Sun Star Cebu: Following LA’s early playoffs knockout, Gino Paolo Peralta (dodgeviper_gambit@yahoo.com) asks: “If they can’t get Kevin Garnett, who do you think will the Lakers try to acquire?”

KG in LA seems like a done deal. He has a house in Malibu, California and he already told his pips that he wants to be a Laker. But if the plot twists, as it often does in Hollywood, I think the Lakers will pursue Jermaine O’Neal, who is rumored to be unhappy in Indiana.

He isn’t the 10-time All-Star that Garnett is, but the 6-foot-11, 260-pound O’Neal comes amazingly close. Like Garnett, the 28-year-old O’Neal has a powerful inside game that best complements Kobe’s perimeter brilliance.

Although the Pacers did not make the playoffs this year, Jermaine, a five-time All-Star, proved that he has a lot of good years left in the tank by norming 19.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game in 69 starts.

Eh, the source doesn’t seem legit. Seems like someone with a loose understanding on the present NBA reality and a deadline.

i agree with theeclectic. how is the kg to la a done deal? because he has a house in malibu? i think hes forgetting that the twolves front office holds the right to trade him when its all said and done.

and he has his stuff reversed by saying that if the nets resign carter they will trade kidd. uh, no. if they resign vince, thats more of a reason to keep kidd. at the deadline last year, had they been able to ship vince, i think they would have taken the laker’s bynum-less deal and start from the beginning.

This has got to be a groundless rumor. Comeon!

Yeah, this is just ridiculous. I wish it were true, but come on. Everything I’ve heard is that KG is saying he’ll stay for one more year. Who really knows. He’s given that franchise too much time. They’re not going to make the playoffs any time soon. They’re in rebuilding mode like we are but are just holding on to him for dear life. It’s up to us to get Jerry back on board and talk some sense into McHale. As for a player to go with Kobe if not Garnett, I vote Pau Gasol all the way. O’ Neal isn’t going to happen. They canned the coach, that means they’re sticking with the players. Even if we could get him that management would demand way too much for O’ Neal. He is not on a KG level. He’s barely even a post up player. His shooting percentage is awful for a big man. Gasol is a legit post player with size and skill down low. He and Kobe would be dynamite together in our system, especially if you keep Walton and Farmar, the only two guys on our team who know how to give a decent entry pass to the post.
