Amar’e Stoudemire was asked by New York’s Hot 97 radio reporter Peter Rosenberg, what it was like playing against Lakers All-Star Pau Gasol, and if he considers him soft.
“He’s still soft, you know what I mean”, Amar’e said with a laugh. “He’s a good player, but he has help down there with Lamar Odom, (and) Andrew Bynum. Those 7-footers down there, so he has a supporting cast.” Stoudemire said.
This is not the first time Stoudemire has had harsh comments against a Lakers player. In Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals last year, as a member of the Phoenix Suns, Stoudemire said this about Lamar Odom’s 19 points, and 19 rebounds in Game 1:
“I’m not giving him no hype right now; he had a lucky game in Game 1. We just got to make sure we box him out. I think I focused so much on [Pau] Gasol and [Andrew] Bynum to where he snuck in there and got 19 boards.”
Not much to make out of this, as the Lakers and Knicks do not play again this year. Also, the likelihood of the Knicks reaching the NBA finals are very slim, considering their lackluster play even with the addition of Carmelo Anthony. (Video of the recent comments from Amar’e after the jump)
