at peace.Yahoo! Sports: Although he didn’t rescind his trade request, Kobe Bryant softened his stance somewhat Thursday night, saying he had apologized to Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak in person for the way he handled his upset feelings five weeks ago.

“I just felt like as a man, it was important for me to tell him, `I’m sorry it came out that way,”‘ Bryant said at a lightly attended news conference at Loyola Marymount, where he spoke mainly about his camp for youngsters at the school this week.

Bryant said that while he could have called Kupchak, it was important he speak with him face-to-face.

“I was frustrated, I was venting,” Bryant said.

When asked whether he still wanted out, Bryant replied: “I haven’t thought about that in a long, long time. I’ve kind of stepped away from that. I’ve concentrated on Team USA. What I say is what I say. We’ll just have to see where it goes.”

The U.S. national team begins practice July 20 in Las Vegas.

Bryant, the NBA’s leading scorer the past two seasons, complained about a lack of talent around him at season’s end, and said May 30 he wanted to be traded, adding nothing could change his mind.

• kobeownsU

There’s no need to apologize to cupkake, if ne thing jerry buss should apologize to Laker fans for making him the GM!

• One35

Unless Mitch promised Kobe that moves are gonna come no reason for Kobe to apologize to anyone which tells me something is gonna happen.

and stop blaming mitch for everything thats happening, he has like no power

• lakersforlife77

Ok guys I think I’ve come close to thinking up a trade that would be highly likely of happening

And before you look at it I would like to note that Michael Sweetney, Kyle Lowry, Sasha Vujacic, and Tarence Kinsey are in the trade only in order for the salaries to match up, and that there are MANY different things you could do to match the salaries.

And also I would like to mention that there are a few things that I couldn’t add in the trade machine that I’ll mention now:

You send Joakim Noah to Minnesota(Mchale has spoken fondly of all the Florida players)

And also the Lakers would send next years first round pick to either minnesota or memphis
and Chicago would also send their first round pick to either Memphis or Minnesota

And to sweeten the pot the Lakers could throw in a second round pick or two.

With that in mind I give you this:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=2456~2175~3032~261~353~981~2748~3002~617~2421~996~3045~3012&teams=29~13~16~13~13~16~16~16~29~29~4~16~13

I think it works out for all teams, except I had a lot of problems trying to make the deal great for memphis, but I still think it’s a nice deal for them.

So with Chicago they would have this line-up:
C- Ben Wallace
PF- Pau Gasol
SF- Loul Deng
SG- Ben Gordon
PG- Kirk Hinrich

That’s an East contender right there

for the rest of the line-ups:

I’m not gonna bother with the Lakers because there is still a lot of work to do after that, but I will point out that we should be willing to take in whatever contracts we have to to make the deal work

With Minnesota, they have a strong rebuilding nucleus with Corey Brewer, Adonal Foyle, Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas, Andrew Bynum, and Jordan Farmar and an expiring contract in Kwame along with some picks. With all that young talent, that team has a promising future.

Then with Memphis, you get Odom who will flourish without being shackled by the triangle, Nocioni who is a very good shooter, and you can put some filler talent in their along with a future first rounder and possibly some second rounders from us.

So yeah what do you think? I think I got pretty close to striking gold ;). I think this would be one of the only multi-team deals that’s possible.

And also, this is GREAT news that he apologized!

Looks like Ric Bucher lost his bet, that means he is going to die(yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Ric Bucher has Brain Cancer?

*****Semi Breaking News******

“A source close to situation” reported, that Ric Bucher, the notorious liar and master of deception has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Doctors say his brain cells couldn’t take the outrageous lies and daily deceptive stories anymore. So, they started a mutation to stop him from lying and upsetting fans. The Lakers hating sportscaster, while asking for forgiveness on death bed, confessed that he has been paid by the Phoenix Suns to spread lies about Lakers and Kobe causing Kobe to ask for a trade.

Doctors still hope to rescue Bucher with a brain transplant. T.J. Simers of LA-Times and Stephen A. Smith of BSPN have both offered half of their brain to keep Bucher alive. It’s a tough choice for Ric Bucher, he must choose between the irony filled brain of Simers and the stupidity of Stephen A. Smith

Our best wishes to Ric Bucher, hopefully he can keep some of his brain cells and get transplants from T.J. Simers and Stephen A. Smith, this way he would wakeup a stupid and ironic liar sportscaster after the decisive surgery.

• daboss1848

Sorry lakersforlife, no way Memphis does this. Pau is touted as a franchise player – he gets traded for two role players and a #9-10 bench player?

On the apology, i certainly hope Mitch reciprocated by apologizing and explaining all the goings on at the FO.

oh and btw the whole kobe apologizes thing is a good sign…maybe mitch told him whats goin down? KG?

• RC

Kobe has apologized and don’t forget that you backward laker fans.

Next, Kobe still does NOT like the weak players mitch has overpaid or signed in his time with the lakers, so nothing has changed.

Third, Kobe may still opt out if they keep overpaying players like walton and not bringing in any talent. Kobe will NO LONGER keep being superman and rescuing this weak team time and time again.

Lastly, Kobe still controls the show, so mitch you have all the laker fans (good fans and backward fans) looking at you now, and if you do like you have been doing the last 3 years PLUS, you will be at the wrath of ALL LAKER FANS. So time to LISTEN to Kobe closely and get your shit together!!!!!!!!

CYRUS, you NOW more than Kobe should make a public apology to Ric Bucher, no grudges, JUST DO IT!!!!!

• klao

This article is much better than the AP article, the AP article took all the quotes and made one for their advantage.

This is the latimes article:

http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/lakers/la-sp-kobe6jul06,0,5934200.story?coll=la-home-center

Still biased, but it seems the quotes are not cut off, for the purpose of a more sensationalist article.

• kobeguru

RC, you keep on talking about how the lakers should not have SOFT players on our team. You have to remember we are a very finesse team, The Lakers or Kobe aren’t the Detroit Pistons. Being a soft player does not refer to how good, talented, or how much you contribue you are.

• kobeownsU

I think RC’s whole life is based on a fabricated lie that people actually care what he says, and in that him and Bucher have something in common

• RC

Finesse will not work, I will unload all players on the lakers that are soft.

Kobe is NOT soft, Artest is NOT soft, KG is NOT soft, these are the players that would be on the Lakers, NO SOFT players allowed!!!!!

• RC

Laker fans, Kobe and D. Fish are NOT that tight. D Fish was very neutral on Kobe and Shaq when they had their share of problems and Kobe does not forget, he may forgive but he does not forget.

Kobe liked other players on the lakers roster much more than D. Fish and the fact that Kobe hasn’t called D. Fish should tell all you laker fans enough of what is going on.

If kobe can text Melo when he was suspended he can certainly text D Fish for his daughter. Kobe hasn’t been in contact and that should tell you that he does not want an over the hill PG on this team. Kobe already believes that there are too many soft players like Luke Walton, Cook, Bynum and Kwame just to mention a few and he doesn’t want another HURTING this team to return to championship form.

Kobe wants a few players that can START, not come off the bench but START. So start your engines and let Kobe’s leadership run this team!!!!

• http://www.lakerfreak.homestead.com lakerfreak

thats good I bet everyone who reported he wanted out after his meeting with mitch feel pretty dumb I hope they get D Fish and i dont think anything is mitch’s fault its buss’s fault

• SILO

KOBE WAS ON ESPN NEWS. SAID HE WAS ASHAMED ABOUT THE YOUTUBE VIDEO. HE DID OVER REACT AND THAT HE IS SORRY.

• kobeguru

Wow RC, kobe did text d fish. During the game when d fish entered the game in the third quarter, kobe texted him when he arriving at the arena and said go at them. Plus, it is very hard to say kg is finesse, and there are some really good finesse players like dirk, agent zero, steve nash

• Rpoc

What Kobe did was right in apologizing. That video was him being unprofessional. He was still a whiny bitch throughout this whole time. And Bucher was his right hand jackass.

Now Mitch, apologize on behalf of the management for building a crappy team centering around the irrational gambling of the ultimate pipe plan that was 2007.

• KingKobe

Good. Very good. This could go a long way. Kobe was right to be upset but not in the the way he handled it. But now he’s apologized. I would have liked a small apology toward Laker fans but beggars can’t be choosers right?

This also helps as far as teams thinking they could rape us of all our trade assets just to placate our superstar. If they think everything is dandy then they might not be so inclined to ask for too much.

http://www.clublakers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=77361&sid=d42ae788441310b9cb3234672963ad34

Hello everyone. My name is Tom, and my uncle works for the upper brass management of the Laker organization. I am not at liberty to disclouse who he is, or what capacity he functions in the organization. However, he does mention ideas, trade scenarios, and such that Mitch, Jim and Dr. B have been proposing. Most get shot down, however he mentioned to me yesterday while watching the fireworks and spending some quality time with the family, that Mitch is actively trying to improve the roster. Please know, its not entirely his fault. Often times, teams do not want to deal with the Lakers, because they don’t want to make the Lakers better. However, in the event of not sounding too negative. I do have a silver lining to bring to everyone. Some may like these ideas, some may lash out with profanity laced tirades, but understand these are the deals that the Lakers are trying to get done right now.

Deal 1- The Lakers want most importantly Kevin Garnett to be a Laker. They were prepared to ship Bynum and Odom for his services before the draft, before Ainge backed out of the deal(a blessing in disguise). Since this time, Laker management has mulled it over, and decided that Andrew Bynum is OFF, yes you heard that right ,OFF THE TABLE for any deal involving bringing Kevin Garnett to the Lakers. The rumor that my uncle has been hearing is that Garnett is so dissapointed with Minnesota shopping him, when he was so loyal to them, that he is considering opting out of his contract next year, and signing with us for the full Mid-Level Exception(around 6 million a year). Minnesota knows this, and that is why the Garnett trade talks have heated up. Minnesota is trying to find a partner, but its difficult, since KG, who now feels betrayed is vetoing everything but Phoenix and the Lakers. Since Phoenix is not in a position to acquire Garnett, that leaves just the Los Angeles Lakers as a suitor that Garnett would accept. I am hearing that Mitch and company are waiting for the “fire sale” of Garnett(don’t worry….things are going to heat up even more). The Lakers are hoping to put Minnesota in a position, that they were in , when they let go of Shaquille O’Neal. If it happens, look out. I asked my uncle what might the deal look like then? It appears the Lakers want him now for Kwame Brown, Lamar Odom, Brian Cook and 1st rounder in 2008! We’ll see if this indeed comes to fruition.

Trade #2- Contray to what people may think, the Lakers would love to have Ron Artest in Purple and Gold. The problem is, getting him for the right price. The Lakers before didn’t want to offer Jordan Farmar, since they were wafer-thin at the point guard position. However, with Javaris Crittenton(whom many believe to be the 2nd best point guard prospect in this draft) falling to the Lakers at #19( an absolute gift), the Lakers are now in preliminary talks with Sacramento regarding bringing in hard -nosed Ron Artest. My uncle let it slip that the offer is Vladamir Radmonovic, and Jordan Farmar for Ron Artest! Sacramento likes Farmar very much, but they do not want to deal to the Lakers. However, rest assured Mitch is trying his hardest to get this done.

Mid-Level Exception- They are going after Darko Milicic for the full Mid- Level Exception, but that is contingent upon what they get for the LLE. The Lakers organization, think that with his combination of size, skills and youth, he could be a valuable player on the Lakers and thrive significantly in the triangle offense.

Least- Level Exception- This is where the Lakers are trying to lure Derek Fisher back. They want to bring in back for 2 years at around 1.5 -1.8 million a year. The fact that he knows the triangle, and is a veteran is very valuable for the Lakers.

Chris Mihm- All indications are the Lakers would love to bring him back, but now more than 2.5 million a year, and that is if he is fully healthy enough and cleared to play. If we do not get Darko(a distinct posibility), then resigning Chris becomes even more pertinent for the Lakers organization.

Please understand that all things will get worked out this summer. You can rest assured two players are GUARANTEED back in Purple and Gold: Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum. As soon as more details come my way I will try and post them. Although I do not want to get anyones hopes up. Please understand these are just the things the Lakers organization is working on right now. Things do fall apart unexpectedly(i.e. Garnett to LA before the draft), but rest assured they are working to get something done.

….too good to be true?

I know they like him, obviously they traded their first round picks for him. but there not burning up the east with JJ r they?
And I don’t think they would fare much better with odom tho, it’s not like he’s the kind of person who can bring a winning record to a losing team, it’s just not that appealing to atlanta imo i doubt that trade could happen.
True, i just felt like all these same trade rumors, i wanted something new. but hey Atlanta is desperate to win, you have a line up of, Law, Smith, LO, Horford and Pachula(i think), they could win in the east

I apologize to the Blog Master and All Bloggers.

I have absolutely no intention of polluting this site with garbage but at the same time I have to defend myself against people who have nothing else to do than sitting in front of computer and humiliating other bloggers with personal attacks.

I am here to talk basketball, Lakers, Kobe and Garnett. However, I have a problem with sensationalist journalist like Ric Bucher who spread unfounded rumors and lies just to get ratings and subsequently financial gains. Kobe Bryant and Ric Bucher had a phone conversation on Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend and Ric Bucher came out, changed the phrasing an added his own words to start a war between Kobe and Lakers. Everything started from there. If it wasn’t for Bucher’s lies we would have Garnett by now and I believe it firmly.

My post, actually a harmless joke, is representing my disgusted feeling for this Ric Bucher who is a dangerous enemy of the Lakers.

RC is entitled to his opinion and I respect it. BUT, I have no respect for people who are assertive with their opinion and try to inject it in other bloggers’ mind with repeating the same hatred over and over again wrapped in personal attacks. Actually I don’t have a problem with RC as long as he doesn’t disturb my peace. It wasn’t my intention to get him banned and as far as I am concerned he can comeback anytime. I will try my best to ignore him as long as he is not getting personal.

I am coming from other blog where hatred is on the menu on daily basis and I am trying to find a peaceful sanctuary for my affections for Lakers and basketball.

Again, I am sorry everybody.

Well, with the news of the apology and the positivity with it, and all these news stories of moves made by other teams…the Lakers FO now has to make news that will bring back the excitement of the championship fever experience not felt here for three years…Garnett will bring that fever…Laker nation needs to feel that sickness ASAP!!!

Thanks for your props my fellow bloggers.

Let us talk basketball now:

I want KG as bad as anybody and I hope it happens soon, better today than tomorrow, and it would make me very happy.

Also, I am not an expert by any stretch, I am just a fan reading a lot about the subject and I have a concern and I am asking you guys for your take on this:

Our emotions shouldn’t stop us from taking an unbiased look at our options and crunch some numbers. Salary and Player’s Efficiency in Roster Lineup.

SALARY:
It will cost us about $29-Mil in salary in 07-08 to get KG unless he waives his 15% bonus or part of it. It will take Odom, $13.5-Mil– Bynum, $2.2-Mil—Kwame, $9-Mil plus one more player and some cash. That is just the Dollar face value of the trade.

PLAYERS EFFICIENCY IN ROSTER LINEUP:
To discuss efficiency we shall know that many NBA coaches quickly evaluate a player’s game in checking his efficiency, EFF. And we are going to take that EFF* value to simplify our calculations.
To know more about EFF go to: http://www.nba.com/statistics/efficiency.html

If we trade Odom and Bynum for Garnett they probably will ask for Kwame too, simply because his $9-Mil salary will come of the books by next season. We are left only with four forward players (Mihm is not on the roster as of yet)

Luke Walton 6-8………EFF 14.6 *
Brian Cook 6-9………EFF 7.62 *
Ronny Turiaf 6-10……..EFF 8.08 *
Vlad Radman.6-10……….EFF 6.89 *

Losing Lamar will leave a hole at power forward position. Of course we have KG to take that position, but what about position 5 (center)? If we don’t get a 7 plus footer, PJ probably will use Garnett as 5 and Cook, Turiaf and Radman at 4. So far so good but look at the EFF of the 3 forwards, their TOTAL EFF of about 23 is close to Odom’s EFF of 21 as only one player.

Now here is my concern: Do we need another Power forward if we lose Odom? Could Garnett feel the gap with the above 4 forwards?

Here are some EFF numbers:
Garnett has a solid EFF 29 (I believe highest in NBA)
Pao Gasol has and impressive EFF 25.5 at only $13.7 Mil which could keep Odom (EFF 21) in the roster.
Jermaine O’Neal EFF is 21 and has a $65-Mil salary due over the next 3 years and Pacers won’t trade him unless we give them Odom and that would really weaken the roster.
By the way, Kobe’s EFF is 27.65

If you go to:
http://www.nba.com/statistics/efficiency.html
It will explain the EFF in details. Here is part of the EFF description direct from NBA site”
“How do many NBA coaches quickly evaluate a player’s game performance? They check his efficiency.

NBA.com evaluates all players based on the efficiency formula: ((Points Rebounds Assists Steals Blocks) – ((Field Goals Att. – Field Goals Made) (Free Throws Att. – Free Throws Made) Turnovers)).”

I’ve got to say I was enjoying RC’s posts. Bit of a shame really. I liked the fact that he had a strong opinion and his takes were solid in my view. I was getting a little tired of the Walton is overpaid bench player post but then again I’m sure he’s already tired of my do the deal for JO already post. I’ll miss the guy’s energy and Laker love for sure. RC – I’ll miss ya man. Good strong stuff.

BTW Cyrus nice posts too today in apology. And props to Kobe. It’s good to own up for acting out. No one here I think Blame’s Kobe for his feelings on the subject of the Lakers FO screwing up the last three years, but it’s nice of him to say he did it the wrong way. Everyone outside of LA who hates Kobe needs to remember that the phone video was done without permission, without knowledge, and right at the time Kobe was most upset and his emotions spilling out.

Again, nothing he’s said is stuff we haven’t been saying for a while now. The guy needs some damn help on the team desperately.

• steve

CYRUS.Its a good question and very well thought out. What i think the lakers need to do is bring in a low cost vet(pj-brown)maybe,his body is in way better condition than c-webb.Play ronnie and vlad as well like you said,i say they keep brown until the deadline unless he needs to be part of a deal, mark jackson is not flashy but would come cheap as would steven hunter.Remember teams have won without a high scoring centre before(can any of these guys defend?)maybe not to well but our 9mill a year center cant play a whole year without an injury…i have a question i ask myself as well, why havent we looked at desmond mason?he dosent shoot great but can defend and touch the sky when he takes off..lol.i know the guys i mentioned are not stars but the spurs have players just like them on the bench..ely.they tend to go after caracter guys and it works for them..not meat heads

• Martin

Man, if the Lakers could get Garnett and keep Bynum, that would be amazing. I’m sure a lot of things would have to go right, but it seems that it’s not out of the question. Garnett could man the paint for the Lakers for the next three or four years, while the Lakers continue to develop Bynum. By the time Garnett starts slowing down, Bynum will be able to take over. Plus, if Bynum develops into the dominating post player he appears capable of becoming, that could extend Garnett’s career by a few years, just by playing next to him. Again, I don’t know how possible it is, but if he pulls it off, the haters will have to leave Mitch alone for the rest of forever.

We all know what hatred can do to a blog. We carry the scars from the battle with evil and haters from previous places. We are so lucky to have very alert webmasters who won’t allow this place to become a dumpster for hatred. I am really impressed with their quality control.

Also, I truly feel a great sense of bondage and unity between the fans on this site and that’s priceless. Tonight you all became family to me. I am not the mushy type but that’s how I feel. LOL

Goodnight and happy “KG+KB=NUCLEAR” dreams.

Steve,

Thank you for considering my concern and query.

Honestly, It’s bedtime for me and I don’t want to respond to your post and question just for the sake of talk, without taking a close look at your suggestions and players and some research. I will do it tomorrow. One thing I can answer now is that PJ Brown was on the roster a few years back and somehow it didn’t work. But the suggestion for a reasonably priced center is very valid.

Can I make a suggestion to the GG staff. Maybe making a short list of rules would be beneficial. They do not have to be really strict. Something like:
no posting multiple times
cut down on the profanity
no personal attacks

It might help.

Francis does not work as PG for the lakers. He is not a shooter. He needs the ball in his hands to be an effective scorer. IN the triangle the PG position needs to be filled with someone that has the ability to be an offensive threat without having the ball in his hands. You can not have a bunch of players on the court at the same time that are score first (2nd, and 3rd in some cases) then pass. It does not work that is why Francis and Marbury were not effective. Francis can not pass into the post and really is not a good passer to begin with. Its not talent that wins game. A team wins. I think Lebron James said it best when he said that San Antonio is not the most talented or athletic team, they are just the best team.
Plus Francis is one of the leagues worst malcontents. He has never, and maybe never will win anything. In his entire career he has only one on playoff game. Yes he can score when he tries but not what the lakers need on the team.

• RoWyN

demarcos….i like the idea but how do we guard the following :

Shaq – This means 6 fouls each for Camby, Garnett, Turiaf, Gasol.

Yao – Yao will average 40-50 points against the lakers.

Lebron – We’re not strong at all in SF.

Amare – Camby is too weak, Turiaf is too small, Gasol is too slow

Dwight – Camby is too weak, Turiaf is too small, Gasol is too slow

Wade – Kobe doesn’t guard him most of the time, francis isn’t as quick and is smaller than Wade

—- Also we have a bunch of short ppl: farmar, francis, fisher, evans.

• Vahe

Good thought RoWyN I agree 100%

Rowyn, you do not need spectacular individual defenders to be a good defensive team. The Cavs were one of the best defensive teams and the league and they do not have anyone on their team that are particularly great one-on-one defenders. The way you stop players (or at least make scoring difficult) like Wade, Mello and James is through team defense. It has to be a team effort. It starts with the person playing them, but that is not what gets it done. You have to make the offensive player do what you want him to do. Make him drive to where your help is coming from. Mix coverage up to try to confuse the offensive player or at least make them have to think about what you are doing. This was the lakers biggest problem and was even during the Sha1-Kobe era. For whatever reason there seems to be little communication on the defensive end.
demarcos….i like the idea but how do we guard the following :
Shaq – This means 6 fouls each for Camby, Garnett, Turiaf, Gasol.
Yao – Yao will average 40-50 points against the lakers.
Lebron – We’re not strong at all in SF.
Amare – Camby is too weak, Turiaf is too small, Gasol is too slow
Dwight – Camby is too weak, Turiaf is too small, Gasol is too slow
Wade – Kobe doesn’t guard him most of the time, francis isn’t as quick and is smaller than Wade
ya. thats SIX players. 4 of which reside in the east meaning we wont play them more than twice a year. doesnt really matter though. because why the hell would you want steve francis? and if you can resign chris mihm. you wont need camby. which in turn would let you hold on to luke. which is MUCH cheaper and MUCH smarter. i happen to agree with phil when he says we are one piece away. that one piece being kg.

lakerfan81 – One misconception is that team defense and one-on-one defense is an either/or thing. One-on-One defense is an individual skill while Team Defense is a Team Concept. It’s well-proven that a good implementation of Team Defense is necessary to compete well against great NBA teams. But good one-on-one skills are also necessary to run a good team defense. Don’t say Cavs dont have good one-on-one defenders because they have size and length on their side (Ilgauskas, Varejao, Lebron, etc…. Ever heard of the saying “You don’t teach length/height/size” Not to forget, they have Larry Hughes and Eric Snow, two of the best defenders of the league.

Do you really think 5 slow midgets with great team defense concept can beat say Atlanta Hawks?

KEEPbynum – did you really expect me to name every player in the league?!?! I only mentioned the obvious but hey if you insist here’s some more: Carmelo, Baron Davis, Greg Oden/Lamarcus Aldridge, Deron Williams, ….etc.

Bold Moves: The Lakers, The Wolves, The Rockets and The Kings are all looking at bold trades this July. The Lakers may not get Jermaine O’Neal, despite both parties being willing. The Lakers are holding fast to the “one asset for one asset” philosophy and the team is not willing to trade Kobe Bryant. Marcus Camby was mentioned early in June as a possibility for the Lakers, but informed sources label the Bulls as a more likely suitor for Camby. Jermaine O’Neal wants to be a Laker, but it seems the Nets have the best offer on the table – Richard Jefferson and Nenad Krstic. If The Lakers stay true to their process of “one or the other, not both” with regards to Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum, they could find themselves on the outside looking in, especially with Memphis all but pulling Pau Gasol of the table – reducing the big man market by one All-Star. The Timberwolves did the dance with Kevin Garnett at draft time and the Warriors continue to try to move the Wolves back to the table with an offer of Monta Ellis, Brandan Wright and Patrick O’Bryant on the table according to league sources – it would likely include Adonal Foyle and others for cap reasons. The Wolves, according to a source close to the team, said at the end of the day the team feels there is more value in Kevin Garnett at the deadline or in a sign-and-trade next summer, saying they seriously doubted Kevin would leave $6 to $8 million a year on the table to walk away as a free agent. The Wolves, at least for now, plan to come to camp with Kevin Garnett unless the offers get considerably better. The Sacramento Kings are supposedly shopping Ron Artest pretty aggressively; the Orlando Magic were said to considering an Artest for Hedo Turkoglu swap. With Rashard Lewis coming in the deal makes sense. However Magic GM Otis Smith has said several times character matters to him more than talent – but he also said re-signing Darko Milicic was a priority. Stan Van Gundy might be a strong enough coach to handle Ron-Ron so maybe there is substance to the idea. Otis said yesterday that the Kings called him and it was nothing more than talk, but he also said that the day before trading for Darko Milicic and Carlos Arroyo. The Kings are also rumored to be shopping Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Mike Bibby. The Kings reportedly have interest in Marcus Camby, so it is possible a three-way deal gets done that moves out the unwanted pieces. The Rockets said early in the draft process they seriously doubted they’d get anything of substance in the draft and that real improvements would come in trade. The Rockets are said to be looking for a veteran forward and have the favorable contract of Bob Sura as bait. Sura has a $1 million buyout and an over $3 million cap value, making his an easy pill to swallow for a team looking for cap relief. Luther Head is a name most feel will be traded to return a veteran forward. Luther is a guy the Nuggets are said to covet, having asked about him several times in the last year according to sources. Given the extra bigs the Nuggets have on the roster, and a desire to clear a little space, a deal could be there for Houston.

Ron Artest: The Kings will move Ron-Ron, the question becomes where? The Magic are supposedly talking Hedo Turkoglu for Ron while the Lakers are supposedly talking Kwame Brown’s ending deal for Ron. There are suitors willing to entertain Ron Artest, it seems it’s just a matter of when, not if.

Rowyn I agree I was just trying to point out that If you have solid interior defense to help out then the exterior defense is automatically better, assuming everyone communicates. You don’t need a Bowen to have a good defense, though it helps (Duncan also helps), if you have five guys that can defend willing to work as a team.

• mR.beaSt

i hope that deal that darkice posted goes down (the 1 from the clublakers forum). getting KG while keeping Bynum, re-signing Mihm, getting a FA like Drako, plus trading for Artest? man. now i’m all nervous and giddy just thinking of that lineup. great players with lots of youth still on the bench. the Wolves know that the Lakers are the only team that will sacrifice good players for KG, and the deal of Kwame, Odom, Cook, and 08 1st rounder is probably the best one proposed. an expiring contract, a standout SF that could be a PF, a backup PF, and a first round pick? hell, that’s bordering on overpaying fof KG. the Kings will take the Radman, Farmar for Artest deal because they need a young PG and get a good 3 point shooting SF in return. we might not really need Darko, so you could overpay for Fisher and still have enough to get maybe C. Web. that’s a team with a LOT of edge.

C: Bynum/Mihm/Gasol
PF: KG/Ronnie/C.Web
SF: Artest/Walton/Sun Yue
SG: Kobe/Evans/Sasha
PG: Fisher/Crittenton

i know this lineup was listed up there, but it’s fun just typing it and imagining it. dang, that’s still a deep bench too! i put Sun Yue in the SF position because he was forced to play that during his workouts. i think Yue could be like Evans and be able to play both Gaurd and SF. having Fisher gives a team an edge, but add Artest and KG with a player like Kobe with All-First Defense team honors and a solid rebounder/blocker with potential like Bynum, and this could be the best defensive team, even rivaling San Antonio and the toughness of the Pistons. i gotta calm down. i hope all these moves happen. keeping Bynum and getting KG? man. and what a bench! i can just picture them taking tips day in and day out from these elite starters! Bynum would be getting tips from both Kareem AND KG! imagine what that would do for his growth! i have a good feeling about the Lakers. i knew something was going down! if we get both KG and Artest without losing Bynum i think i might die of happiness. Showtime will return to the City of Angels, and when we win the next 15 Championships i’m going to be thinking of how happy i am that i’m not a Clipper fan

• kobeownsU

I dont believe there is any possibility in keeping bynum and getting garnett or JO, unless either the pacers or timberwolves get really desperate, but that i highly doubt. I dont really care how early or often bynum comes in to work out, its his job, he gets paid to do it, so to keep him because hes showing that he is willing to get better makes no sense. if he would have done this two years ago when he got drafted and continued to work hard we probably wouldnt be having these conversations.

BTW we gotta sign fish, i mean he knows the system, hes a vetern that can lead both by examople and verbally, and it may even make Kobe a lil less demanding.

with fish, walton, Kobe, KG, and mihm(hopefully hell take the vets min). i think we can win wit that and maybe trade for artest if the kings are willing to take kwame and maybe throw in cook, see if they bite.

• J-Cool

I Vote For RC Ban Be Lifted As Well.

• mR.beaSt

i don’t think we should get JO. they’ll be asking for Bynum and LO, which i don’t think is a good deal because aside from blocks, LO is basically JO. if we give them Bynum too, then they’d be raping us. he’s too expensive. i was reading stuff on Pacers and Wolves forums, and they would take LO plus Bynum and fillers for JO/KG in a heartbear. even they know that we were overpaying, and Wolves fans didn’t know why their FO rejected Kwame plus LO plus Bynum for KG. we would be better off getting Gasol than JO, but KG might be worth the price

• Fatty

Mr.Beast

C: Bynum/Mihm
PF: KG/Ronnie/C.Web
SF: Artest/Walton/Sun Yue

i know this lineup was listed up there, but it’s fun just typing it and imagining it.

yeah. that’s what i hat about the offseason though. there are a bunch of BS articles and people that are supposedly related to people in management get fake inside info. the other day i read one that said that Kobe was traded to the Suns for Marion, Diaw, and an 08 first round pick. i hate waiting for real results…

• shins74

We can trade for a player until that trading deadline? or do we have to trade for a player before the free agency period ends?

• cyrus

Steven,

As promised:

Regarding your response to my query:

We know Weber can play although his EFF has fallen to 14.65. He’s turnover and injury prone requiring high maintenance. He’s 34 years old and I would take him at veteran’s salary but I think he’s looking for more money than Lakers are ready to pay for the 6-10 forward.

I don’t know much about Marc Jackson other than published stats he has an EFF 6.77. At 33, he must be experienced. I prefer Weber over Jackson.

Steven Hunter is not a free agent. He has 3 more years left on his contract with almost $11.-Mil. It would require a trade and with his EFF at 8.86 I don’t know who we would trade for him. At 48%, Hunter is terrible FT shooter. But at 7 feet he probably has an excuse.

At 6-5, Desmond Mason is a guard. Great defender but not very good ball handler.

Bottom line; we must find a way to keep Lamar and at the same time have a full time “big man” in front. KG, JO or Gasol. Lamar with EFF 21 is an excellent power forward and if PJ decide to use any of the 3 (KG, JO,PG) as center, we will have an hard-to-fill power forward position in Odom’s absence.

Again, I love to get KG and we should get him if we are given the opportunity. If not KG, I prefer Gasol over JO because Gasol is 7-1, perfect center and at only $13.7-Mil we could keep Lamar. That would be the rational choice. Gasol EFF is 25.5

• RoWyN

lakerfan81 – I think we’re on the same page and I just happenned to mislead you with that one post. I’m trying to say that we need to have excellent defenders at every position but more good individual defenders mean lesser adjustments in team defense. A mismatch in one position means one or two adjustments per play. But I agree that there will always be mismatches when plaing 29 other teams. But that’s why we have to build a roster of 12 to 15 people where these mismatches can be minimized and at the same time create advantages in the offense.

• mR.beaSt

if we keep Bynum at C and land KG/Gasol, we would still need depth at the C/PF position. we’d only have Bynum and maybe Marc Gasol/Mihm at the C, with KG/Gasol, Ronnie, and possibly Radman and Cook if they’re not traded. injuries to big men are commin, and if 1 of those gets hurt then we’re screwed. we should sign C-Web for a ‘just in case’ situation. he had a lot of good scoring/rebounding games last season and could bring lots of experience and knowledge to the team. he could possibly help Ronnie too. as for his price, this guy has enough stacks that he’s stashed away throughout his career and is in search of a team capable of winning a ring. kinda like Grant Hill. if we sign Fish and get Gasol/KG or even JO, he would ASK for LA to sign him

a lot of people think that Artest is a HUGE risk that we might not be willing to take, but i think he would be great for this team. remember what happened to the Pacers after they traded him? they went from a championship contender to not making the playoffs at all. a player with that type of impace with such a low price tag would be a steal for any team. as for his outbursts, PJ handled Rodamn didn’t he? Artest is a great scorer with a great 3pt% and is a tough-nosed player. he can gaurd anyone. you don’t trust me? look at what he did to Nowitzki when the Mavs played the Kings. he shot like 5 of 16 or something, far below his overrated ‘above 50 percent’ shooting. i think Artest would be great in this team and maybe become even more of an offensive threat. what do you think?

I just read a fantastic analysis of what a contender needs. I keep hearing everyone say make the trade for KG or O’neal (myself included) but everyone is overlooking what it really takes to be a contender, the two or three stars are required, but it also takes quality veteran role players. If you look at the lakres championship teams or the spurs or the Heat, what did they all have around their stars, veterans. The lakers had Harper, Fox, Horry, Shaw, Fisher; the spurs have Bowen, Barry, Horry; the heat had Mourning, Posey. These are guys that are not the best at their positions. Their old, unathletic compared to many other players at their position, probably going down hill. But they bring all the intangibles. They space the floor both defensively and offensively, they make the big shots, they play the gritty smart defense. Do you remember Rick Fox completely frustrating Stojakavich? Ahh the glory days.
