ESPN: It hasn’t taken long for Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant to get comfortable playing together.

Gasol had 30 points and nine rebounds to go with Bryant’s 36 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic 117-113 Friday night.

It was just Gasol’s third game in a Laker uniform, but he and Bryant ran the pick-and-roll play so effectively, they looked as though they had been playing together for years.

They combined for 39 points in the first half to help Los Angeles withstand a 64-point first half by Orlando.

“With all [Gasol’s] skills, it’s going to be a seamless transition for us,” Bryant said. “He has the ability to do everything on the floor, whether it?s pass, shoot, rebound or defend. Adding him makes us a very strong team.”

Gasol was 12-for-15 from the field, beating Magic defenders from both the perimeter and in the paint.

“Having Kobe takes a whole lot of pressure off my shoulders,” Gasol said. “This is an amazing opportunity for me and I want to make the very best of it every single night.”

The game scared me a bit when the magic rallied and even took the lead for a moment, but Pau did a good job on his fishing expedition on Howard despite of that 30 point production. The Kobe cross over and dunk in the middle is nasty! I love his hang time too. It could have been sweeter if Howard got up and contested that shot. I’m sure Kobe can posterize him.

no Marion is not the key the next great move would be to ship Fluke and a pick out to Sac for Artest

  • MILO

Pau did really good going up against a very athletic and dangerous Howard, now! imagine waht he’ll do against an old injury prone Shaq we own Phony no matter what stupid trade they come up with ha ha ha im loving it so much i cant wait till the 20th the suns are pathetic!!!

  • raphaelr

People have called Pau soft, and not a great defender. But from what I saw tonight, he held Howard to 16 and 11, which isn’t great by Howard’s standards. Seriously, if he can do fine against Howard, who else in the entire NBA has more of a power game than Howard?

  • LAKER4lIFE

I agree I thought Pau played him well on the Defansive end and he did a great job attacking him on the post and getting him into foul trouble. I see why Pheonix is scared. Pau is going to kill the Big SHACKTUS. hahahahha

I heard on am570 radio today that Mitch Kupchak having had such great results with the Pau Gasol deal, is trying to make another deal with the Grizzlies. The rumor that was reported would send Coby Karl and a second round pick to the Grizzlies for Juan Carlos Navarro(Paul Gasol’s best friend).

WOW!!! If Mitch can pull this one it might be another steal in the making. Navarro has great chemistry with Pau, and work well together. Apparently Navarro wants to come over to the Lakers because of Pau being shipped over here, and is not very happy right now.

    To Grizzlies:
    Coby Karl
    2nd round pick

    To Lakers:
    Juan Carlos Navarro

    Found this on:

dont for get aboout my boy Ariza. there is still a need for his defense, then Kobe can relax and focus on scoring and guarding the other teams second option…….Also when bynum comes back defense is gonna be crazy, due to the fact of the help defense he brings. Gasol doesnt need to guards the powerful bigs we have bynum and odom for that, when we at full strength, there are way to many line-ups to work with. Lastly did yall see SASHA show that Passion. But he still needs to cut that hair.

  • KB24 RULEZ!!!

I think Shawn Marion is Better than Artest..Marion is a better rebounder dan Artest, also a high flyer and scorer..just my opinion..so i thnk marion is more better..and also artest could lead the lakers into another brawl…hehehe..just kiddin..

  • skeptic

we are fine the way we are… no more trades… we got the best starting 5 in the league and when Ariza and even Mihm come back our bench is set. not to mention we can always keep 1 or 2 starters in every possession! Best team in the league!! Dynasty!!!!!!

  • myriam

Don’t forget to mention the nice play of LO and Dfish. The team blend well against Magic. Hope they continue playing their best for the next remaining game.

  • GotGasol.com

What a game!!! We are doing great! no trades needed just need the team to be 100% healthy and PJ will have his hands full with great players to choose from!

foul trouble made howard less playing time
    nothing to do with pau

  • two0one7

[Comment ID #25453 Will Be Quoted Here]

And why do you think he was in foul trouble? It had everything to do with Pau. Pau drew 2 offensive fouls on dwight as well as baited him into one defensively.

  • Nabil

Gotta love that picture of Pau. How many times did Kwame let out a “barbaric yalp”?

  • Nabil

Yo Lamar deserves big props for that GREAT block at the end.
However, when Bynum and Gasol are on the court, don’t you think a sharpshooter on the outside is what’s really needed at SF? Whoevers covering Lamar would gladly leave him open for a three to come help out down low.
But would that same defender leave Peja wide open?
I think it might just work-

not gonna happen and atleast odom can Defend people, PEja wont defend no one

  • ric j

we have a lot of players that can shoot out side…. no need to trade lamar…… kobe can stay sf position, or radman too….

  • Nabil

Yeah, that is a major hole in his game….maybe the Zen Master told Lamar to start working more on his long range game. I hope so.

naa! how about Fluke and Coby for Millier, Navarro is going to have to adjust to playing w-out Pau i mean c’mon he’s got the opportunity to play in thye NBA he should consider that a blessing in its self sh!t

  • T-Dub

What most of us have been asking for. Its amazing what one little trade can do.

  • thomas thomas

lets not make any trades because the lakers need to adjust to playing with each other, but we can possibly make an adjustment by moving coby karl down to the d-league. if we are going to make a trade, trade mihm

  • Phant0M

    No don’t trade mihm
Hes backing up andrew once he comes back..

I say we keep this team as it is.

  • KB

i saY WE SHOULD TRADE LUKE AN COBY KARL 4 MIKE MILLER

  • http://getgarnett.com jonasjulienjoseph

    C- ANDEW BYNUM/RONNY TURIAF/CHRIS MIHM
    PF- PAU GASOL/VLADIMIR RADMONOVICH
    SF- LAMAR ODOM/TREVER ARIZA/LUKE WALTON
    SG- KOBE BRYANT/SASHA VUJACIC/COBY KARL
    PG- DEREK FISHER/JORDAN FARMAR

NOW I KNOW DJ IS NOT ON THE LIST HE HAS BEEN PLAYING GOOD, BUT INTILL HE GETS THAT CONTRACT HES NOT GONNA BE ON THE DEPTH LIST BUT I HOPE HE IS

  • DCLAKER

NAIL BITER is the way I describe the game but DAMN 66 POINTS BY KB/PG,WHOA! When AB comes back you add 19 to 25 more points to that.Do they need to make anymore trades? To be honest,NO because I know Luke is not the best player and sometimes is a little SCARED to shoot the pill but he comes through in the playoffs fighting for offensive rebounds and other hustle plays plus he’s still hurt so I’ll give him and so will Mitch, give him the benefit of the doubt. If I could trade knowing I could get back some more great value,I’d trade Mihm and C.Karl for Gerald Green(package him with A.Walker)and that would be almost unfair to the NBA,period. Our 2nd unit would SICK,I mean Farmar,Green,Turiaf,Ariza, and AB or Pau,OH MY GOD HERES COMES LAKEZILLA!!!!

Of course you doubted the Lakers FO. The Lakers FO were only going to make a trade if it made the Lakers better in the short term and long term, as this trade does.

Not to mention, this trade was also made to keep the Lakers strong should Kobe still opt out after next year. Again, another point that demonstrates the Lakers FO made a trade to make them better in the short and LONG term.

  • DCLAKER

Phantom,Mihm hasn’t played a full season since he’s been with the Lakeshow,IT’S PICK IT UP OR PACK IT UP TIME NOW,NO MO’FREE CHECKS! I know somewhere Smush is mad as hell at that one.TRADE HIS A!@ NOW! MIHMGETSTRADEDFORWHO.com IN FULL EFFECT!!!

  • lakersforlife77

Did anybody else notice that ever since Gasol has come to the Lakers Lamar Odom has been hitting threes? And making some of his layups?

  • LakersFirst (Change) (Close)

[Comment ID #25536 Will Be Quoted Here]

I have! Odom seems to play exceptionally well when he goes unnoticed and the pressure of HAVING to score is off of him. People expect Gasol to be the second scorer now. With this pressure off of Odom, he now seems to be playing much better.
