Arenas says L.A. is a possible destination when he opts out next season

Can you imagine Mamba and Agent Zero running the backcourt? Oh my… Sound-off in the comments and tell us what you think.

Complex: Complex: So you mentioned that you’d opt out after this season what cities would be your top choices to play in?

Gilbert Arenas: L.A., San Antonio, Dallas, Houston

Complex: Could you’d play with Kobe?

Gilbert Arenas: Yeah. Cause mentally I’m strong enough to play with him. I don’t think everybody’s ready for his mental challenge.

Complex: So you don’t think he’s a cancer?

Gilbert Arenas: You see with Kobe I don’t pay attention; I already know his game because he’s a mental person. So I can deal with that because I know, I’m a mental person too. So I know if he says, “Gil lets work out for 3 hours,” I know the only thing he’s trying to do is, go 3 hours so I can quit. He’s not there to make me look better or make me better. He’s there to put me to quits so I know, it’s up to me to last 3 hours.

Hm. . . Black Mamba and Agent Zero? Kobe and Arenas? 24 and 0? Im not sure if these guys can work together? Its a very strange back court but definitely one that would sent chills down opposing teams backs. Just dont know if the ball is big enough for them.

Would kobe love it to have him at his side? sure.
Would there be a price to get him? OH YEAH.

Realistically. Can the Lakers get Gilbert Arenas?
    HELL NO!
Unless they drop massive amounts of salary.

Still it depends if Gilbert will drop the money and play for the ring with kobe.

    Hey who knows?

If bynum has his break out season maybe we could see this.

    PG: Arenas
    SG: Bryant
    SF: Odom
    PF:?
    C:Bynum

    not bad, ehe?

that would be nasty!!! we could offer him wat 10-15 mil?

  • SILO
that would be nasty!!! we could offer him wat 10-15 mil?
HAHAHHA.

Gilbert, if he wants the money more than the ring.
Look for a contract along the sides of, 5yrs and 80m-125m.
with players like Maurice,Kwame and some useless guards, we still wouldnt have enough room to sign him to the contract money he deserves.

Especially now that he is a all star in this league. Pray he wants the ring.

  • E

kwame’s contract year…we can get rid of him if bynum does well this year…and a few other ppl are going into free agency next season..maybe we can make way for agent zero

  • Mien

“kobe is mental…what the hell is Gil talking about?” Well I still say Lakers hold on to kobe this season and wait to see if they sign any FA next summer to play with kobe…ie Elton Brand, Gil Arenas and J.Oneal etc etc. I think both these guys will do just PERFECTLY FINE playing alongside each other. The triangle is a system that promotes passing and movements. Kobe and Gil could both avg 6 assist in this system easily. This is not an offense where the ball is always in one person’s hand and asked to come of screens to create for the others. THEY WILL DO FINE. BUSS PLEASE DON’T TRADE KOBE NOW, WAIT TILL TRADE DEADLINE of 08-09 season to trade him. I’m sure between now and feb 09 this team would avg 1)Progressed 2) one of our younger guys will have a break out inorder to be a valuable trade piece 3) We would acquire another star to appease kobe. If any of these happens, kobe is bound to stay

  • ricky

hmm, this is interesting. arenas has become a star after being picked in the 2nd round, 31st overall back in 2001. its hard to wonder if he will be willing to join the lakers because we are no longer considered an “elite team”. however, the thought of playing with kobe and leading a young team could entice him to come aboard. i still can’t see the big 3 of arenas, jamison, and butler break apart; but perhaps joining with the lakers will be better because the new big 3 would consist of arenas, odom, and bryant. now that will send chills down any teams’ spine. also, with the development of andrew bynum, farmar, and crittenton; the state of the lakers could become very interesting. but again, its hard to see washington not fight to keep him by giving him a max deal once he opts out.

  • kyler_hay

Hell yea dude Kobe and Gilbert and LO thats better than the three fags over in boston i can see Agent Zero playing with a pay cut

  • http://hzmdesigns.com hZm

Not gonna happen. We can’t afford him at all.

  • PHANTOM

arenas is going to get over a 100 mil. and stay with washington.

  • http://myspace.com/awkman einyo

maggette will be a laker next season, that will make kobe happy and we can afford him

  • foxxy

I THINK COREY MAGGETTE WOULD BE A BETTER FIT THAN AGENT 0…GIL DOESNT PLAY ANY DEFENSE…COREY IS FIERCE!!!

  • MILO

Gil is a dumb a$$ clown we dont need that here plus he’s a Kobe hater i doubt he and Kobe can co-exist.Who ever wrote this artical is only trying to promote a Kobe trade as well.

  • http://www.myspace.com/priceless1 priceless1

    nothing has worked!

who knows kobe might still want to leave n we will have arenas as our star?

As long as we still have 1 star to keep our playoff hopes alive n build around that player, im good!

  • double

What is Gilbert talking about? He clearly doesn’t have the right approach to playing with Kobe. I know Gil is a Kobe fan, perhaps he’s looking for the challenge where other players have failed.

We may not be a top-tier team right now, but the Lakers have a top-tier legacy in the best city to live – that will always lure players.

  • TheLAunit

Getting Agent Zero and having Kobe would be great. Kobe is a team player when the team shows up. If the team lacks then Kobe will go to work. If Kobe knows that he has help, someone who will put up 25 to 35 or even more anight, a real go to guy. Kobe will love it and make it last however long it last. We know that kwame is gone and i’m hoping for Cook to be cut so next year we should get Arenas.Blac Mamba & Agent 0, habache

thats all assuming phil jackson will still be coaching next year and running the triangle offense.

Gilbert lists Kobe as his favorite player in the league. He looks up to Kobe in way.

Having Gilbert here would benifit both the team and the city.

We just simply don’t have enough money under the CAP to sign him. But on the other hand, if any big name player is crazy enough to turn down that kind of money, its gotta be Agent 0.

Our backcourt alone would be jacking up atleast 50 shots a game.

  • PHANTOM

If washington new for sure he was leaving they might be willing to take lamar for trade. then we could sign arenas to a big contract (larry bird rule).

And hope to land Webber via FA?

    I can see a starting line-up of…

    Arenas
    Kobe
    Walton
    Webber
    Mihm

Doing very well. We’ll need to throw in another player to even out Gilberts potential big contract.

… But this will never happen. Just thinking out loud.

  • PHANTOM

Lakers are a big market and should be able to absorb the big contract of arenas. Buss should not worry about the luxary tax, he’ll just have to buy cheaper hookers!!! lmfao

  • lakerfan81

    Would there be two balls?

  • Brandon

Gil and Kobe could work together. Look how Kobe played when he was on team USA. It would take a load off the scoring and Kobe could play more defense. Plus, Gil is from So Cal, born and raised here.

  • fatty

The Commish would implement the new two ball rule to try and draw attention away from the Refs fixing games issue.

But seriously, a sign and trade is the only way we could sign Agent 0. But we would be tying up 40 mil plus in just two players. It would eventually put us way over the Lux Cap and ruin the Lakers finacially.

But, WHAT A WAY TO GO ! Yeah Baby!

  • http://mike2008.wordpress.com laker_27

as long as it could keep kobe in L.A., lakers should try to sign him

  • http://www.mr47.com mr47

We do have a few lakers coming off the books this year, we can definitely afford him next year. Not as much as washington, but we can offer a lot. Kwame Sasha alone clears out about 12 mil (estimating), which means we have SOME room for agent 0.

On the other hand, i dislike gilbert arenas. I would be forced to like him if he came but i don’t like him right now. I would rather go after Jermaine Oneal, keep fish (let farmar and jcritt develop), then have bynum as the backup job to JO.

Gilbert Arenas 2 da Lakers. Not gonna happen!!!!!

  • David

About the salary cap. Please view

    http://hoopshype.com/salaries/la_lakers.htm

That doesn’t take into account Fisher and Ronny’s contract for next year. The nba salary cap for next year will be around 57 million. As you can see, we are still over the salary cap until Lamars contract is off the books. That being said, in order to bring in a player like Arenas or whoever and give them big money this would be how to do it. Sign them to a 3 year vet min contract or 3 1 year contracts so they can qualify for the Larry Bird Rule then give them a huge multi year extension. Another way I think would be to give them the MLE for 3 years so they obtain their bird rights and then give them whatever amount desired. We can do this with Ron Artest and Jermaine O’neal too if they’re willing to take a 3 year pay cut.

  • lakerfan81

    David

Isn’t that what McHale got into trouble for and lost a few draft picks?

  • http://www.lakers.com Ed

I’m a senior at Grant where Gilbert graduated High School from and I asked Gilbert’s coach who Gilbert’s favorite player is and he told that he knows for a fact that it is KOBE!!!!

  • shawn

No, he paid Joe Smith under the table.

  • fatty

    David,

    From Wikipedia:

In 1998, Smith was involved in a salary cap-tampering scandal involving Timberwolves executive Kevin McHale. Smith was allegedly promised a future multimillion dollar deal if he signed with the team for below market value, allowing the team to make some additional player moves in the short term. The league later found out about this violation and voided the last year of the contract, also severely punishing the Timberwolves by taking away five first-round draft picks and fining the team $3.5 million.[1] Smith became a free agent and signed with the Pistons, returning to Minnesota the following year.

  • Speyerd

I don’t even know what the hell Gilbert is talking about. Has anybody ever seen the Katt Williams special where he talks about politicians being pimps cause they never make any sense? Gilbert must be a pimp, cause nobody can follow that roundabout logic.

  • kgmvp

    One message for Agent 0

SIGN WITH THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS ok Save our franchise

  • zms

    pg.arenas
    sg.bryant
