Backup unit shines like Showtime

Call them the bench mob, energy makers or the young studs… but this Lakers’ second unit put up such impressive numbers last game, not even the three-peat bench achieved such an accomplishment. Last bench-mob to do it — the Showtime Lakers:

Lakers.com Basketblog: The Lakers bench scored 73 points, the most points Lakers reserves have scored since April 24, 1988. In all, five bench players scored in double figures, the first time that has happened since March 9, 1985.

Thanks to the terrific scoring from our bench, we handed the Bulls their worse loss to the Lakers in their franchise history:

Yahoo Sports: Los Angeles blew the game open by scoring 18 straight points to finish the third quarter and start the fourth for an 81-60 lead with 9:45 remaining. All 18 points were scored by reserves.

The Bulls weren’t closer than 15 points after that, and suffered their most lopsided loss ever to the Lakers. The previous record margin was 27 points in 1968.

I like the way Farmar makes things happen with his agressive defense!!!

our bench is what makes this team special. slow, laid back starters + deep explosive bench + the quickened up tri keeps other teams guessing and makes us unpredictable for the whole 48 mins.

our only knock imo is still our Turn Overs and our defense that sometimes slacks off for long periods of time.
