Bryant talks about future with Lakers

Kobe Bryant is finally donning the red, white, and blue. And he recently spoke out about the drama with him and the Lakers that went down earlier this summer. Seems like he’s in real high spirits; good to hear.

oly_g_bryant2_195.jpgESPN.com: Despite being given numerous chances to clarify his position on his future with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant on Friday declined to bring any clarity to his situation.

Does he still want to be traded? Or does he still want to be a Laker for life?

Whichever is true, Kobe wouldn’t say.

“I understand the interest in the situation, and when the time is right, I’ll be more than happy to answer those questions,” Bryant said after practicing with Team USA on day one of the national team’s three-day minicamp. “Right now we have a lot to accomplish, and I don’t want to detract from that or be a distraction from that.”

Asked when exactly the time will be right, Bryant said he did not know.

“It’s about going forward and handling the situation the right way, and handling it behind closed doors within the walls of the organization, and doing it that way,” said Bryant, who has failed to clarify his position for seven weeks now since going on 1050 ESPN Radio in New York saying he wanted to be traded, then altering his position in subsequent interviews later that same day.

yay! no relevance to what he is doing.

  • SILO

Looks like his mind is in pretty good shape now. I guess all he needed was a good break and some time alone.

He looks good in that uni and that new number.

    GO USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lakersfan17

    We need to bring help..

  • nyla

He released all that anger in the gym.

  • Noriega7333

I thought he was going to wear number 10. I was going to buy his jersey too.

  • magic32

This is so worthless to post up. For gods sake every1 here has espn. and since its kobe there going to keep talking about this subject in between highlights.

Anyways vote Kobe for whos now.

  • Faith

If you really think about it, he has said what needed to be said. Done what NEEDED to be done. And while it almost gave me a heart attack…I can’t rightly look back and say I’ll change it from happening if I could.

The fact that we’re actually actively going after KG, actively going after JO (well somewhat)…is a testament to the frustration, our frustration as fans…he has brought to the surface.

Though I feel like he NEEDS to say no question he’s staying. NO if and or buts. Stay.

I just read the whole article and it sounds to me that he would still like to be traded. If not, why won’t he just come out and say that he wants to stay in LA? He was dodging all the questions about his future with the LAkers. Also sounds like the Lakers are actually shopping him. If I was one of his teammates…..I would be pretty pissed off. I’m a Kobe fan for life but I think he is hurting the team more than anything. The off seasons moves so far are the least bit impressive. Big deal….we resigned Mimn and Walton. I’m happy as hell about Fisher but he fell right into our laps. No team is going to want to help us in a big trade and if they do we are going to have to give up way too much cuz everyone knows that the Lakers FO has their back against the wall because of Kobe. All the other GM’s are probably laughing at us.

  • KB4LIFE

I knew it.. he was just venting.. he aint going nowhere.. atch him dominate in Team USA and watch him dominate and get his 3rd consecutive scoring title this coming season.. watch out every one the Lakers are coming to rape your team :)

I believe that Kobe is slowly creeping toward staying. I feel the Lakers are only one more big trade away. I feel that Kobe and the lakers are keeping a secret from the public and that is something no one knows. Plus Minny is staying covered and secretive. Kobe probly was so made he did not know what was comeing out of his mouth. He probly said this just to scare the Lakers orginzation. But i do not know if I am correct.

I like that number 10. That is my favorite number to put on my jersy to play with.

  • klao

kobe will be traded, today’s comments made me see that, it’s ashame, but it is what it is.

I am glad to see Kobe is admitting the mistake he made in his media frenzy. He’s my favorite player and has been from day one. However, I think he made a grave mistake to let Ric Bucher lure him to that notorious phone conversation, and now Lakers and Kobe himself are paying a high price for it.

I followed his media frenzy very closely last Memorial Day weekend; it started with Ric Bucher reporting about his phone conversation with Kobe. Bryant tried to repair the damage in giving radio interviews but unfortunately, the Lakers hating LA-Times put more fuel on Kobe’s fire with that report about Lakers insider accusing Kobe for Shaq’s departure. The trap was set; Stephen A. Smith caught Kobe at the climax of his anger and made him demand a trade publicly.

Who was the winner? ESPN, Ric Bucher, Stephen A. Smith and eventually Suns.
Who was the loser? Lakers and Kobe.
Who paid the ultimate price? Fans like you and I paid the price in disappointment, frustration and disbelieve.

Ric Bucher loves Phoenix Suns and wouldn’t hesitate for a second to cause more damage to the Lakers anyway he could. I just Hope Kobe could recognize the fact that Ric Bucher was-or is- just using him to benefit his ratings and at the same time helping Phoenix Suns.

If Kobe stays and plays. When fans go to the Staples Center they should get signs to say, ‘Please KB24 Stay, We Love You’ and cheer even harder for him from the first game until the last game and I think that will change his mind. Now Mitch and Buss will have to do their jobs to make bigger
    changes to the roster.

“I think they’re a helluva basketball, um, a great addition, I have to say, to the team.”

still sounds like he’s distancing himself from the team

  • daboss1848

It sure didn’t read to me like he was staying:

When asked if the signing of Derek Fisher, the drafting of Javaris Crittenton and the re-signings of Chris Mihm and Luke Walton were enough to placate his desire for an upgrade to the Lakers’ roster, Bryant’s initial answer did not make a lot of sense.

    “I think they’re a helluva basketball, um, a great addition . . .”

When does a player refer to his own team as “I think they’re a hell of a basketball team”

  • Justin M.

Who can agrue that if we get JO without loosing Odom we are gonna win a Championship? Man we’ll have a scary roster.

    Fisher
    Kobe
    Odom
    JO
    Mihm

this is a very good article, Kobe spoke to Andrew a long time ago, read it, very good.

Kevin is a very good journalist, he’s never looking for the controversial note(say like the latimes) he’s always to the point and the facts.

  • Cyrus

Go to FoxSports.com, there is a video clip about Fisher’s signing today. If you listen carefully to Fisher, you will hear that he knows Kobe will be back. The way he says it, it’s like without any doubt.

  • Rpoc

All Kobe has to say is he wants to be a Laker and will definitely be here in training camp. Has he? No because he thinks this roster still isn’t good enough. Doesn’t matter if he says he loves everyone now. He can say he loves them even on another team.

Thank you Simers for giving the hard questions instead of washed up pansy ass ones the other reporters ask.

    Problem not solved.

Accomplish something for once in your life Mitch!

  • dude

Simer seems like he REALLY HATEs KOBE…. with a passion.
Damn Kobe Hater… no wonder its from the latime

  • Rpoc

Please man. Take off those tinted lens for a second. He can go overboard and spew some haterade sometimes, but this is one of those times where he is right. Kobe was freaking dodging all his questions and they were all good!! Even Kobe jockers should see that.
• Most of the GMs I spoke with said they believe owner Jerry Buss won’t trade Kobe.

They think he’ll fire Mitch Kupchak, replace Kupchak with a GM that Kobe likes (probably not Jerry West, who is very close with Kupchak) and then sell Kobe on a bold course of action.

That move, by the way, is long overdue.

The bottom line, if you listen to what Kobe says, is that he thinks Kupchak lacks the courage to make a big move. He’s had chances to acquire Baron Davis, Carlos Boozer and Jason Kidd but talked himself out of each trade because he didn’t want to incur the risk involved.

That jibes with what a number of GMs said about Kupchak.

“He operates in the shadow of Jerry West,” one GM said. “He rarely is willing to go out on a limb unless Jerry Buss mandates it like he did with Shaq. He’s not the type of guy who has a stomach to pull the trigger on a big deal. Every trade involves risks. Some GMs are more willing to take them than others. Right now the Lakers need a risk-taker who knows what he’s doing.”
Mitch Cupcake is a fraking pussy. A bigger pussy than cake throwing Brown.

Bring in a COMPETENT risk-taker who knows what the FRAK he’s doing!!! Please!!

You guys don’t like obscene language so I got to improvise. Frakity Frak Frak Frak! Kobe needs a real roster to stay. Frak!!
