    kobe the assassin

    being clutch =/= gamewinners.

kobe strikes best when there’s around 2-3 minutes left in the game. then kills the opponent.

gamewinners are just luckshots in reality, while kobe’s clutchness can’t be denied.

All this means nothing unless you can win in the Finals. But what it does mean is that people have faith in you. And the statistics don’t show in what type of games they took the last shot. I remember when the USA team had last possession shots when they played against each other. Kobe made his and Lebron missed. What would be a more accurate statistic would be 4th quarter FG% & FT% & turnovers in the last minute. Being clutch can mean keeping your team from having to shoot the last second shot to have to win. Even though Shaq won 3 mvp finals awards he wasn’t clutch in all those categories. Neither is Lebron. So I’d really have to see more than just 1 piece of the pie to make a better judgement of who is more clutch in my opinion.

Please stop bringing these facts that prove that Kobe is not as clutch as we all know he is. We know he is clutch becuase we see it. If he misses a clutch shot it is not his fault. He probably has 3 or 4 guys around him. He shouldn’t get blamed for missing last second shots. Stop hating and quit bringing up these facts. We all know Kobe is better at the end of the game and just because Lebron James has a better shooting percentage at the end of the game 34% to kobe’s 25% We will still believe in kobe. Get outta here boss and stop ruining our hero.

  • daboss1848

eid, it goes w/o saying and im on record with wanting kb to take that decisive shot.

BUT, thats based on perception and selective memory rather than fact!

facts are unarguable, i absolutely agree however what the stats do not take into account is that how many times has kobe brought up back into the game at the end or pulled us up at the end when we are often in a close situation? once those stats are up we can decide whether or not he’s clutch, bcuz those end of game scenarios are also defining of whether a person is clutch or not…till they are up, ill stick to memory and perception, esp when we always witness him doing these things

did anyone else notice how they put kobes stats out there as making 14 out of 56 gamewinners and they said lebron made 17.. but how many did he miss?? im sure hes not 17 for 17… just thought i’d throw that out there..

kobe is an assassin with the game on the line.. he may not make them all but who else can strike fear when they have the ball and game in their hands.. lebron is a great player and hes gonna be the best one day but as of rite now, theres no denying that kobe is the best player in the world…

it only states game winners…but how about game tying shots? kobe’s hit a lot of those!

  • Eidraq

certain stats wont tell everything…clutch only isnt to win games or even tie games..its all that and more..if the lakers are up by a point and kb comes and hits a j with 20 seconds left, thats still clutch..calculate that and then we can talk about stats

This wasn’t about how well he did in the 2nd and 3 rd qtr. It was about his shooting percentage at the end of the game. Sure Kobe is a great shooter and he can make them at the end of the game probably better than anyone, but what this tells us is he probably shoots bad percentage shots at the end of the game and therefore misses alot. Perhaps those tough shots with 2 or 3 guys around should be passed to a Fish or Sasha. Facts don’t lie unless we want to believe the lie.

fU CK Lebron James, KOBE RULES!

  • Coooooooop

We hear and read about this poll every year for the past 6-8 years lol. I think we know by now that Kobe is the best clutch, big shot player in the league right now and for the past few years. NBA players, coaches and GMs say it all the time.

  • MIKEB

HOW COULD YOU NOT CHOOSE BRUCE FREEKIN LEROY, ARE YOU KIDDIN ME IT’Z BRUCE FREEKIN LEROY AS HE IS MY WITNESSANYBODY THAT CHOSE ANYONE ELSE JUST COMMITED SUICIDE!

  • Gary

For instance many of the same people will say that, in the clutch, Kobe is the man you want taking a game winning shot, however the facts show a different story. There are 35 players in the NBA who have taken at least 20 “game winning” shot attempts in the last five year. Of those only Chauncy Billups, Rasheed Wallace, Jermaine O’Neal and Mike Miller have a lower field goal percentage. So perhaps he is the one you’d want taking that shot…if he’s the fifth guy on that team, but then, maybe you’d prefer someone else entirely. In contrast, with six fewer shot attempts (50) James has made three more shots for a total of 17 game winners in the last 5 years, the most of anyone in the NBA. My point here isn’t really to get into a discussion about who’s the better clutch shooter though, it’s to show that simply because something is perceived to be so it isn’t necessarily so.

5th in game winning shots since 03, wait a minute, those stats include Lebrons rookie year. The King is FIRST in game winning shots since joining the league. Wake up laker fans, Kobe is old and Shaqless, Lebron took teams to the finals 2yrs ago, conf champ series last year(took Boston to the last minute of game 7 to win). Kobe took you guys to the finals last year only to get smoked by Boston(down by 40 in one game).

    Nuff said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    • wilzuvsteel

We’ve got the rings Gary. Nuff said.

And as down by 40 ya I’ll give you that but we swept you in the regular season the next year and won the 2009 Championship. Don’t give me this if we were only healthy cop out. We’re going to repeat and do it like a real dynasty should. Since the 80s I’m sure you’ll agree which franchise owns the NBA with the most rings. Can you really take pride in all those Boston finals victories in the 60s? If it wasn’t for lack of talent around the league Bill Russell wouldn’t have won that many. Why would the NBA use Jerry West’s logo to personify the NBA? The Lakers are “clutch” Gary. Nuff said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://57.amklac kobe,bi-curious?

he`s missed 42 and made 14…..why would you let him jack up another miss??????
