It is amazing to see how well the Lakers have managed their payroll and even more amazing to see some of the higher contracts. We are fortunate to have a business savvy, successful owner. Here is the list provided by HoopsHype.

1. Kobe Bryant LA Lakers
$24,806,250

2. Rashard Lewis Orlando
$20,514,000

3. Kevin Garnett Boston
$18,800,000

Can’t believe Rashard has higher salary than Dwight. LOL

Yeah. lol. Clearly Lewis is overpaid.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TLN24 Marwan Marzina

Kobe earns every single penny he is getting paid.

  • LkrFn4Lf

How the hell is Andrei Kirilenko number 7 in the league???

    • mike

I think a better question is how did Darko Milicic earn a 20 million dollar contract this year?

  • Flow

This will change drastically next year. Joe johnson of all people will be near the top, Pau… who deserves it, goes to 22 mil, Boozer and Stoudamire will also go to the top. And since this is last years list, Shaq at 20 mil should have been on it. Still good info.

    • yash

Actually this is this years list. cuz Lebron and Bosh are gettin 14.5 mill

  • LakersFan808

And deserves every cent. You can even argue that he’s underpaid IMHO

what about when hes gonna get 30 million in 2014?? wats dat gonna be… more than half of d salary cup

    • ceballos-neverforget

I hate when people make the teacher/pro athlete argument. The amount of money paid to teachers compared to the money paid to athletes is apples and oranges. There are literally millions of people in this world who are professional teachers. Meanwhile, there are only somewhere around (30 teams x 15 roster spots) 450 people in the entire WORLD who can be a NBA professional. Like LkrFn4Lf says, that’s capitalism. Almost anyone with a college education can be a teacher, but almost no one can do what Kobe does.

      • Too many people live in perverted fantasies. I know you won’t admit it, but that doesn’t mean you’re not guilty.

The teacher argument actually has more merit than you think. You see, people see things the opposite way. They buy the idea that lavish entertainment salary is justified as long as people approve of it. And because this society is full self-indulgent, greedy, lustful, and materialistic people, they will of course endorse overpaying of celebrities and athletes, for the majority wish those fantasies on themselves.

Directly, an athlete’s “work” provides no more productivity than a spoiled actor. Though it is true that many can do a teacher’s job, it is also true that their work is more meaningful to the average person’s life than an athlete’s fancy example of life. Teaching is a profession in real life that prepares kids and young adults to go make a difference in the world, like designing new machines and synthesizing new medicine.

Can many people teach? Sure. But do the few millionaire athletes help prepare real people for real world careers? Nope. Your logic fails at productivity, practicality, and analogy. An athlete’s career is not productive for the people as it is for businesses that produce nothing but entertainment. Businesses that don’t manufacture goods or advance the world’s technologies don’t help the country prosper. In terms of practicality, people don’t make a living by playing basketball, at least not most of them. They put food on the table by working honest jobs that you spit on, like teaching. As for analogy failure, you are comparing everyday teachers to world class athletes. This is so that you can avoid comparing street ballers to teachers. The ballers don’t make any money, the teachers do. Why? Because they deserve it, while playing basketball doesn’t produce anything in itself other than exercise and fun.

If your logic is absolute, then one can make statements like, “Look at that professor/scientist who is research a cure for so and so disease. Do athletes even know where to begin in a lab? Absolutely not.” Furthermore, according to your logic, a scientist should make millions, tens of millions, or even billions like LeBrick and Tiger Woods have the potential to earn, based on the YOUR premise that, “If not many people can do that, the ones that can should earn millions.”

Well then. Now that I have exposed your corrupted mind set to shreds, answer why an Albert Einstein-like scientist should be, but is not earning, millions and billions of dollars? Another logic toppled.

  • Robert.

The Lakers franchise is probably the only organization that can afford to pay the greatest players in the league what they can ‘afford’. Lakers is an international brand, and Buss would not pay his players that much if he weren’t receiving $$$ from the great marketing (heck, they don’t even have to do too much more than win Championships – everybody in the world knows the Lakers).
    .
I expect that after the CBA, and the potential future drop in the salary cap/luxury tax, that the Lakers and Miami will stand alone as the top grossing franchises of the next 5 years or so. Other teams will drop off the face of the earth, but anytime the Lakers or Miami visit, there will be lots of $$ made for both teams.
    .
In the meantime, Miami will be incapable of stocking its team with more superstars (they’re already out $48M for the 3, close to the cap), so that team will have to make do with what they have. In fact, the 3 stars would prob. have to sign for even less in a few years, when their contracts come up again for renewal. I mean, $16M is nothing to sneeze at, but it ain’t even close to $30M.

  • Jerry

kobe is #1, as always :)

      .
you should think before you say any of your smart ass comments, but then again you help entertain and keep the forum lively.
      .
only 8 of the top 30 salary players HAVE a championship ring. shelling out big money to a superstar doesn’t automatically guarantee a ring, let alone multiple ones. only 5 of those top 30 HAVE multiple rings.

      • 242LakerFan

Yeah, the owners who should be complaining are the ones who’ve gotten nothing back on their investment.
Dr. Buss has five O’B’s…and counting.
The poor schmucks who own Orlando, Milwaukee, Utah, Houston, Dallas and Washington are spending $109.4 mil on their top earners and they’ve got jack to show for it (unless you count Dirk’s MVP). And that’s just in the top 10. Hell, four of those players aren’t even the best player on the team!

more like a dollar for every tear non-Lakers fans will shed this season when their team loses.

  • Robert.

Although we could easily make this a forum for “should entertainers, athletes, etc. be paid more than teachers and educators”, the blog topic is more along the lines of “Kobe Bryant should indeed be paid more than any player in the NBA”, whatever the pay scale is.
    .
Besides being the greatest player in the game, on the greatest basketball franchise in the world, the “Lakers” is a huge international brand, and rakes in tons of $$. So, with Buss’ income from all this, I’m sure that $30M is a small investment for a huge return.
    .
Sadly, many of us blogging here (some professionals, I’m sure) may have to continue to struggle to make ends meet, esp. during this recession. But that is not the topic here.

  • Robert.

U think MJ is greater than Bryant? Or Magic? Maybe now, but I think KB has a good run at the ‘real’ greatest player ever, Wilt Chamberlain. 100 points for a center is remarkable, but 81 points for a shooting guard is virtually impossible.
    .
    Give it 5 more years.

  • http://57.amklac laffs atu

NEVER compare JORDAN with bryant.kobe can`t shoot 50%and doesn`t make anyone better.when bryants surrounded by allstars he wins.remove gasol and kobe,s vince carter.

  • SHOWTIME4EVA

LAFFS YOUR ALWAYS TALKIN OUTTA YOUR ASS WITH NO GROUND!!! KOBE IS AS GREAT AS MJ IF NOT GREATER! HERES SOME STATS FROM THE FINALS Case in point, the 1996 NBA Finals: Chicago Bulls VS Seattle Sonics…

Michael Jordan’s stats through 6 games in the 1996 NBA Finals:

    Age – 33 years, 4 months

    27.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1.7 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 41.5 FG%, 31.6 3P%, 83.6 FT%, 3 TO

Kobe Bryant’s stats through 7 games in the 2010 NBA Finals:

    Age – 31 years, 11 months

    28.6 PPG, 8 RPG, 3.9 APG, 2.1 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 40.5 FG%, 31.9 3P%, 88.3 FT%, 3.9 T KEEPIN IT REAL!!! YOU STUPID COCKSUCKIN BITCH!!

    • 242LakerFan

And this with AAALLLL those touted extra total minutes Kobe has played than Jordan and the “wear and tear finally showing” that the douches at ESPN like to bring up all the time. He’s got a good 3-4 seasons left at this level. The Three um-Egos in Miami are in for a rude awakening to the awesomeness that is Kobe Bryant.
(some extra ball-washing thrown in there just for laffs)

      • SHOWTIME4EVA

YEAH,AND THAT WAS KOBE AGAINST THE BIG THREE CELTICS W/BROKE FINGER,BAD KNEE AND BACK.AND THAT JORDAN WAS IN GOOD SHAPE RESTED COMING OUT OFF EARLY RETIREMENT AGAINST THE SONICS.DAMN KOBES STATS WOULDA BEEN SKY HIGH AGAINST THOSE SONICS.

    • SHOWTIME4EVA

AND I MIGHT NOTE THAT KOBES STATS HERE ARE THE ONES YOU MAKE FUN OF IN THIS YEARS FINALS WHEN YOU SAY HE WASNT WORTHY OF MVP. SO IF KOBE WAS THE KOBE WE ALL KNOW HE’D BLOW FUCKIN MJ’S ASS AWAY.

Game 4, Payton and Jordan started fresh, guarding each other most of the game. Payton held Jordan to a Final’s career low 23 points on 6/19 shooting, while scoring 21 and dishing 11 assists for himself. And that was the story from there and out. From Games 4-6, Jordan shot just 36.6%, and if you want to count Game 3, where Payton guarded him halfway (And the times he did guard him, Jordan shot less than the whole game) he was still in the 30s shooting percentage wise. KEEPIN IT REAL!!! DUMB FUCK!!

    • Hates laffs outof his ass!

Yup…you mean worst MVP ever = LECHOKE. You call us swallowers??? I am sure you take it up the ass. You’re a cock jockey!!! HAHAHA

    • TOUCHING_MYSELF

Also, learn your history huh? Jordan NEVER played in a game 7… so as far as I’m concerned, KOBE BRYANT ABSOLUTELY OUTPLAYED JORDAN IN A GAME 7!

Plus, you’re just a hater and it’s fine, but all these arguments that you bring up are so disingenuous, the stats that ‘SHOWTIME4EVA’ just pointed out clearly shows that Kobe was a more complete player during latest playoff series respectfully. Yet, you’ll NEVER admit it because you hate Kobe. And that’s fine, then just come in here and say, you hate Kobe then, instead of beatin around your mama’s bush by spittin out all these irrelevant stats!

  • Robert.

Let’s all not forget that Kobe is indeed competing in a league that is ‘filled’ with all time greats, some who will easily make it to top 50 (yes, including LeBra, DWet, Tim Duncan, Shaq, maybe KG etc.). In fact, a few played in MJ’s champion years (e.g., Shaq, during his first few years). MJ had Magic, Bird, Isaiah Thomas the first few years of his basketball career, and Barkley, Robinson, Olajuwon during his champion years (Magic & Bird were either out, or on the downturn of their careers).
    .
Kobe himself would ask us not to compare him to MJ, but we all know that after he retires, some of these things will be brought up. I know for a fact that he will stay in the league until he tops Kareem’s all time scoring mark. He would have to be all busted up to miss out on that one.
    .
As I said before, give it 5 years.

    • SHOWTIME4EVA

good point! Rob I’d say the league is more competitive in Kobes era compared to Mikes.I mean they are putting “super teams” together to try an stop KOBE. that speaks volumes!

    • Robert.

Thanks, Showtime, and I’m also ready for the ‘argument’ that says MJ might have won more rings, had he not taken 2 years off to play baseball.
      .
My argument is that he would have actually won ‘fewer’ rings, and possibly retired earlier.
      .
When he ‘first’ retired, he started a baseball career. Baseball is a game that requires ‘less’ stamina than basketball, and in fact one can be a great player, and be out of shape physically. Case in point, Babe Ruth, who was overweight, technically ‘out of shape’, his ‘playing diet’ was hamburgers right before games, but would hit baseballs out of the park consistently. Manny Ramirez, another example (back in the day).
      .
Yes, there is merit to playing 162 games, but most of those games one is ‘standing around’, waiting in the dugout to get his turn hitting, or on the field just milling about waiting for a ball to get hit in his direction.
      .
If MJ had played basketball through the ‘baseball’ years, chances are he would have burned out earlier, not having the ‘break’ of baseball. And to ADD to that, baseball is a ‘light’ workout. It kept him in ‘reasonable’ shape those 2 years. If he had taken 2 years off without playing at all, it would be different, and it would have been more difficult to return into basketball shape.
      .
I claim that MJ’s 2 year baseball break actually ‘prolonged’ his career. Also, the Rockets weren’t too shabby the two years he was out. Chances are, he might only have 4 or 5 rings, instead of 6, rather than ‘8 rings’ if he played through the baseball years.
      .
So, let’s throw that argument out, and for now say ‘it is what it is’, which is the fact that he has 6 rings, which will soon be reached and passed by Kobe. But rings are only ‘part’ of the great resume of Kobe Bryant. We can talk about that later, but ‘just about’ everyone on this site agrees: right now, Kobe is ‘currently’ the greatest player in the game. After all is said and done – Kobe will be the greatest ever.

      • Showtime4eva

Kobe is G.O.A.T move over mike.. Actually I always thought magic was equal to mike also.

        • KOBE the new logo

That is exactly the order they fall in. I’m from Boston but we all know the greatest are Lakers.Kobe,Shaq,Magic,Kareem,Worthy,Jerry,Wilt so many more..Kobe will defeat Boston again this year.I will be cheering for L.A in TD Garden

  • Euro Trash

Why do people keep responding to laffs? The dude clearly just wants to stir shit up and is looking for attention. Not to mention he just admitted how much he likes sucking dick. Freeze the kid out.

    • Robert.

I know I know. Well, “laffs atu” = “Marwan” (or possibly Marwan’s brother).
      .
The alias should be “Marwan needs $$”. TLN gets a penny per blog (or so). I’m surprised there are not more blog topics on this site.
      .
So, every penny from a comment we make concerning laffs gets sent to TLN’s favorite charity.

      • http://www.twitter.com/TLN24 Marwan Marzina

Wow. Why do you make assumptions like that? You are assuming that I, a big Laker fan and a blogger here at TLN, am “laffs atu”? That is a low level you are stooping to. The chances of me being laffs atu are the same for you being laffs atu. You claim that I’m laffs atu… how do I know that you’re not that person framing me? Besides, I don’t get paid for this position. I’m working free.

        • http://www.twitter.com/TLN24 Marwan Marzina

          Thats understood.
Regarding “laffs atu”, all I know is that he/she is a Laker hater that been on this blog since the start of last season. I don’t really care who he/she is, I don’t wanna get affiliated with them, thats why I just ignore their comments and the rest of TLN should. No need to respond to them, it only fuels their fire.

      • Robert.

Marwan, I only mentioned you as an ‘example’ of who ‘laffs’ could be. But I do think it’s someone affiliated with TLN. Has to be. There is always ‘one blogger’ who appears to stir things up, during periods of time – then, that person disappears and another appears.
        .
For example, Rio Rondo no longer blogs here, and ‘laffs’ appeared right about the time ‘Rondo’ disappeared.
        .
And you mean to say that TLN does NOT get $$ from ads based on traffic? Come on.
        .
My interest is to flesh out bloggers based on language patterns, syntax and usage. Often times aliases attempt to use language completely out of character from the normal blogger. Laffs appears to be out of character for the types of blogs you generally post, which is why I picked your name out of a hat. I know it’s not you, but it has to be someone you might know (or know of?).

        • http://www.twitter.com/TLN24 Marwan Marzina

That was meant as a reply to you, accidently replied to my post. But you get my message.

  • bdmf

    WTF?!?!! fuckeen homo

  • ll13jl

I think we should all just ignore this laffs atu person. He’ll stop when he realizes no one really cares about anything he says.

About Kobe’s salary. He earns every bit of it. We all know he’s a hard worker and he won’t stay put unless he wins the championship.

  • razz

Funny how the haters can only compare Kobe to the greatness that was “MJ”. I mean everytime someone says, “MJ would have never done this or done that”, Laker fans should take it as the highest of compliments…. KB is in the conversation… period!!! No one is comparing him to Magic, Bird, “The Captain” or any other superstar past or present. KB can only be compared to the basketball g-d that is Jordan.. so are they really hating? hahahaha. Or just complimenting on greatness?

    • Robert.

@razz, you got a point! And years in the future, players will be compared with Kobe. But I don’t think that there will be a player like Kobe for a good long time.
      .
The ‘new stock’ of players is generally like LeBron – not really true basketballers, just showmen with some skillz (Shaq started that whole thing – Shaq could have had a few more rings, or been higher up in the basketball food chain, but he chose to be more of an entertainer).
      .
The exception is Kevin Durant, who is a basketball purist, but again, there won’t be anyone like Kobe for a good long time.

      • 242LakerFan

At the rate he’s going, KD could eclipse all the scoring records in the books. He has a great work ethic and the length to be really effective both outside and in, but will he become the all-around great player MJ was and Kobe is? I’d like to see it. I’d also like to see my dream come true and watch him suit up in a certain purple and gold uni someday.

        • TOUCHING_MYSELF

Absolutely agree! It’s easy to root for a guy like him. He just works and plays hard. Doesn’t hurt that his favorite player is Kobe. KD is the player that LO should’ve been! That would be awesome if he is our next franchise player!
