three pointer in rythym, post it up, and deadly when he drives to the basket.

future: heading off the future, andrew bynum, and back to the basket center, who is the a developing center who is learning hook shots, when he masters the sky hook, and does it in a game, every coach in the nba will shoot themselves, ronny turiaf, he is the wild card, he can make the mid range shot, post up, plus has good hands, jordan farmar, this is our kid, he is a classic point guard, with good pass skills, he drives to the basket and gives you a tear drop, and can make the three, mo evans, and athletic beast, who can make the three pointer, do a fall away post shot, and give the athletic play, javaris crittenton, a player with a baron davis body and post up, with the shooting touch of chauncy billups, he is a drive first point guard, who makes the open shot, and has run the triangle before.

as you see, this is a very simple trade, and gives us a good mix of future and now.

as my good friend carlos mencia would say “D D D”

• Lakers724

I say we do this trade:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=981~1031~3002~2421~2753~25~3000&teams=23~30~23~30~13~13~13&te=&cash=30:13
If we do this trade, we get potential point guards in Crittenton & Felton, sky high potential in Bynum, and a multi-talented guy in a energized Turiaf, along with defensive talent in Artest and a 3rd scoring option. Bobcats get a very athletic, able to shoot the 3, can play 1 0n 1 D Mo Evans, a spot up shooter in Vujacic, and cash from the Lakers. While we get Artest & Felton, we have to pay the price by giving up Kwame, Farmar & a 1st round pick. But I still belive this is the “Trade of the Present & Future”!

• fatty

Hey Mitch (lakers724)

This is PJ.

Your killing me Mitch. I need guards who can run the triangle and you want to trade Farmar and Sasha. That leaves me Fish with the only one with any experience. If Fish’s family needs him for any length of time the Lakers would be in trouble.

By the way, nice tan. I wished you spent as much time working on the Lakers, as you did on your getting a tan this summer.

• cyrus

One more hint,

Marc Gasol and Sun Yue, Lakers’ unsigned draft picks, could be considered as well; they are not signed; so you may sign them or trade the rights to other teams.

I never thought the day would come where the fans would have to play the role of Laker management and the Lakers management would play the role of the fans ( just sitting idle and waiting for the season to start)!!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you guys see Kobe shut down Barbosa? On a team where everyone is a star, Kobe stands alone as a Superstar !!!

He looks like like the same eager and hungry kid that we saw when he came into the league.

I hope that Dr. Buss has a TV in his mansion and has the opportunity to see what it would feel like if Kobe played for another team.

• lakaluva

Im gonna really shake things up!!!

Ok,Lakers send Kobe, Cook, Farmhar, Sasha to the Suns.

The Suns send Marion, Barbosa, Bell, Banks, and that 2008 first round lottery pick that the suns got from Atlanta to the Lakers.

Lakers send Bynum, Kwame, Luke, Vlad, and that 2008 1st round pick they got from Suns.

Now lets analyze this… The lakers would appease Kobe by sending him to a contending team that is more like his style of play. They also include proven shooters in Sasha and Cook who will thrive under Nash, and a good scrappy point guard in Farmhar who will benefit from playing with Nash. The Suns will take this trade in a heartbeat… why… because KOBE IS A MAVS AND SPURS KILLER!!!

The Suns lineup would look like:
Nash/Farmhar
Kobe/Sasha
Grant Hill/James Jones
Diaw/Cook
Amare/fill in the blank

Of course the suns would have to find a back up center since they let Kurt thomas go. Chris Webber would love to play with this suad!!!

The Pacers lineup would look like:
Tinsley/Diener
Grainger/Marquies Daniels/Kareem Rush
Luke Walton/Vlad/Dunleavy
Ike Diogu/Troy Murphy/Jeff Foster
Bynum/Kwame

Plus they will have the 1st round pick that the Suns got from Atlanta, the Lakers got from the Suns, and now to Indiana. The kicker is Kwame’s 9mil. contract is up next year and they have that 1st round lottery pick for next year. They get a center in Bynum who will dominate in the east and and all they gave up was Oneal!!! Bird will break his back to get this deal done!!!

The Lakers lineup will look like:
Fisher/Critt/Banks
Bell/Barbosa
Marion/Mo Evans
Odom/Turiaf
Oneal/Mihm

Our defense will be stiffling!!! You have three point shooters in Fish, Bell, Barbosa, Marion, Critt. Odom can stay in the paint where he likes it. You have Barbosa, Mo, Critt, Turiaf, Mihm coming off the bench, which gives us the best bench in the leaugue by far!!! Oh… did I forget to mention we would have Oneal in the middle giving us 20/10 every night plus block shots and good defense!!! This would make us the favorite to be championship contenders for the next 6 years!!!

The trades were successful on http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trademachine
but it would allow me to add the Lottery pick and Walton due to his new contract. Once the season starts that would work. Mitch would wake up and fall off his log for this trade.

All three teams improved drastically and the league would benefit greatly from this excitment!!!

• lakaluva

Excuse the error when I forgot to say that we were sending our players to the Pacers for Oneal.

• keep24

Lakaluva,

Are you somehow related to Mitch or Dr. Buss?

Trade Kobe? Really???

your trade sounds very similar to the Shaq trade we had three years ago, which ended up being Shaq for Kwame and Odom.

• http://www.myspace.com/dbricks DBricks

Asemble a team to appease Kobe and have him confident they can win now! Im preety sure that wouldnt mean sending him to the suns. The goal of this challenge is to give the LAKERS a sufficent make-over to appease Kobe and both make since for the future? Maybe Im wrong but I believe the jist fo the challenge is to make the Lakers better with Kobe as the main piece?

wait, you are trading kobe for barbosa here? Marion, Bell, Banks are players that won’t get it done, banks just can’t play, bell just is as well as i know a one dimensional player, and marion, not really good at anything really. that leaves us with barbosa, if you knew anything about basketball, you would know that kobe for those few players, you must literally, I mean literally be crazy, how much crack have you been smoking?

Kobe/mo evans/coby karl

Carlie villuevia/Turiaf/rodamvic
bynum/Yi/Mihmm

That your line up which has so much deep to help the lakers win a championship

Milwakee would take this deal because yi doesnt want to play with them so therefore they get kwamebrown a expired contract get a young farmer and the we take on simmons contract and they get shasa a expiring contract.

This in my heart make the lakers good. so say we play are rival suns will have nash on dfish, bell on kobe, marion on Lo/diaw on charlie/amare on yi or bynum We win the matchup because of kobe Lo and charlie. What your guys opion?

in order for this to work JO needs to demand a trade to LA which he would if kobe would just call his ass, geeze.
#2
sign c webb and sasha pavlovic using the vets minimum and 5 mill of luxury tax. THey’d be drawn to all this new added talent and want to sign.
#3
trade cook for 1st round picks to a bad team such as charlotte or memphis who need good shooters.
Lineup:
fish/critt/etc
kobe/pavlovic
odom/luke
cwebb/yi/etc
JO/mihm/etc

Kobe is happy b/c of JO and veteran leadership in cwebb and we got rid of kwame. AND the future is bright w/ yi, pav, critt, ronny, etc, plus a grip of picks.

How to calculate the salary of an unsigned player:
For example; Yi Lianjian:

Yi has not been signed as of now and no salary has been determined for Yi. If you’re trading for YI, calculate his salary with $2.75Mil. This is how I calculated that:
5th draft pick; Jeff Green (Seattle)- $3.06Mil
7th draft pick; Corey Brewer (Minnesota)- $2.5Mil
Yi salary, as 6th draft pick, would be the average between 5 and 7 = $2.75 Mil

You can’t use the trade machine for that, just post the the outgoing and incoming players. Thanks

So in this trade, Bobcats get a spot up shooter, Lakers 1st round pick in 09 and cash. Kings get a very athletic Mo Evans, young Kwame Brown, and the Lakers 1st round pick in 08. The Lakers get Felton, whom in the future, with the experience of the Triangle, could be a very great facilitator for the Lakers to help Farmar, Bynum & Turiaf in the future. Artest to help them now and get the Lakers to appease Kobe, and Douby to balance out the salaries!

• LA All The Way

Hey Cyrus… just one question about the challenge.

Can I send more than 1 proposal, or just 1

• cyrus

Billy Kupchak,

I agree with you, it’s kind of wishful thinking. However, it would be smarter to support your claim with some facts; this is how I would put it:

“Pacers would never accept 4 year contract of Vladimir Radmanovic with $25-Mil remaining and Bobby Simmons 3 years contract at $28-Mil.”

You can add other facts such as player’s stats to your claim as well. Thanks

• http://cokespill.com/english/band/jonny.html joninjapan

people just remember to put FINAL on the top once the final day comes otherwise your trade, however amazing, doesn’t qualify

• http://cokespill.com/english/band/jonny.html joninjapan

other than that, keep up the good work

• TonyStarks79

Final Draft:

Mr. Buss,

I recently spoke with the owner of Milwaukee and they wanna trade their first round pick Yi Jianlan. They wanna make a blockbuster trade that also includes injury prone Charlie Villanueva and Bobby Simmons. Keep in mind that Charlie V. and Bobby Simmons when healthy are really solid basketball players. I am going to do this trade because it will help us now and also pretty much lock us up in the future. It will also keep your “son” Kobe happy and also have the Staples Center seats filled with the Chinese population because of Yi. Here’s the breakdown

Bucks will get: Kwame Brown and Radmanovic

Kings will get: Bobby Simmons and Jordna Farmar

Lakers will get: Yi Jianlian, Ron Artest, Charlie Villanueva and a filler Quincy Douby.

This will make us a contender for years to come and possibly win a championship.

Final Draft:
Hi my name Daniel from murrieta,ca this would be my deal
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=981~3002~2421~1022~2792~3214&teams=15~15~15~13~13~13&te=&cash=
Lakers would get yi along as charlie at the pf spot the lakers would do this trade because lakers have yi and charlie how are both youg but good.
Lakers send: shasa and farmer and brown.
bucks send: Yi and simmons and charlie villuevia
Lakers Lineup:
Dfish/java
Kobe/mo evans/coby karl
Lo/bobby simmons/luke walton/cook

• cyrus

LA All The Way,

I am sorry being late answering your question. You can post as many proposals as you wish but we will review your last post.

But you can make make several proposals in one post and we will review them as ONE combined proposal.

Does this answer your question?

• cyrus

One tip for everybody,

If you use the ESPN trade machine and select a team, at bottom of the list of the players, there is section called “….Additional Assets” and below that you will see “Unsigned Draft Picks” with a [+] next to it, just click on that [+] and it will show you the unsigned players.

• Lakers724

So in this trade, Bobcats get a spot up shooter, Lakers 1st round pick in 09 and cash. Kings get a very athletic Mo Evans, young Kwame Brown, and the Lakers 1st round pick in 08. The Lakers get Felton, whom in the future, with the experience of the Triangle, could be a very great facilitator for the Lakers to help Farmar, Bynum & Turiaf in the future. Artest to help them now and get the Lakers to appease Kobe, and Douby to balance out the salaries! This’ll be my final trade proposal for sure!

• fatty

mitch (lakers724)

This is PJ. Actually, I don’t count around here. I’m just the coach of the Lakers, not even a judge of the GM challenge. But hey, thanks for leaving me Farmar.

• Lakers724

So was I good on my trade PJ (or Fatty, it’s kind of hard to tell which!)?

• cyrus

Fatty,

“I don’t count around here….. not even a judge of the GM challenge.”

You know you’re always welcome to be a judge on any of these challenges and you were the first person I asked to be a judge on this one and you decided to sit this one out. There are not many people around with your BBL IQ and knowledge.

You have raised the basketball IQ on this website with your great articles and smart comments. Please don’t say that again “I don’t count around here.” not even as a joke. You count as a valuable and knowledgeable member of this blog. And we truly count on you my friend.

• xpunx23

okay to appease kobe okay first u do jeanie buss u marry her then

be good friends with jimmy and be a suck up to jerry buss then once theres a good vibe around u request to be GM

then tell kobe and lamar there not gonna get trade

then i trade sasha to the hawks for a 2nd round pick

then i sign cwebb

and then trade kwame bynum to utah for andre kirlenko and a 1st pick

fish
kobe
ak
lo
c webb

This deal won’t win, because its complicated and won’t make Lakers a contender for this upcoming season. But it worked on the trade machine. Woot!

Clippers get:
- Antawn Jamison (Need a PF to replace Brand)
- Dan Gadzuric & Jordan Farmar (Keeps the LA Clipper fans happy by seeing UCLA alumni)
- Vladimir Radmonovic (Old Clipper alumni to replace Thomas)
- Sasha Vujacic (young prospect who needs to hit the gym more often)

Wizards get:
- Sam Cassell & Kwame Brown (Equivalent expiring contract value to Jamison. Kwame is Wizard alumnus)
- Brian Cook (Younger, cheaper PF that scores and doesn’t play defense)

Bucks get:
- Tim Thomas (Veteran presence and Bucks alumnus)
- Al Thorton (Not the #6 pick, but better than nothing if Yi doesn’t get signed or traded)

Lakers get:
- Elton Brand (Knows the triangle, blocks, rebounds, scores)
- Yi Jianlian (An unknown. Probably a Chinese version of Brian Cook; wants to only score and not play D. Satisfies Plan D discussions)
- Interesting 2008-2009 season

• xpunx23

that trade is sooooo dumb why would washington take kwame back

• thewill

Plan D is dead. Back to the drawing board.

• cyrus

ATTENTION ALL PARTICIPANTS,

Yi Lianjian signed with the Bucks unexpectedly and the prospect of getting Yi is almost zero, I’m sorry, but those who used Yi as their trade piece should go back and revise their proposals to get better grades. If you leave Yi in your proposal you would lose full 2 points given to “practicality” of the proposed trade, and if you are using a multi-team, multi-player trade to get Yi, it will cost you points in “simplicity ” as well.

You have plenty of time to change your trade, here is the list of 2007 draft to look for other players.
http://www.nba.com/draft2007/board.html

Good Luck and sorry about the inconvenience.

This is very easy i should win this challenge. It’s as simple as trading LO and Bynum for JO.That will uppease Kobe.Especialy knowing that they got rid of that cry baby Bynum and got value in return i dont know why they did’nt pick up Kid it would have been very interesting to see Kid VS Nash in the playoff’s.Thank’s Mitch you blew it!!!

• cyrus

MILO,

I have deep understanding for your frustration. Front office incompetency is destroying this once glamorous ball club. The ownership transition from Jerry Buss, one of the most admired sports franchise owners, to his hypocritical and narcissistic son, Jimmy Buss, is crushing our beloved Lakers.

Jerry West saw this coming and left, he was too proud to be a puppet of Jimmy Buss. After Jerry West departure, Jimmy and his puppet, Mitch Kupchak dismantled the contender and elite Lakers piece by piece and reduced it to what we see today. And what we see is truly frustrating.

Also, do not underestimate yourself, nobody expect you to have the skills of a GM, you’re a fan and for fan you have sufficient knowledge. This challenge is designed to raise the basketball IQ by forcing you to lookup references, check players stats, get to know many young talents.

We are not expecting participants to perform magical trades and save our team. Our intentions are to encourage our members to build knowledge and educate themselves. You’re here because you’re a fan and you enjoy discussing basketball and Lakers and it would be much more fun to talk with knowledge which gives more confidence.

• JordanT

FINAL

Mitch here, I think for some reason my brain just started working. *puts down his cupcake*
Kings decided to cave after I convinced them Artest was a Michael Vick waiting to happen, they traded him to us for young talent and 3 point effectiveness.
I caved in and tossed Bynum With Odom to the Pacers. I threw in Brown because his cake tossing criminal nature I figured would get Artest too riled up to function

right and we need him to atleast try to attempt to act like he is remotely focusing. Also it helped sweeten the deal and the numbers to snag Granger.
They got what they wanted, and we are contenders with potential turning into effectiveness on our horizon. I believe Java will be very very good in the next few

years. Granger is only going to get better and he has a long and bright career infront of him. I think we could use the option to play some run and gun small ball,

and if anyone gets injured or anything gets funky we can always sign our draft pick Marc Gasol and move things around abit. Martin isn’t old..and he doesn’t

suck…at all :) (good thing they knew that he was gonna bail on them as soon as his contract expired) Some of that young talent’s contracts are expiring, but

nobody wants to leave a championship team ;)

As much as I hate to see Bynum or Odom go….

The 2007-2008 Roster is looking to start like this…

PG Fisher, Java, Karl
SG Bryant, Martin, Vujacic
SF Artest, Walton, Evans
PF Oneal, Turner, Granger
C Mihm, Turiaf,

Plenty of ways to move things around or adjust later if any freak incidents prevent this exact lineup.
Also I sent Kobe a Christmas Card, and yes I am aware that Fall is not even upon us.

I’m sure in a few years my kids will be wearing Bynum Jerseys…but secretly, under my suite…I wear a Bryant jersey that I just cant seem to find the heart
to take off..unless its 5-8 years from now and getting replaced by a jersey that reads Crittenton…

On a side note, I have been slipping Prozac into Artest’s Cambells Chunky Soup. Don’t tell nobody.

*mind suddenly returns to normal and I sink back into my comfort zone taking my bib and magic rattle with me into the ever present puddle of drool and excrement that

moats its way around my office high chair*

Yeesh I hate jumping into character as Mitch Kuppycake… I always feel dirty afterward.

Shower Time!

So your telling me Kings give-up Ron Artest (20ppg and Former DPOY) and Kevin Martin (24years old, young talent that avg 20ppg) and in return the kings get Vlad (4year massive contract), Cook, and Farmar? Kings wont give-up Martin and Indy wont giveup Granger. I think id be a little more practical if you took them out and added Crit for Kings, but I dont think that would be convincing enough for Kings. Nice idea though.

This is an interesting competition, because realistically you cant appease Kobe and build for the future. To appease Kobe, you need to put a championship team on the floor and you cant win a title with young talent, thus you cant build for the future, it takes veterans to win a title. It cant be both, either you rebuild or go for a title and appease Kobe. Interesting nonetheless.

Cyrus,
When are we going to have the PLAN Z competition? When we HAVE to trade KOBE and build for the future. Has the idea crossed your guys mind? That would be the best challenge, because with Kobe in a deal, pretty much anything is possible. It would be really interesting seeing all the endless possibilities.

• JordanT

The Kings might with Sun Yue and maybe a future first rounder thrown in, then again i wouldn’t =P but hey I wouldn’t do alot of things both organizations have done. Also what if we took care of some of Radmans foolish contract with a cash bonus?

Another thing though is, at one point Radman was a decent player lol instead of the pile of uselessness he was last year.

Artest is someone they havn’t been completely euphoric over, and Kevin Martin not only can just bail at the end of this year..even if he stays he is going to want more money than their cap can afford.

Pacers get Odom, Bynum, and Brown…they might throw granger in that mix to offset the fact that Both Odom and Bynum > Jermain

Granger is also going to become alot more expensive after this year =P as his contract also expires.

I dont think it was brought up really because…Kupcake said one or the other not both no matter what.

Never trade Kobe.

Ill type it again if I have to XD

Even if I am completely unrealistic, Contest rules only allot 2 points for realism XD but i think it would be a good starting point if a real trade was going to go down. Offers, counter offers, successes are relative to personality and politics which we cannot fathom as clearly as money and trade mechanics.

• cyrus

BEC,

As you know, I had the Kobe challenge ready but I bumped into some resistance. Let us finish this challenge first, We will see then.

I truly don’t know when I am going to do that. I have to think about it . I just don’t want to create negative energy (sounds like the ZEN master.lol) I am a Kobe fan and it would just break my heart to see him get traded, not even on the paper or as a game.

However, I’m not ruling it out, it may happen, I just need to feel comfortable about it.

And thank you for your support. You are a valuable member with great knowledge. You always create stimulating discussions on this board which is educating and challenging and it is raising the basketball IQ on this website.

How about we get involved in a little shaking and baking eh? We all have some bagadge that we can probably switch around and make some nice shoes out of! Ok so my jokes aren’t as great as my General Managing is *cough* sarcasm *cough* Let’s get to business shall we? First off Mr. Petrie, I know Artest has been a huge distraction and there is some evidence that Bibby’s days are numbered. Last year you, Rod Thorn, showed some interest in Bynum, and you Geoff Petrie showed some interest in taking K.Brown’s contract. I think we, uhh I mean I, have a proposal for you both that can help all of us out. Since we have “The Zen Master” who everyone knows took care of Rodman, we’re willing to take your problems(Artest) off your shoulders. We have a very nice asset in Andrew Bynum. I know I didn’t want to trade him because I know he’s going to be an awesome center. We’re now in a win now situation {I’m a good general manager, yes I am, ohhh back to business} hmmm excuse me for dosing off there! Well I’m willing to trade Bynum now and I think this proposal can help us all out. Here we go, brace yourselves:

http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=4197909

First off, Sacramento: We take a nut in Arest and ship Bibby to New Jersey. In return you get a very versatile forward in Lamar Odom, a young future star in Jordan Farmar, a very nice expiring contract of Kwame Brown and our first round pick next season.

Now, New Jersey: We take a very old point guard in Jason Kidd and 2 unproven forwards in Bostjan Nachbar and Josh Boone. In return you get Mike Bibby to lead the point and a future ALL STAR FUTURE HALL OF FAMER in my beloved Andrew Bynum.

So what do you say, done deal?

——————————————————–

We then can sign C. Jake Tsakalidis – http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3424
and Pf. Chris Webber

Roster would look like:

Pg. Jason Kidd / Derek Fisher / Javaris Crittenton
Sg. Kobe Bryant / Mo Evans
Sf. Ron Artest / Luke Walton
Pf. Bostjan Nachbar / Chris Webber / Josh Boone
C. Cris Mihm / Jake Tsakalidis – Sign Mark Gasol?

Well I’m willing to trade Bynum now and I think this proposal can help us all out. Here we go, brace yourselves:

Please be civil about your comments, cleanup the language or we will disqualify you both. Professionals don’t talk in this manner. These challenges are designed to educate and stimulate intelligent communication.

Darkblaze,

Try to post a final proposal with the word “FINAL” on top. Just copy/paste one of your previous posts and edit it they way you want it, but please don’t forget to put the word “FINAL” on top. We will ignore or delete your previous posts as soon as you post your FINAL proposal.

ATTENTION ALL PARTICIPANTS,

Yi Lianjian signed with the Bucks unexpectedly and the prospect of getting Yi is almost zero, I’m sorry, but those of you who used Yi as their trade piece may want to go back and revise their proposals to get better grades. If you leave Yi in your proposal you would lose up to 2 points given to “practicality” of the proposed trade, and if you are using a multi-team, multi-player trade to get Yi, it will cost you points in “simplicity” as well.

You have plenty of time to change your trade; here is the list of 2007 draft to look for other players.

Good Luck and sorry about the inconvenience

And please don’t forget to write the word “FINAL” on top of your post with your final proposal. Thanks

Cyrus, disqualify me if you want. I came in here to try the challenge out. So when someone comes in and tries to be funny and call me a loser, I’m supposed to just be quiet about it? I just reversed the humor back at him. Go ahead and disqualify me then. If not here’s my

FINAL

From: Mitch Kupchak (Jim Buss)
To: Geoff Petrie(Sacramento Kings) and Rod Thorn(New Jersey Nets)

How about we get involved in a little shaking and baking eh? We all have some baggage that we can probably switch around and make some nice shoes out of! Darkblaze,

I am not gonna disqualify you because I know you didn’t started it. However, when I post a warning, I have to address it to both parties. And I understand that you had to defend yourself but that’s how it starts, one nasty post leads to another one and we have a fight here before we know it. I deleted both post to make everybody comfortable. I value you as a knowledgeable member of this blog and I appreciate your comments stimulating smart talks.

Regarding your proposal:
Your proposal is valid and will be reviewed. Just a hint; each judge has 10 points to give. 2 for practicality, 2 for simplicity, 3 for future of the team and 3 for improving present roster.

Practicality: is your proposal good enough for the other/s team/s
Simplicity: more teams and more players complicate a trade.

• cyrus

Lakers724,

I have deleted your post with personal attack on Darkblaze. Please be careful with your words and try to be civil. We have no tolerance for personal attacks on this blog.

I see you guys didnt like my trade of getting rid of Kobe. Dont you see that he is a cancer!!! Look at this idiot. He ran Phil out of town, he ran Shaq out of town, he ran Horry out of town, and he crying about he dont have players to play with. This fool is loyal to no one… not even his wife!!! He doesnt deserve to be a Laker!!! Ship him out now while we can get value for him. It makes no sense at all to build around him because he doesnt make his players better. You all are just like his wife who thought he was so loyal and great… he will sleep with anyone, and should he not be trusted!!!

• wasay24

lakers roster is good the way it is just trade kwame brown and farmar for elton brand

• cyrus

lakaluva,

You made your point in hating Kobe in your first post, there is no reason for you to continue your baseless claims on this thread. This is a challenge with rules and guidelines and you should stop posting unrelated comments.

I’m sure there will be some other Kobe related topics where you will have the opportunity to express your opinion. But not on this thread.

• cyrus

Wasay24,

If you want us to review your suggestion you must post a proposal with a link to a trade machine and some explanation. Thank you

• http://www.getgarnett.com Fred A.

Final

Hello I am Fred A. I love the Lakers. I am big lakers fan.
My Roster:
PG: Fisher/Critt/Karl
SG: Bryant/Evans/Vujivic
SF: Odom/Walton/Noel
PF: JO/Villinueva/Tariaf
C: Mihm/sign webber/Turner

From looking at this roster you have a present and a future.
This will automaticly appease the Kobe and the fans. The present and future of this team is great and that is continuing to build a team around Kobe and JO(A great base).
This is how its done!!!!!
Three way trade between Lakers-Bucks-Pacers:

Bucks:
Cook
First Rounders 2008,2009
Money

Pacers:
Bynum
Radmonivic
Brown
Farmer
First Rounder 2010
Money

Lakers:
JO
Villuenuva
Noel

(But if we have to give up Odom for JO to come, I would send Brown to the Bucks and Odom to the Pacers. Then next year I would think about getting Odom back if not get Artest probly for Noel/Turner deal(This is a huge maybe).)

Do you think I should be GM?

• Lakers724

Actually…this is my trade:

So in this trade, Bobcats get a spot up shooter, Lakers 1st round pick in 09 and cash. Kings get a very athletic Mo Evans, young Kwame Brown, and the Lakers 1st round pick in 08. The Lakers get Felton, whom in the future, with the experience of the Triangle, could be a very great facilitator for the Lakers to help Farmar, Bynum & Turiaf in the future. Artest to help them now and get the Lakers to appease Kobe, and Douby to balance out the salaries! This’ll be my “FINAL” trade proposal for sure!
So we’ll have a roster of this:
Fisher-PG/Felton/Farmar/Vujacic/
Kobe-SG/Mo Evans/Coby Karl/Douby/
Artest-SF/Walton/Radman/
Odom-PF/Turiaf/

Hey Mitch(PHANTOM),

This is Geoff from the Sacramento Kings, you’re killing me. Ron Artest is worth more than what you’re putting on the table here. I don’t want 4 years of Radmonovich at that much, I know my bosses are billionaires but still Radman isn’t worth that much. I like Jordan Farmar but you didn’t even offer Kwame Brown’s expiring contract. Help me out here.

• Darkblaze

FINAL

I’ll try something new. I’ll throw away the idea of big names and try something else.

First trade would be http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=617~3206~2754~454~3204&teams=22~22~13~13~13&te=&cash=
plus next years 1st round pick.

The next trade would be http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=981~3002~25~3000&teams=23~23~13~13&te=&cash=

Portland: Lamar Odom’s versatility and friendship with Darius Miles alongside Greg Oden should be a lot of help. He can help a young team out and his scoring would be highly welcomed. They also get a 1st round pick to help out next season along with a young 7 foot center in Marc Gasol.
Lakers: We get a nice young power forward in Channing Frye, a young shooting guard in Rodolfo Fernandez and center Raef LaFrentz as filler to make the trades legal.

Sacramento: They take in a young promising point guard in Jordan Farmar(since there is some evidence M. Bibby’s days are numbered) and a huge expiring contract that has interested Sacramento in Kwame Brown.
Lakers: We take a problem off their shoulders in Ron Artest and Quincy Douby as a filler to make the trade legal.

All teams would benefit off this trade and the lakers secure some young talent for the future. The starting lineup isn’t as great as one with huge names on it but it’s decent enough to contend.

We then can go after Chris Webber to help at the power forward spot.

——————-

Lakers roster would look like:

Pg. D. Fisher / S. Vujacic / J. Crittenton /Q.Douby
Sg. K. Bryant / M. Evans / R. Fernandez
Sf. R. Artest / L. Walton / V. Radmanovich
Pf. C. Frye / R. Turiaf / C. Webber
C. C. Mihm / A. Bynum / R. LaFrentz

With this roster, options could open up to trade for a pick next year since the Laker’s pick was traded ;-) or just stay as is.

ok, for those that are too lazy, this is the deal

Lakers send:
Kwame Brown
Brian Cook
Sasha Vujacic

Lakers Receive:
Wally Szerbiak
Damien Wilkins
the Lakers would do this trade, as it gives a good second or third option, we keep andrew bynum and lamar odom, without giving any promising young players
Seattle will do this because they are rebuilding, and searching for young talent, and wally is not young. With this trade, they get an important and rare role in a back to the basket center, who is good on defense, and young, so who knows where he can end up, and most importantly, has an 8 million dollar expiring contract that can put them under the cap.. They also receive two great shooters in Sasha Vujucic and Brian Cook, who are young, and will fit right in.

here is our laker lineup with this

Derek Fisher/Jordan Farmar/ Javaris Crittenton
Kobe Bryant/Maurice Evans/ Damien Wilkins/ Coby Karl
Wally Szerbiak/ Luke Walton/ Vladimir Radmonivic
Lamar Odom/Ronny Turiaf/(Possibly sign Chris Webber to a multiyear deal with the remained of our MLE)
Andrew Bynum/ Chris Mihm/ Larry Turner

Now: We have Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Wally Szerbiak, Damien Wilkins and Derek Fisher heading off our now team, most of these players have the ability to take over games, and haveve years of experience
Future:We have a young core of Andrew Bynum, Jordan farmar, Javaris Crittenton,Ronny Turiaf, Luke walton, Coby Karl.

Hope you like it :)

Lakers-Well we appease Kobe by getting a nice PG in Miller since obviously Fisher can’t play the whole 48 minutes and we secure our future with Iguodala who can also contribute now with his perimeter defense and scoring. Our big three would be Kobe, Iggy, and Odom which should be enough to appease Kobe and maybe even attract a FA or two.

Hawks-Smith wants an extension but ATL doesn’t seem to be complying. Getting Bynum secures their C position and allows other young players like Horford and Marvin Williams to shore up the PF spot. Their future will look real bright with this young core led by Joe Johnson.

Sixers-They lose Iguodala but are now building around Smith who will get the extension he deserves in Philly. Smith plays defense just as well as Iggy does if not better, both are highflyers, but Smith has the size advantage and is developing that jump shot. Kwame gives them relief with his 9 mil exp K and Crittenton will be their PG of the future. They also have a nice young core with Carney and Young to go with J-Smoove and JC

Hi My name is Ishaq Ahmed Shariff…

If I could have my way, I would go with this trade:

3-way trade(LAL/Utah/Memphis):

LAL trades: Odom, Kwame, Brian Cook, Sasha, Farmar, Ronny Turaif, and ’08 first round pick
LAL Receives: AK47, Juan Carlos Navarro, and Pau Gasol

Utah trades: AK 47 and Mehmet Okur
Utah Recieves: Odom, Kwame, and Sasha

Memphis trades: Pau Gasol and Juan Carlos Navarro (gasol’s best friend)
Memphis Recieves: Mehmet Okur, Brian Cook, Farmar, Ronny Turaif, and ’08 first round pick

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=981~1998~3002~617~2789~2421~996~434~1014&teams=26~29~29~26~29~26~13~13~29&te=&cash=
* this does not includ Navarro, for some reason Espn trade machine doesnt have him on the roster… but salaries still match, since his contract is extremely small

~Sign Webber (for $900,000)

Line Up:

D-Fish/Javaris/Navarro
Kobe/Maurice/Coby
AK47/Walton/V.Rad
Pau Gasol/Webber
Bynum/Mihm

Total Salaries: $70,192,025 (aproximating Navarro’s salary which is less than T. Kinsey’s… so I gave him 650,000, which actually should be a little less)

*makes us contenders with a more consistant offense, and way better defense, now while…Leaving us with a pool of young stars… such as Javaris, Coby, Navarro, Bynum, Sun Yue, Marc Gasol… and player who can still put in another 8-10 years, such as Pau, Maurice, Walton, AK 47, and perhaps maybe Mihm

~Utah does this because they get some extra help scoring with odom, who is a better fit on the team than AK 47, and better defense and the center posion which they deprately need. Utah’s break down 2.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 2.6 apg.

~Memphis does this because, they improve in many ways and dramatically in their stats… they get many young talents, such, as farmar, turaif, and cook.. not to mention a ’08 first round pick to add to their young talents… as well as a younger pf/c in Mehmet Okur. Memphis Trade Breakdown: 13.4 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 2.4 apg.

~Sign Webber (for $900,000)

Line Up:

D-Fish/Farmar/Javaris
Kobe/Maurice/Sasha/Coby
AK47/Walton/V.Rad
Okur/Webber/Turaif
Bynum/Mihm

Total Salaries: $70,871,707

*makes us contenders with a more consistant offense, and way better defense, now while…Leaving us with a pool of young stars… such as Javaris, Coby, Farmar, Sasha, Turaif, Bynum, Sun Yue, Marc Gasol… and players who can still put in another 8-10 years, Okur, Maurice, Walton, AK 47, and perhaps maybe Mihm

~Utah does this because they get some extra help scoring with odom, who is a better fit on the team than AK 47, and better defense and the center posion which they deprately need. Memphis’s trade break down 5.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg, and 2.7 apg.

sorry about the confusion… i meant hassel, not jaric… so its the last one i want counted … THANK YOU

• LA All The Way

This is my trade!

FINAL

3 way deal… LA, Utah, Milwaukee

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=1022~2792~981~1998~1031~3002~3206~434~3015&teams=26~13~15~26~26~15~26~13~15&te=&cash=

Utah – receive a score treath in Simmons! The team is looking for players in the SG position and now have one in Evans, and remember, Bobby can play the two also! Marc Gasol is going to add some depth inside! And with Cook also in the mix, they don’t have shotters problems anymore! Ok, Bobby and Cook are two awful contracts, but they match salaries with Kirilenko! The team isn’t been hurt
financially!

Milwaukee – They are cleaning 9mil with Brown contract! Ok, they lose CV, but they are obtaining enough depth inside with Brown and a great young prospect in Millsap! And most important. Since is looking dificult to Bell to return, they’ll realy want a backup to Mo Wi and Redd! Farmar is another great young prospect to go with the good young core in the team and he can be this backup!

LA – I realy don’t think that I need to tell why we do this, but let’s go! We’re obtaining a great young player in CV, who is also a strong player inside and will do good job in defense! Ok, Kirilenko last season realy hurts the hope for this season and his contract hurts a lot more, but, we’re obtaining he for almost nothing on a player that is a defense treath and already play in an all-star level in his carrer! I realy think that he has a lot more to offer than Kwame and Cook!

In the end our lineup would be…

Dfish/Java/Sasha
Kobe/Coby karl
Lo/Kirilenko/Luke walton
Carlie villuevia/Turiaf/Vlad
Bynum/Mihmm

Looks like a good team to me…

To appease….hmmmmm….might ultimately mean to trade him if that is what he really wants…but that is not the goal of this challenge. Ultimately the goal is to make the Lakers better without giving away the farm…aka Bynum(you can’t teach the skills, hands, and 7 ft. frame this young man has, and for those of you who demean his value try comparing his stats at 19 with KG at 19; also don’t forget what he showed the first 2 months last year even though his stamina faltered during the 2nd half) and possibly Critt(if you saw him in summer league you know what I mean, he also was the number one guard coming out of hs according to rivals.com and played the triangle all four years in hs. Critt is probably more valuable to the Lakers than he would be to any other team).

What the Lakers lacked most was defense, chemistry, and experience. They went along way by signing Fish and resigning Mihm. Both of them will help greatly esp. Fish who will help the triangle run smoothly. Given these facts the trade most advantageous to the Lakers would be a big man and not necessarily a scoring big man because the Lakers avg. enough pts. but lacked in defense and experience.

My proposal:

Mitch trades Kwame, Farmer, Radmonivich, and a #1 08 to the Wolves
McHale trades Howard, Jaric, and Madsen

This trade favors Minnesota but that is my objective as the Lakers will have to over pay because of the position they are in…a certain player to remain nameless didn’t help their position.

The wolves get cap space and a serviceable center in Kwame, a young pt. guard in Farmar who can be a good back-up or perhaps a starter in the future and they get rid of a bad contract and poor productivity in Jaric, and they get Rad who a change of scenery might be the best thing for him…besides there is more snow in Minnesota, and a number one pick.

The Lakers get an experience productive big man for two years, Jaric(whose productivity was worse than Rad’s) bad contract who might fit better in the triangle, and Madsen who knows the triangle and will be a good experience addition on the bench and who will work well with Bynum in practice. Long run good for the Wolves(which is what they are playing for), short run good for the Lakers….and isn’t that what we need to appease, mollify, placate, calm, pacify, soothe, and soften you know who.

Final trade….without the number one pick…The wolves get enough from Kwame, cap relief, young talent in Farmar, and they get rid of albatross Jaric and his unwarranted contract.

i really think this trade can work out.

1. we get JO
2. we don’t give up much young talent only exception is bynum
3. we get rid of very horrible contracts (brown, vlad)
4. bobcats get a young danny granger with alot of potential
5. who can pacers turn that trade down get bynum and sean may and the direction i heard they are going with is suns tempo with the 3′s so vlad could be a great addition
6. they get a young pg is felton
7. lakers roster with this trade

kobe bryant
lamar odom
brain cook
javaris crittenton
maurice evans
jordan farmar
derek fisher
coby karl
chirs mihm
ronny turaif
larry turner
sasha vujic
luke walton

8. that team with the bench can contend for a nba championship and a starting five of Kobe, LO, JO, Mihm, fisher
and we got walton coming off the bench with java and farmar with evans our energizers bunny ronny and who knows if larry turner can avg a double double every game i feel this trade can make us a top three in the west and helps us build for a future

hope you pick me was the 1st place winner
