Call them the bench mob, energy makers or the young studs… but this Lakers’ second unit put up such impressive numbers last game, not even the three-peat bench achieved such an accomplishment. Last bench-mob to do it — the Showtime Lakers: Basketblog: The Lakers bench scored 73 points, the most points Lakers reserves have scored since April 24, 1988. In all, five bench players scored in double figures, the first time that has happened since March 9, 1985.

Thanks to the terrific scoring from our bench, we handed the Bulls their worse loss to the Lakers in their franchise history:

Yahoo Sports: Los Angeles blew the game open by scoring 18 straight points to finish the third quarter and start the fourth for an 81-60 lead with 9:45 remaining. All 18 points were scored by reserves.

The Bulls weren’t closer than 15 points after that, and suffered their most lopsided loss ever to the Lakers. The previous record margin was 27 points in 1968.
